Families of fallen FRU officers to receive up to RM269,700
TELUK INTAN: The families of the nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who were killed in a crash along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam here this morning will receive financial aid between RM58,000 and RM269,700.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the aid will be channelled as soon as possible through various welfare funds as well as insurance compensation, and includes RM1,200 from the Welfare Fund, RM25,000 from the Warriors and National Defence Fund and RM20,000 from the PDRM work disaster ex gratia scheme.
'They will also receive financial donations of RM11,000 from the Perak contingent police headquarters and those who contributed to the PDRM cooperative will receive RM1,500 in death benefits and insurance compensation between RM36,000 and RM211,000 according to their contributions,' he said during a media conference at the Hilir Perak district police headquarters here today.
He also said that those who sustained injuries would receive financial aid and compensation subject to evaluations by medical experts.
He said that the aid reflected PDRM's continued commitment in ensuring the welfare of their personnel especially during disasters that occur in the line of duty.
Ayob Khan also informed that eight of the nine FRU personnel killed will be buried in Perak, including in Taiping, Kampar and Ipoh, and the remaining one will be buried in Kulim, Kedah.
'Three doctors are involved in conducting the autopsies, which are expected to be completed by 11 pm,' he said, adding that the bodies will be taken to the Hilir Perak district police headquarters' surau for prayers before being taken to the Sungai Senam FRU Unit 5 Base, Ipoh for final respects.
A full report on the crash is expected to be completed imminently after information from several other agencies, including Pusat Pemeriksaan Kenderaan Berkomputer (Puspakom), has been gathered, he added.
Meanwhile, a remand order for the lorry driver involved in the crash will be obtained tomorrow at the Teluk Intan Court, he shared.
'The suspect has six prior criminal records, four involving theft, one rape and one drug offence, all of which he has been convicted and sentenced for,' he said.

SERDANG: District police have solved a house break-in and a series of snatch thefts with the arrest of seven suspects in two separate cases. In the first case, two men with criminal records were detained over a burglary in Bandar Putra Permai here. Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the victim left his home at about 7am on June 7. "When he returned at 4pm the next day, he discovered his house had been broken into. In the second case, ACP Farid said a snatch theft gang consisting of three men and two women, believed to be responsible for 39 cases in Selangor, was busted in an operation codenamed Ops Sentap Jay. "The suspects aged 20 to 30 were detained on June 19. "We believe they are responsible for cases in Serdang, Kajang and Subang Jaya," he said. Several items were seized, including a motorcycle, helmets, a laptop, a pawn shop receipt and jewellery, he added.

Kelantan sees sharp drop in smuggled firearms cases after border crackdown
KOTA BARU: The number of firearm smuggling cases into Kelantan from a neighbouring country has seen a significant decline, dropping more than sixfold following intensified border enforcement since December last year. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said this marked a positive outcome from joint operations by the police and General Operations Force, particularly in districts close to the border. He said police have seized nine firearms, including seven imitation weapons, in several operations across the state since the beginning of this year. In comparison, police seized 64 imitation firearms and 16 genuine ones throughout last year. "Since the intensified enforcement, we have seen a significant drop in firearms seizures. "This indicates that our current border control measures are effective, and those involved in smuggling activities are no longer bold enough to bring illegal firearms into Kelantan," he said. Mohd Yusoff said most of the seizures this year took place in Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang. "Most of the weapons were seized from those involved in drug-related and other criminal activities," he said. He believed that firearms smuggled from the neighbouring country were once popular among locals due to their easy availability and significantly lower prices. It is understood that genuine firearms can be obtained from across the border at a much cheaper price compared to the local black market, where such weapons are sold for between RM3,000 and RM5,000 each. As for imitation firearms, prices in Malaysia typically range between RM200 and RM500 per unit, while in the neighbouring country, they can be bought for as low as RM50 to RM100 each.

Investment scam ring busted, 10 nabbed in Puchong raid
SERDANG: An investment scam syndicate has been busted in a raid on a call centre in Bandar Puteri Puchong. A total of 10 suspects, seven men and three women, were arrested during the operation. Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the raid was conducted at about 2.30pm on Friday (June 20). "We detained the suspects, aged between 30 and 40, including the ringleader. "So far, four victims have come forward with almost RM400,000 in losses," he told a press conference at Serdang district police headquarters on Monday (June 23). Various items worth RM45,000 were seized, including six laptops, 14 mobile phones, a modem and three monitors, he added. "The syndicate used online platforms to mimic foreign exchange schemes to dupe victims. "We believe they have been operating for about six months," he said. ACP Farid said the syndicate targeted mostly locals. "However, there are victims from Indonesia and India. "The syndicate would promise high returns within a short time to entice its targets," he said. He advised anyone planning to invest in a scheme to verify its authenticity with the Securities Commission first. "It is unfortunate that some people were duped by the promise of huge returns within a short time (and) failed to check the legitimacy of the scheme," he said. The suspects were remanded for one day Saturday (June 21) but were rearrested by Ampang Jaya police for a similar scheme in that district, he added. COMP COURTS CRIME
