AGTF recovers second ak47 rifle; probes cross-border smuggling by Rohit Godara gang
Jaipur: The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the state police Wednesday recovered a second AK-47 rifle in the last week from a known offender in Churu. The weapon was seized from Jeetu Jodi, alias Jitendra Singh, a history-sheeter listed at Churu's Kotwali police station, as part of an operation named "Operation Queen".
Jeetu Jodi was arrested by AGTF on June 6. During interrogation, he revealed the presence of an AK-47, following which the weapon was recovered.
Earlier, AGTF recovered another AK-47 that was delivered to Jeetu Chambal by Jeetu Jodi through one Shivraj Singh. Jeetu Chambal is the brother of notorious dacoit Ramdutt Thakur, alias Sonu Chambal. Both rifles are believed to have been supplied by gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara, who allegedly smuggled them into Rajasthan through cross-border routes.
AGTF arrested Jeetu Chambal along with his accomplice on June 5 and recovered an AK-47 from him.
AGTF is now interrogating several criminals connected to the case. ADG Dinesh MN said, so far four people were arrested: Jeetu Chambal and Tejpal Thakur from Dholpur, Shivraj Singh from Jaipur, and Jeetu Jodi from Churu. Officials said Jodi had knowledge of the murder plans of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi but was not actively involved.
AGTF ADSP Siddhant Sharma said that Ramdutt Thakur, alias Sonu Chambal, set up a private firing range in the ravines of Dholpur, where he trained hitmen from various states. Thakur, who previously exchanged fire with police in Dholpur before fleeing, was later arrested by Haryana Police.
AGTF also revealed that the gang used the nickname "Rani" for the AK-47s to avoid raising suspicion during transport or communication. Code phrases like "Rani has arrived" or "Rani needs to be brought" were commonly used. This codename inspired AGTF to name their operation "Operation Queen".

J&K: ACB arrests tehsildar for taking Rs 1 lakh as bribe for nod to cut trees
The Anti-Corruption Bureau of J&K Saturday said it has arrested a tehsildar for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh as bribe from a Handwara resident for permission to fell walnut trees. An ACB statement said the complainant accused Ghulam Rasool Bhat, tehsildar, Kralgund, of taking Rs 50,000 as advance and still not issuing the permission for cutting the trees. The complainant said he told the revenue official that he could not afford to pay the money, but the tehsildar insisted on full payment. Pointing out that a discreet inquiry was initiated into the matter, the statement said after verification of facts, a case was registered against the tehsildar and his tout Rafi Ahmad Lone. An ACB team caught two men and during a search of the tehsildar's premises, recovered Rs 50,000 allegedly paid by the complainant, besides another bundle of Rs 79,000. The accused were presented before a court which remanded them in police custody for seven days, the agency said. In another case, the ACB arrested a police head constable, Roshan Din, who was on the run after being spotted taking the bribe. Din had demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant for deleting his name from a list of accused persons in an FIR despite the fact that the former had provided CCTV footage and attendance at the factory on the date of occurrence to prove his innocence, said the agency. However, while accepting the bribe from the complainant, Din sensed the presence of ACB officials on the spot and fled, the agency said, adding he threw the money in the bushes on the national highway near Palli. The money was recovered by independent witnesses and seized by officials, the agency said. Din was posted at Kathua police station, said the ACB.

