The crime drama, set in the 1920s and 30s, is being planned to air in 2026 - and following the release of a Peaky Blinders feature film later this year. The BBC are hoping to capitalise on a new wave of interest that the movie will bring to the show. The upcoming film, titled The Immortal Man, is set during the Second World War. The new series is likely to move the Birmingham gangsters into the Fifties — an era known for violent mobs of Teddy Boys and the rise of notorious East London villains the Kray twins. A TV insider told us: 'The sixth series of Peaky Blinders was supposed to be the last and the movie was meant to be the final farewell for the story. 'But show boss Steven Knight couldn't resist coming back to the story — his most famous creation — and he's been dropping hints he wanted to return to do more. 'But the fact that it's been officially green-lit by the Beeb and wheels are in motion on pre- production will be a huge thrill to fans of the show, which was a huge hit for the BBC.' Barry Keoghan reveals what acting alongside Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is REALLY like - and why he's given up boxing for The Beatles film

He's become one of the most sought after upcoming actors in the film industry having starred in Dunkirk, The Batman and Top Boy in recent years. Now Barry Keoghan, 32, is gearing up for the release of the new and highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man. The feature film, which is likely to come out with the next year, will see the infamous Shelby family of cut-throat gangsters transition into the Second World War. Described as 'one for the fans' to conclude the much-loved series, Barry is set to feature alongside Dune actress Rebecca Ferguson, Adolescence writer Stephen Graham and of course star of the show Cillian Murphy. And in a recent interview with The Mirror, the Saltburn actor revealed exactly what it takes to live up to Cillian's high standards. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'There is no slacking for him,' Barry said: 'And it's not in an intimidating way. It is in a way that he does not settle for less. He has an athlete's approach to it. Cillian is such a legend. 'He does not say anything, but you feel it.' Recalling the moment he first pulled his Peaky Blinders costume on, Barry told of Cillian's reaction: 'He (Cillian) was more excited to see me in my costume. He was like, "Ah man, look at you."' The Immortal Man isn't all Barry has to look forward to however, with it recently being confirmed that the 32-year-old will star in four upcoming biopics about The Beatles. With the movies planned for release in 2028, Barry will be playing Ringo Starr - who he was so nervous to meet that he couldn't look at the drummer. After being asked by Jimmy Kimmel whether he was able to 'study' Ringo when they met, Barry replied: 'I was.. and when I was talking to him, I couldn't look at him. 'I was nervous, like right now. But he's like, "You can look at me."' Despite his nerves, Barry did stress that Ringo was 'absolutely lovely' and that they sat in the garden 'chatting away.' The Top Boy actor is about to go into 15 months of filming for the movies, but has had to sacrifice one of his true passions for the role - boxing. Barry, who has 'boxed for years', revealed he's been forced to give up his beloved sport because the film's producers 'will kill him' if he breaks his hand and can't play the drums during filming. Despite all of his success in the film industry, the Irish actor suffered a particularly difficult upbringing. He lost his mother when he was just 12 to a heroin addiction and spent the following years in foster care before being brought up by his grand mother. Both Barry and his brother have also struggled with addiction, with the actor admitting he has spent time in rehabilitation. In a poignant interview with Hollywood Authentic, he spoke about an old diary of his mother's which he cherishes. Quoting one entry, he said: 'Well, tonight went okay for me so I hope I have the strength to not touch anything tomorrow.' He added: 'I got to read that at Christmas. I sent a picture to my brother, because he was in rehab over Christmas. I sent him that picture of her last page. I said "Just look at that. You've got a chance now." You can feel the pain in this.' As well as losing his mother at a young age, Barry's uncle passed away after battling a drug addiction, while various other family members including his father also suffered with the vice. Barry said: 'I had an uncle, Alan – he passed away. Heroin. 'He was my nannie's boy. He was very present for us for a good few years. He was my mum's brother. But he passed away. He was only 40, he had an overdose. 'I'm not in denial anymore. I understand that I do have an addiction, and I am an addict. You know, when you accept that, you finally can move on, and learn to work with it. 'My father passed away as a result of similar and I lost my mum to it. I've lost two uncles and a cousin to drugs.'

