Apple TV+ returns to the 1870s in 'The Buccaneers' Season 2 trailer

May 22 (UPI) -- Apple TV+ released a trailer for the upcoming second season of The Buccaneers, continuing the story of a group of young American women living in London in the 1870s.
The trailer, out Thursday, features Chappell Roan's "Good Luck Babe" playing over scenes of returning stars Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Josie Totah, Imogen Waterhouse, Mia Threapleton and Christina Hendricks.
The trailer features the debut of Season 2 newcomer Leighton Meester.
The new season also stars Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan, Barney Fishwick, Amelia Bullmore, Fenella Woolgar, Greg Wise, Jacob Ifan, Grace Ambrose and Maria Almeida.
"All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births and deaths ... themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is," Apple TV+ said in a news release. "Last time we got a taste of England. This time we're in for a veritable feast."
The Buccaneers Season 2 debuts June 18.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature, which will shoot in England this summer and has a July 31, 2026, release date. Much of the movie remains shrouded in mystery. Movie rumor websites have listed upwards of a dozen possible villains, from crime bosses to alien symbiotes, who could appear in the feature, as well as a couple of different versions of the Hulk. The only thing clear at this stage is that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their roles as MJ and best friend Ned, although how substantial those roles will be remains unclear. And Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is the big new addition so far. The story takes place after the events of the previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the entire world knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man and then had that knowledge erased. Having Bernthal as the Punisher seems to point to a slightly more grounded angle on the story as the character hails from the gritty street corner of Marvel's universe and, in the comics at least, uses fists, knives and guns to tussle with bad guys, rather than spells or fancy tech. But hey, having him square off against a rampaging Hulk could be fun, too. Bernthal first showed up as vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series, then starred in his own series that ran for two seasons. He recently returned for a few episodes in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Marvel is betting on more Punisher and Bernthal in the months and years to come. The character is set to return for season two of Born Again and Marvel is bringing Bernthal back for a Punisher stand-alone feature for Disney+. Bernthal is co-writing the latter. Curiously, one nonnegotiable he had for his return to Daredevil was maintaining the character's violent, R-rated feel. It will be interesting to see how that translates into the more kid-friendly tone of the Spider-Man movies. Bernthal and Holland have a charmed history together when it comes to Marvel. The duo were working on the 2017 feature Pilgrimage when prepping to audition for their Marvel roles. The actors helped each other with their audition tapes. This year, Bernthal's big-screen output has included starring opposite Ben Affleck in The Accountant 2 for Amazon and appearing in the Rami Malek thriller The Amateur for 20th Century Fox. Bernthal is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer. 'Ted Lasso' Fan Favorite Brett Goldstein Calls Season 4 Announcement a ‘Relief'
Brett Goldstein has emerged as one of the many beloved characters in the Apple TV+ hit series Ted Lasso. He portrays the popular player-turned-coach Roy Kent, who has a gritty personality and doesn't love small talk. It seems Goldstein's disinterest in small talk during the show may translate to real life in some ways, specifically when it comes to being asked questions about Ted Lasso's future From the sound of it, Goldstein didn't exactly love fielding the constant questions on the topic of whether Ted Lasso would even return for a Season 4, before the news was officially revealed. He made that much known during a recent interview with Variety. When the topic of Goldstein no longer having to address the questions about the show's future when they arose, it sounds like they were tougher on him than the current queries he gets. "That is such a relief," Goldstein said of no longer having to answer questions about the show's future. Goldstein, who plays Louis on the hit show Shrinking, is also an executive producer and writer for the show. While he's in the same boat as the rest of the Ted Lasso cast, having to remain tight-lipped on Season 4, he did call it "exciting" to be back with the rest of the show's actors. "Obviously, I can't tell you a single thing about it, of course, but we're working on it, and it's good," he says. "It's exciting to have everyone back together." One thing fans can rejoice in is the fact that they'll be treated to more of Roy Kent in the upcoming season. Stretching into summer: Yoga workouts mark solstice in longest day

At Times Square in New York, thousands of people enjoyed the extra sunshine in all-day yoga classes. The summer solstice officially begins at 10:42 p.m. The amount of daylight depends on the location. And the sun's intensity also varies. Long day? The Earth might have something to do with it. Friday, June 20 marks the summer solstice-the longest stretch of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere. Pack sunscreen and thank Earth's axial tilt for the extra hours. Learn more: NASA (@NASA) June 20, 2025 Simultaneously, those in the Southern Hemisphere will mark the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of 2025 below the equator. That is around 7 hours and 40 minutes of daylight. The sun appears higher or lower in the sky depending on the season. In New York City, daylight was 15 hours and 6 minutes with sunrise at 5:24 a.m. and sunset at 8:30 p.m. Yoga participants enjoyed a sunny day in Manhattan with a high temperature of 85 degrees, no precipitation and 38% humidity. Free yoga classes were open to experienced yogis and first-timers on the Broadway pedestrian plazas. Classes for 23rd Mind over Madness Yoga ran from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The only animals allowed were service dogs. People could also participate in a livestream. It was sponsored by Times Square Alliance, which is a nonprofit organization that "works to improve and promote Times Square so that it retains the creativity, energy and edge that have made it an international icon for over 100 years," according to its website. Events have been celebrated by cultures around the world for thousands of years. Stonehenge and the Mayan Chichen Itza Pyramid were purposely built to align with these seasonal markers. Some Native American tribes in the plains and the Rocky Mountains perform a Sun Dance to celebrate the summer solstice. In Fairbanks, Alaska, a baseball game called the "Midnight Sun Game" traditionally starts at 10:30 p.m. The summer solstice occurs because the Earth has a 23.5-degree tilt. So, the planet is pointed toward the sun half of the year and the most away the other half. In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice occurs when the sun reaches its northernmost point relative to Earth's celestial equator. During the summer solstice, the sun shines directly on the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere. That means if you stand there, you'll have no shadow at noon because the sun will be directly overhead. The winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is 10:02 a.m. The winter solstice takes place when the sun is in its southernmost position relative to the celestial equator. The word solstice is derived from the Latin word solstitium, which translates to "sun stands still."