Security forces pivot to bet on FOBs & mini-ops to breach Bastar in monsoon
Raipur: The dense, rain-soaked forests of Bastar, once a safe haven for Naxal insurgents during the monsoon, are no longer unmarked by the boots of security forces, say officials. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This year, in a strategic pivot, anti-Naxal operations have gone into Monsoon Mode, with Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), drone surveillance, and night-vision technology powering an unrelenting campaign against Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). Traditionally, the monsoon offered natural cover to Maoist groups, who capitalized on treacherous terrain and flooded streams to avoid detection. But in the past couple of years, things have changed, say officials. CRPF's elite CoBRA units, DRG (District Reserve Guard), and the STF (Special Task Force) are now better equipped, both tactically and technologically and intel-wise, to navigate the jungle even during the harshest spells. "We're not letting up," said Bastar IG P Sundarraj, asserting that rainfall won't hinder operations. "Monsoon is no longer a lull season, it's now a high-opportunity window for us." Govt's broader LWE eradication timeline aims to dismantle the Naxal presence by March 2026. The monsoon, earlier considered an obstacle, is now a deliberate part of the strategy. Security forces have marked success in recent joint operations in Indravati National Park and the Bijapur-Narayanpur axis, where multiple senior Maoist leaders were neutralized in early June. Maoists traditionally rely on low-intensity guerrilla warfare, exploiting the terrain to strike and retreat. But with intelligence-based tracking, surveillance grids, and constant FOB patrols, their movements are increasingly being monitored and disrupted. Officials say night-vision-enabled reconnaissance and drone surveillance have offered real-time intelligence in zero-visibility conditions during an operation of more than a day. And lastly, mini-surgical operations, swift, localized strikes based on precision inputs rather than large battalion movements have allowed forces to make in-roads. Each base is equipped with logistics, medical support, and supply chains, ensuring sustained deployment even in areas cut off by swollen rivers or landslides. "The psychological pressure is now reversed," a senior CRPF officer revealed. "Earlier, we avoided deep jungles in the rains. Now it's the Naxals who must stay on the run." Recently, speaking to the press, CM Sai affirmed full state support for the intensified operations. "This is a fight we must win, and every season is a battlefront. Our forces are empowered, and the state is with them, come rain or storm," he said. What once was an off-season has become an opportunity. With year-round readiness and advanced technology, Operation Monsoon is redefining counterinsurgency in Bastar, an officer said. The message is loud and clear, "The war against Naxalism in Bastar no longer takes a weather break." Speaking to TOI, Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj said, "In the last couple of operational seasons, we have witnessed some very encouraging outcomes in our ongoing operations against Left-Wing Extremist (LWE) elements across the Bastar Range. " "Thanks to the consistent efforts of our security forces, supported by accurate intelligence inputs and the strong cooperation of local communities, we've been able to neutralize several senior hardcore Maoist cadres including CPI Maoist General Secretary Basavaraju, recover weapons and ammunition, and dismantle key Maoist hideouts. These achievements are the result of improved coordination between the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and the civil administration," he said. As we enter into the 2025 monsoon season, which often poses operational challenges, we are fully geared up to continue the momentum. AGTF nabs ex-police commando who joined Anandpal, Bishnoi gangs
Jaipur: State police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Saturday arrested a former Rajasthan police commando who joined ranks of notorious gangsters Anandpal and Lawrence Bishnoi and was wanted in multiple criminal cases across the state, including a firing at a hotel in Churu district last year. Churu police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture. Praveen Singh Jodi, 43, hails from Jodi village in Bhaleri police station area of Churu district. He joined the police force in 2001 as a constable and later served in the police commando unit in Jhalawar. However, his links with gangsters grew over time. He was found to be associated with shooter Ankit Bhadu from the Lawrence gang and was also involved with the Anandpal gang. These associations led to his dismissal from service on May 22, 2019. Following his dismissal, Praveen became an active player in the state's gang network. According to police, he supplied contact numbers of local businessmen to key members of Anandpal and Lawrence gangs, including to Rohit Godara and Virendra, who then used this information to extort money. A special team arrested him there. He has now been handed over to Kotwali police station in Churu. Police officials said Praveen was linked to the firing incident at Suncity Hotel in Churu on Aug 17 last year. In that case, two men on a bike fired shots at the hotel. While no one was injured, the attackers managed to flee. Hotel employee Manjat Ali lodged an FIR against unknown persons, prompting Churu police to announce a cash reward for Praveen's arrest. Earlier, AGTF had arrested another member of the same gang network, Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu Jodi, who is from the same village. During the raid, an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large cache of ammunition were seized from Jeetu's farmland.