Barry Keoghan's trick to landing huge roles and sacrifice to play Ringo Starr

Saltburn star Barry Keoghan reveals the demands of the job with perfectionist Peaky Blinders co-star Cillian Murphy – and how he has to protect himself to film the Fab Four biopic You don't slack on the set of the new Peaky Blinders film – by order of Cillian Murphy, according to Irish actor Barry Keoghan. Speaking ahead of his starring role with fellow countryman Cillian in the film - due out this year - that continues the story of Tommy Shelby and his notorious family of cut-throat gangsters in Birmingham, Barry reveals his co-star's impressive work ethic. ‌ He says: 'There is no slacking for him. And it is not in an intimidating way. It is in a way that he does not settle for less. He has an athlete's approach to it. Cillian is such a legend.' ‌ The new Netflix movie, The Immortal Man, is set during the Second World War and also stars Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth, along with returning cast members from the hit BBC crime series. Recalling seeing his co-star in Tommy Shelby's costume at the screen test, Barry, 33, says: 'He was more excited to see me in my costume. He was like, 'Ah man, look at you.'' Clearly channelling his inner Duke menace (his character in the movie) Barry says of Cillian: 'He does not say anything, but you feel it.' And Barry has clearly adopted his co-star's ethos, by giving it all, when it comes to his latest role as Ringo Starr in the new Beatles movie. For he has sacrificed his other great love after acting - boxing - to play the part. Playing drummer Ringo, alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney in the new Sam Mendes biopic, he says: 'I have boxed for years now. But they will kill me if I go and break my hand. Obviously I can't miss the drumming.' Known for his unsettling performances in Saltburn and The Banshees of Inisherin, with Colin Farrell, Barry overcame a tragic childhood to find success as an actor, after his mother died of a heroin overdose when he was just 12. He and his siblings spent many years in foster care, before being brought up by his grandmother. ‌ He has spoken movingly about losing many members of his family to drugs - which became the scourge of his home city of Dublin - saying: 'My father passed away as a result of similar and I lost my mum to it. I've lost two uncles and a cousin to drugs.' Sober, after battling his own drink and drug addiction issues, he says the filming schedule for The Beatles movies will be intense - requiring him to be at the top of his game. He says: 'It is The Beatles now for the next 15 months at least. It is really focused and committed because it is four movies.' While people tell him 'you have made it,' Barry says: 'I will always try and do better. My approach to The Beatles movie is entirely different to anything I have ever done.' ‌ More interested in a career in the ring than on stage when he was younger, Barry only began acting in school plays so he could skip class. By chance one day near the boxing club where he was training, he saw an advert in the window of a shop looking for non-actors – and made the phone call that would change his life. After winning that part in Between The Canals in 2011, he started applying for Irish dance and drama schools – but was rejected. 'I did not get into any. I was lost,' he says. 'I had just finished school. It was like having your confidence knocked out.' ‌ Eventually he found a place which would take him. He explains: 'The Factory was not an acting school – it was more of a place of pure collaboration and had an experimental approach.' It was a role in the series Love/Hate in 2013 about organised crime in Dublin that made him famous in Ireland. Again, he took an experimental approach to his acting, adding: 'I was doing Love/Hate and I went to Galway and rented an Airbnb. I met these lads and I wanted to learn how these lads walked and talked. Then I went back to Dublin.' ‌ Barry's ability to portray complex characters landed him his breakout role in The Killing of a Sacred Deer in 2017 with Nicole Kidman, where he tried to learn as much as he could from the box office star. 'To go from Love/Hate to Scared Deer was insane,' he recalls. 'It was the first time I ever had control (as an actor). Nicole is a genius. 'I had a baby-like approach – the way babies look at you and absorb.' That same year, he gained plaudits for his part in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, working alongside One Direction star Harry Styles. Unlike now, the jobbing actor had to audition for his role as a soldier in the Second World War epic. 'I did an audition tape for Dunkirk and I remember we had to look at tennis balls to take the attention off what I was saying – and I got the part,' he says. ‌ Having won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 2023 for The Banshees, Keoghan no longer needs to audition for his roles – but he doesn't take his fame for granted. 'Your last work is your best work,' he says. 'A director sometimes needs to be shown (an audition tape). It shows you delivering.' He still sent in a tape of himself ahead of The Beatles films, because he wanted to make sure he got the part of Ringo Starr. 'I might sound a dick, but no (I don't have to audition anymore). But like for The Beatles for example, I grabbed a Ringo clip online and I got some friends in New York to shoot it in black and white in this hotel,' he says. 'I gave my version of it, not to mimic Ringo, I wanted to show that I was committed.' It's a trick Barry also employed to get a part in the 2022 Joker movie. 'I saw that they wanted the Riddler, so I made a short Batman film and got this lady in LA to shoot it. I wanted to make it like Stanley Kubrick and I bought a hat and a cane and walked slowly down the corridor,' he says. ‌ It turned out they'd already cast the Riddler, but four months later Barry did get the Joker part, which sadly ended up on the cutting floor. His commitment to acting means he even named the son he had in August 2022 with his former partner, Alyson Sandro, Brando after The Godfather actor. More recently linked to singer Sabrina Carpenter, after he appeared in one of her music videos and she described the collaboration as, 'One of the best she's ever had.' Barry says the secret to his acting success is the way he teases the camera with his piercing blue eyes. ‌ 'I was always told that you treat the camera like you are playing hard to get. You don't have to necessarily say anything. The eyes say everything really,' he says. 'I always look at young actors in their first movie or in their second and they have this unstructured approach to it,' he explains. 'And then they are told they are an actor – and they get lost and lose their instinct. I always look at that for myself. Every approach, I look at a movie like it is my first movie.' The boy from the poor streets of Dublin says he has been incredibly 'blessed' and now wants to inspire kids from his home city to escape and achieve their dreams. 'I want to make this story of where I came from, and get people on board who are not actors,' he says. 'It is encouraging kids to have some sort of faith and belief that no matter where you come from… it shouldn't hold you back.'

