'Didn't violate any bail condition': SC upholds Delhi HC order on man booked under UAPA for 'sympathising' with ISIS
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Delhi high court order granting bail to a man booked under the stringent anti-terror UAPA law for allegedly sympathising with the terrorist group ISIS.

A bench of justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh said the accused Ammar Abdul Rahiman did not violate any of the bail conditions.
No instances were brought on record to show Rahiman violated the bail conditions, it added.
The bench also noted the accused was arrested on August 4, 2021, and the trial was yet to conclude.
"Prosecution proposes to examine more than 160 witnesses, out of whom 44 have been examined till now.
Conclusion of the trial will take some reasonable time. Respondent was released on bail after spending about three years in custody as an undertrial," news agency PTI quoted the bench as saying.
The judges observed the accused regularly appeared in the trial court and did not attempt to obstruct the ongoing trial.
"We see no reason to cancel the bail granted to the respondent," their order read.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), accepted Rahiman cooperated in the investigation and regularly appeared in the trial court.
Bhati, however, objected to his plea to apply for the passport to travel abroad till the trial was pending.
The bench restrained the accused from foreign travel while the trial is pending, and without their permission.
On May 6 last year, the Delhi high court granted bail to Rahiman. A high court bench observed the material on record did not suggest commission of offences under Section 38 (offence relating to membership of a terrorist organisation) or 39 (offence relating to support given to a terrorist organisation) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA alleged Rahiman was "highly radicalised" towards ISIS and allegedly entered into criminal conspiracy with known and unknown ISIS members for undertaking "Hijrah" (religious migration) to Jammu and Kashmir and other ISIS-controlled territory to join the group for "establishment of Caliphate" and to carry out its activities in India.

Youth held under POCSO for impregnating minor girl
Just days after delivering a child and throwing the baby near a bush at the Tiruttani Government Hospital premises, a minor appeared before the All Women Police, Tiruttani on Saturday, claimed ownership of the child and registered a complaint against a 24-year-old youth who had raped her. The police arrested the youth and remanded him to judicial custody. Police sources said on June 11, the public heard the cries of a newborn baby lying near a bush. Police registered a case against him under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO)Act and he was remanded to judicial custody.

Teen held with ganja worth Rs 29k in Bhadravati
Chandrapur: In a late-night operation, Bhadravati police arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly possessing nearly 1.5 kg of ganja which he was ferrying on a motorcycle. The accused, identified as Kshitij Sanjay Junghare, a resident of Bhangaram Ward in Bhadravati, was caught near Chanda gate No. 3, Sumthana Chowk, around 1am on Saturday. The action was taken following a tip-off received by sub-inspector Mohan Dongarle and his team during routine patrolling in the area. According to police sources, the youth was transporting the contraband from Chandrapur on a bike with a shoulder bag. On intercepting him and searching the bag in the presence of witnesses, police recovered a substance suspected to be ganja. Weighing experts confirmed the quantity to be 1.480 kg, valued at Rs 29,080. The motorcycle, worth Rs 60,100, was also seized, taking the total value of the seized material to Rs 89,180. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is under way.

Bengaluru's auto drivers fined for fleecing, other violations
Bengaluru: Close on the heels of the ban on bike-taxi services, Bengalureans complained about rising incidents of "autocracy" with several incidents of autorickshaw drivers fleecing the commuters with faulty meters. Cracking the whip on such errant drivers, Bengaluru Traffic Police booked over 1,000 cases Saturday and collected Rs 4.9 lakh in fine from autorickshaws and other traffic violators in the west division. Based on the commuters' ordeal, TOI published a report on traffic violations in its June 20 edition. During the day-long drive against errant autorickshaw drivers in and around Majestic, Ananda Rao Circle, KSR Railway Station, MG Road, Church Street, Cubbon Park and surrounding areas, 180 cases were booked under various sections of the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act and fine worth Rs 89,700 was collected. The highest number of cases (84) was booked against auto drivers not wearing the khaki uniform, resulting in a fine of Rs 42,000. Similarly, 52 cases were booked against those demanding excess fare and Rs 21,600 was collected in fine. As many as 44 auto drivers were booked for refusing to go for hire and a fine worth Rs 21,600 was collected, according to BTP officials.
