The meeting recommended strengthening tests to detect antibiotic residues in milk, meat and fish. Comprehensive measures were also suggested to reduce the levels of antibiotics in cattle and poultry feed.As part of making all hospitals in Kerala antibiotic-smart, a colour-coding system will be introduced. All hospitals must implement this within three months, she added. Guidelines for local bodies as part of antibiotic literacy will also be released and local self-govt institutions will be colour-coded accordingly. Based on this colour code, micro-plans should be developed to make all local self-govt institutions antibiotic-smart.Antibiotics must be dispensed only in blue covers for identification and all hospitals, medical stores and pharmacies must implement this, she said. Steps have been taken to convert more hospitals into antibiotic-smart hospitals. With the help of organizations like IMA, API, IAP and CIDS, efforts will be intensified in the private sector. Health workers visited over 4,00,000 homes to raise awareness. The goal is to make the state antibiotic literate by Dec this year.For the first time in the country, George directed other districts to gradually release district-level antibiograms based on the hub-and-spoke model introduced by Ernakulam district. The nPROUD (new Programme on Removal of Unused Drugs) initiative implemented by state drugs control department in Kozhikode for the scientific collection and processing of expired and unused medicines will be expanded statewide. Kerala is also the only state conducting AMR surveillance at both secondary and primary levels.

Health Minister Veena George has said that local self-governing bodies achieving Sampoorna Yoga (complete yoga integration) will receive special recognition for their efforts. This move, she said, is intended to inspire other local bodies and encourage widespread adoption of yoga practices at the grassroots level. The Minister was inaugurating the State-level International Day of Yoga celebrations online, held in Thrissur, on Saturday. The State aims to transform all panchayats, municipalities, and Corporations into fully yoga-integrated zones, with the ultimate goal of establishing Kerala as a Sampoorna Yoga State. She noted that Kerala has accorded special importance to yoga and is implementing measures to integrate it into daily life. 'As part of this effort, over 10,000 yoga clubs have already been set up across the State, and steps are under way to establish at least one yoga club in every panchayat. Provisions have also been made to train and promote yoga through AYUSH centres and wellness programmes, including yoga, have been launched in collaboration with people's health centres and community health clubs, she said. Lifestyle diseases Kerala, with the highest life expectancy in the country and among the lowest maternal and infant mortality rates, leads in health indicators. However, lifestyle diseases and rising morbidity rates remain significant challenges. The State has taken up multiple initiatives to tackle these issues, and yoga is seen as a vital tool in improving both physical and mental health, the Minister noted. 'Yoga is not just a practice but a way of life and culture and everyone should be part of it,' said the Minister. Thrissur District Collector Arjun Pandian presided over the function. Various AYUSH yoga clubs staged mass yoga demonstration. Reni M.K., yoga naturopathy medical officer, Rama Varma District Ayurveda Hospital, Thrissur, delivered yoga day message. Laurel for start-up for proposal on fighting AMR
Vividew Innovations Private Limited, a start-up incubated at the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (BIIC) of Mahatma Gandhi University, has earned national recognition for its approach to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The company's proposal was selected by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) in the AMR challenge as one of nine solutions from nearly 200 submissions across India. Vividew's solution focusses on eliminating antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria from hospital wastewater. It employs an integrated treatment process combining advanced oxidation, membrane filtration, biological treatment, and thermal processing. The system is noted for being cost-effective, scalable and well-suited for implementation in healthcare environments.

They will be only available in government hospitals. Gurugram: 5 treatments under Ayushman scheme no longer available in pvt hospitals They are cataract surgery, hysterectomy (uterus operation), laparoscopic gall bladder surgery, treatment for vomiting and diarrhoea-related illnesses, and pulmonary disease. 'The government should have consulted stakeholders before implementing such a major decision. While public health must always be the top priority, the reality is that many government hospitals lack the infrastructure to provide some of these treatments in Haryana. This could lead to difficulties for patients,' said Dr Mahaveer Jain, state president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The Gurugram Civil Hospital has a dedicated Ayushman Centre to support patients under the scheme. At present, hospital authorities say there is no excessive burden. However, patient flow is likely to rise due to the withdrawal of services from private hospitals. 'Currently, there is no pressure on the hospital, but if the patient load increases due to the directive, we will expand facilities accordingly,' said Dr Lokveer, principal medical officer of the Civil Hospital.
