BBC's Peaky Blinders set to 'RETURN for a seventh series with two huge changes as filming starts this summer'
is set to return for another crime-packed series with filming is set to start this summer, according to a new report.
The new series will begin in the 1950s and BBC bosses are pinning hopes on an air date next year to build on the renewed interest expected after the release of the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, according to the Sun.
Series six ended in the 1930s, and the film is set during the Second World War, so an upcoming series would jump forward several years.
The new episodes are expected to pick up in the fifties, a time of violent Teddy Boy gangs and the rise of the infamous Kray twins in London.
A TV insider told the publication: 'The sixth series was meant to be the last and the film was supposed to end the story.
But show boss Steven Knight couldn't resist coming back. He has been hinting for a while that he wanted to do more.
Now the BBC has officially green-lit the project, and pre-production is under way, which will thrill fans.'
Filming is expected to begin in September and will air on BBC One in the UK and then be distributed internationally by Netflix, which is also backing the film.
Peaky Blinders originally ran from 2013 to 2022, following the Shelby family from 1919 through the 1920s and 1930s.
Cillian Murphy, who stars in the new film, could return to the series as Thomas Shelby, but in a 'father figure' role to a younger generation of gangsters – similar to the role played by the late Helen McCrory as Polly Gray.
After the TV series ended, Steven Knight dropped multiple hints that the story would continue.
Speaking about the film, he recently said: 'The world of Peaky will continue.'
MailOnline contacted the BBC for a comment, who have declined to comment.
Teddy Boys were young men who dressed in Edwardian-style clothing and became known for violent clashes in the 1950s.
They often carried flick knives and knuckle dusters, and were seen as a major problem by police at the time.
The Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie, rose to power in London in the late 1950s and 1960s.
They ran organised crime operations, including protection rackets, and became notorious figures in British criminal history.
Their connections with celebrities and their brutal methods made them infamous across the country.

Olivia told the Sun: "Kylie came out and said about her boobs, and I was like: 'I've been talking about my breasts for the past 10 years.' I like the Kardashians, this is not me bashing them, but it's too little, too late for me." She went on to say how she feels the Kardashians should be transparent about all their procedures, because it's 'disingenuous' to pretend their looks aren't down to surgery. She continued: "We know Kylie's breasts are fake. "We knew she had lip fillers when she was selling those lip kits. What about talking about lipo and BBLs?," before saying she believes the Kardashians have had more work done. But although she has had breast augmentation more than once, Olivia revealed that a BBL is the one procedure she would steer clear of. Joking that she has a 'pancake bum', the presenter said: "BBL is the only one I wouldn't do, because the risk is too much. It's one of the surgeries that has the highest revision rate." A BBL, or Brazilian Butt Lift, is a procedure undertaken to change the size of their buttocks. Fat is removed to from other parts of the patient's body, including the belly, hops and back, then injected back into the buttocks. It's one of the surgeries Olivia covers in an episode in the first series of The Price of Perfection. She said of the second season: 'We touched on brand new subjects. There's just so many different avenues that you can cover, and each one is an education in itself.' During the BBL episode, she wants to film a 360 liposuction and BBL procedure, which is performed on a woman named Scarlett. But Olivia feared the worst during the scenes in Turkey, when the crew were told they weren't allowed to record the full treatment after all. Speaking about the decision, Olivia said: "They did change their mind at the absolute final hour, so we just told that story and it's in its truthfulness." She added: "It was awful. A lot goes into planning these shoots for my team and I. But I was thinking, 'this is a massive red flag. Why have they suddenly changed their mind?'" The 75-year-old will bring the curtain down on his remarkable career as he fronts ITV4's coverage of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park on Sunday afternoon, having held that role for the last 16 years. Rider is probably best known however for presenting the iconic BBC sports show Grandstand, while he covered everything from rugby and golf to rowing and motorsports during his time with the broadcaster. He also presented Sportsnight and Sports Personality of the Year, as well as hosting the BBC's coverage of every Olympic Games between 1988 and 2004, before leaving the corporation in 2005. He then joined ITV, where he presented coverage of Formula One, as well as the football and rugby World Cups, before moving on to the British Touring Car Championship. While his remarkable and varied career saw him become one of the most recognisable and popular names in sport broadcasting, however, Rider will make a low-key departure from our screens - but it's one that suits him fine. "God knows, I'll be very disappointed if Andrea Bocelli isn't here,' he joked in an interview with the Telegraph, before adding: 'I'll go quietly, don't worry.' "I've probably outstayed my welcome. I've been hugely lucky with the places that the career has taken me. But it's close to 50 years now, so the cracks are showing!" The Dartford-born presenter's exit from TV comes over 18 months after he revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Rider had gone to get himself tested after one of his friends was diagnosed with the same cancer following a medical check, with his wife urging him to undergo further examinations after his readings came back "a little high" following his first check-up. He then underwent "significant" surgery to prevent the disease from spreading and he admitted during an appearance on BBC Breakfast that he had been "incredibly lucky" as the cancer had been detected early. "I was cutting it a bit fine," Rider said. "They took one look and said, 'We're going to operate in two weeks'. No mucking about. "We did Brands Hatch for ITV on the Sunday and I had the operation on the Thursday, so it fitted into the schedule quite nicely! 'It was one operation, whip it all out, off you go and enjoy the rest of your life, second chance. But I was one of the lucky ones," he added, as he urged people to undergo checks for the disease. "Get yourself tested because once this wretched thing develops, as we've been seeing from Chris Hoy and Eddie Jordan, it just gallops away and there's no control. The chance you have is early testing." Ahead of Rider's retirement, an ITV statement read: "This Sunday, the legendary Steve Rider will present his final show before he retires following a stellar 45 years working for ITV and BBC. "Steve began his career as a reporter at LBC before moving to Anglia Television. As he progressed through the ranks he went on to work on the Olympic Games, World Of Sport and BBC's Grandstand to name a few. He returned to ITV in 2005 and presented our Formula One coverage, the 2006 Football World Cup, the Champions League and the Rugby World Cup in 2011.
