Beach cricket tournament TODAY cancelled due to bad weather forecast
A BEACH cricket tournament planned to be held on Appley Beach in Ryde today (Tuesday) has been cancelled amid bad weather forecast.
The Isle of Wight Cricket Board's inaugural event will now be rescheduled on a date yet to be fixed.
Eight teams, including one from the mainland, were set to compete in the tournament, which is open to players aged 16 and over.

Event organiser, Alex Barton, of the Isle of Wight Cricket Board, was disappointed to have to make the late decision.
'After much consideration, we have made the decision to postpone the beach cricket tournament," she said.
"With rain and strong wind forecast throughout the day, we have no choice but to try to find an alternative date for the event, which we will publish as soon as possible.
"We are looking forward to some cricket on the beach, in the sunshine, very soon!'

Scattered thunderstorms to mix with heat as temperatures up to 34C forecast
Scattered thunderstorms are set to mix with continued high temperatures on Saturday with up to 34C possible in some areas. A yellow thunderstorm weather warning covering all of northern England, from Nottingham up to above Newcastle, will come into force from 3pm and last until 4am on Sunday. The Met Office warned the most intense storms could produce 'frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds', along with a chance of flooding. Large crowds are expected to gather at Stonehenge for the annual summer solstice early on Saturday morning, with mild temperatures in the high teens expected for those observing the spectacle. Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: 'There are scattered thunderstorms coming through. 'Some of the rain could be quite intense, and frequent lightning, hail, gusty winds and some heavy downpours, which we haven't seen for a while. It warns 'significant impacts are likely' across health and social care services because of high temperatures, including a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions. During 2022's heatwave, temperatures rose past 40C, leading to 320 people being treated in hospital. 'While the air may feel hot, water temperatures often remain dangerously cold, which can lead to cold-water shock, even in summer.'

Potential record deal puts Elliott's name back in the headlines as Albion are linked

The champions' move for Florian Wirtz will set them back an initial £100 million. That will become a British record £116 million if various clauses are met. Advertisement It also appears to affect Elliott's potential to play significant minutes for the Reds. Albion were believed to be interested in Elliott during the January transfer window and probably before that. That might at least partly explain why The Sun report him to be of interest to the Seagulls in the current window. He would command a sizeable fee and comes with some uncertainty over what he can produce in the Premier League on a consistent basis. But Elliott, who is currently with England under-21s at the Euros, has shown plenty of promise. He scored for Liverpool at the Amex towards the end of the season. Advertisement There is no suggestion that Albion have bid for Elliott but there is a theory the presence of his former Anfield mentor James Milner could help persuade the 22-year-old to move. Albion have an array of options in attacking midfield areas but plenty of outward activity is expected during the summer transfer window.