BBC Peaky Blinders new series will feature major difference from previous seasons

The show's creator Steven Knight has confirmed that plans are underway for the new series which will be shot in Birmingham. Peaky Blinders is to return for yet another series and this time it will be set in the 1950s. The show's creator, Steven Knight, has confirmed that plans are underway for the new series which will be shot in Birmingham. The long-running BBC TV drama, which wrapped in 2022, will follow the Peaky Blinders movie spin-off called The Immortal Man and Cillian Murphy is likely to return as Tommy Shelby alongside a wider cast of characters. Knight has now officially confirmed that the series is happening, and will remain in the central location of Birmingham. 'There is a new series and what's really great for Birmingham is that, like the film, it will be shot here,' he said. ‌ 'Birmingham is the home of the Peaky Blinders – so it's only right that the next chapter of their story is filmed here in the city where it all began,' added West Midlands mayor Richard Parker. 'I've been working closely with Steven Knight to help make that happen and I'm delighted we're on track to bring this iconic production back to Brum.' As previously reported, Cillian Murphy could return as Tommy Shelby, and the series will focus on a new generation of peaky blinders. ‌ Knight previously teased the future show, having suggested it would 'focus on the new generation in a series that will take place after the Second World War'. It comes after the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, which will see Murphy return as Shelby with Knight writing and Tom Harper directing. Teasing the film earlier this year, Knight told BBC Breakfast: 'I would say this wouldn't I, but it's fantastic. I think we've got the best British actors all in one place. The stuff that I'm watching, the rushes, the assemblies, no one will be disappointed. 'It's a quite incredible thing. It's a very fitting way to end this part of the story.' The Immortal Man will be set around World War II, and is also due to feature returning stars Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck and Stephen Graham as well as new cast additions such as Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Tim Roth. However, troubled star Paul Anderson, who played Arthur Shelby has cast doubt on whether he will have much of a role to play in the film or in the upcoming series. His role is in doubt due to him having been addicted to crack cocaine. He claims he is prohibited to speak about the film after signing an NDA.
