Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for most of Western Pennsylvania
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of our viewing area until 10 p.m.
Heavy rainfall moving through the area could cause flash flooding. Severe storms could produce damaging winds and hail, and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Make sure to stay weather-aware.
Dry weather returns with sunshine by the middle part of the week just in time for the start of the US Open at Oakmont! More wet weather will likely return late Friday night and into the weekend.

Fire danger grows as heat continues across Colorado, cooler weather ahead
The first official weekend of summer is here, and it's been a hot one. Denver tied the record high of 99° on Friday and came just one degree shy of tying another record on Saturday. Sunday will bring more of the same, with high temperatures climbing into the low to mid-90s across much of the eastern plains. In the high country, highs will range from the 70s to 80s. The big change on Sunday is an increase in fire weather concerns. CBS Fire weather conditions will expand eastward to include much of the I-25 corridor. Elevated fire danger is expected, with wind gusts reaching 30 to 45 mph—a key ingredient for rapid fire growth. Relief from the heat is on the way. A cold front arrives Sunday night into Monday, bringing temperatures down into the upper 70s and low 80s to start the work week. Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms also return.

Tracking extreme heat through Monday
The National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory through Monday for nearly all of Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Heat indices are expected to surpass the 100s on Sunday and Monday. With the heat advisory continuing through Saturday evening, a break in the heat is not expected until midweek. Overnight temperatures will dip only into the upper 70s and low 80s, making for a very warm evening. Over the past few hours, we have experienced very gusty conditions, with winds reaching up to 25-30 mph. These strong southerly winds will continue overnight, and gusts could climb into the 30s. These winds will help keep temperatures warm into Sunday morning. Sunday will be similar to today, with temperatures and heat indices climbing quickly. Highs are expected to reach the upper 90s, with the heat index nearing 105. Winds will remain gusty, with gusts near 30-35 mph. We will continue to remain dry on Sunday, with plenty of sunshine to help warm temperatures. Monday will mark the start of a more active weather pattern. A marginal risk (level 1 of 5). A low-pressure system in Kansas is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms along a frontal boundary late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Behind the Tuesday system, rain and storm chances will likely linger throughout most of the week, with temperatures remaining in the 90s.

On day after solstice, summer showed its good side
It was the first day after the solstice but that did not require all of the scorch, sizzle and swelter of summer to be immediately and mercilessly visited upon Washington on Saturday, and they weren't. The day's official high temperature failed even to touch 90 degrees. It was however, close, at 89.
