Bad Monkey EP Bill Lawrence Offers Season 2 Update, Confirms ‘Razor Girl' Adaptation On Hold in Favor of New Story With Same Cast

Eight months after Bad Monkey's Season 1 finale, and six months after the Vince Vaughn-led detective comedy was renewed at Apple TV+, executive producer Bill Lawrence tells TVLine that writing on Season 2 is nearly complete, and cameras will officially start rolling this fall. 'They're almost done in the writers' room,' the EP says. 'We already had to shoot a scene from Season 2 [in Florida, since production is] moving to California, and that starts production in earnest towards the end of September.' (In other words, don't expect a release date any sooner than 2026.) Fox and Jeff Daniels' Season 3 Arcs As for the premise, Lawrence confirms that, while they fully intend to adapt the second Andrew Yancy-centric novel, 'Razor Girl,' for a future season, Season 2 will tell a wholly original story, with input from author Carl Hiaasen. ''Razor Girl' is a great novel for people who want to read it, but it's kind of a break from the characters of the first [book],' Lawrence explains, 'and we wanted to have some of the characters from the first season more front and center in the second' — including Natalie Martinez's Rosa. '[Season 2 is] an original story, but we're all Carl Hiaasen aficionados — and, also, Carl consults on the show and has been helping us a ton.' Vaughn stars as the aforementioned Andrew Yancy, a police detective who in Season 1 investigated a bizarre crime in the Florida Keys while on suspension from the force. Martinez co-starred as coroner Rosa, who emerged as a love interest for Yancy, with Rob Delaney and Meredith Hagner playing married scammers Nick and Eve Stripling. The ensemble also included Ronald Peet as Neville, John Ortiz as Ro, Jodie Turner-Smith as Gracie (aka the Dragon Queen) and Michelle Monaghan as Bonnie. Bad Monkey wrapped Season 1 in October. The finale found Yancy and Rosa agreeing to part ways, and Yancy's friend Ro tempting him to look into another case. Its freshman run was based on Hiaasen's 2013 novel, 'Bad Monkey,' while 'Razor Girl' was published in 2016. Ted Lasso Season 4: Everything We Know View List Best of TVLine 'Missing' Shows, Found! 'The Buccaneers' Season 2 on Apple TV+: Kristine Frøseth made the crew cry in this scene

The Apple TV+ show The Buccaneers is back for Season 2, making its return with a story that is more messy and emotional, as the stakes for all its characters are higher than ever. The season picks up right where we left off, as we see Nan (Kristine Frøseth) marry Theo (Guy Remmers), becoming the Duchess of Tintagel as a way to protect her sister Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse), and Jinny's unborn child, from the abusive Lord James Seadown (Barney Fishwick). While newspaper covers have stories about Seadown's missing wife, Ginny and Guy (Matthew Broom) are staying safe in Italy. But there are clearly still feelings between Nan and Guy that they both have to put aside for Jinny's protection. Something The Buccaneers really excelled in during Season 1 was using the costumes, hair and makeup to make a big visual impact for key moments of the story. That's very true of Season 2 as well, including one moment that brought the show's costume designer, Kate Carin, to tears. Near the end of Season 2 premiere episode, Nan has a conversation with the Dowager Duchess of Tintagel (Amelia Bullmore), initially insisting she know where her sister is, while the Dowager Duchess insists that Jinny is safer if Nan doesn't know details of her whereabouts. But Nan has concerns that Jinny will be discovered with so much coverage of Seadown's "missing" wife in the newspapers. "Some more fascinating story will come along to knock Jinny from the headlines," the Dowager Duchess says. "Now go and show the world how you intend to behave." Then, while Nan sees the black dress hung up for her for that evening's Black & White Ball, where she will make her debut as the Duchess, she has an idea. Nan shows up to the ball a stunning red gown, paired with red lipstick and an intricate braided up-do, as the Sabrina Carpenter song "Looking at Me" plays. Nan realizes she can make headlines herself, getting her sister out of the newspapers. "It's a scary thing in terms of writing it on a page, and talking about it in a writer's room, because you go, 'And then there will be this amazing moment where she comes out in this dress and she looks fabulous and everybody looks at her.' And you have to trust that the team are going to pull it out the bag, but it's fantastic," the show's creator, Katherine Jakeways, told Yahoo Canada. "The way that it was shot as well, it really worked." "Kate Carin cried when she saw her wearing it for the first time. ... We were all crying a lot, we're very attached." "There were 10 people in Glasgow sewing that dress It was a kind of real labour of love," producer Joe Innes added. As executive producer Beth Willis explained, the first episode of the season explores how Nan feels after her wedding and ends up "laying down the gauntlet" after the Dowager is pressuring Nan to do as she's told. "She's bullied her into this marriage. She's blackmailed her. She wants her to be quiet. She's telling her that her sister will eventually get out of the headlines, and just to stay quiet and behave," Willis said. "And there's something so powerful, empowering, exciting, delicious about Nan going, yeah you know what, I'm the Duchess now, and you've got trouble on your hands, because I'm not going to play by the rules." "That just delighted us so much as an idea and being able to do it in that visual way, a Black & White ball, with a Sabrina Carpenter track over the top of it, just felt like enormous fun." But for Nan, part of her journey is understanding the power she has as the Duchess, and how that can help not just Jinny, but all women. "She chooses to just keep going and getting up, getting out of bed and trying to make better choices," Kristine Frøseth said. "And initially it's about her sister and trying to protect her, but it will have a big impact for a lot of women. So I think she's incredible in that aspect."A particularly exciting addition to The Buccaneers Season 2 is Leighton Meester as Nelle, Nan's biological mother and Patricia's (Christina Hendricks) sister. "I think we were just all super dedicated to creating the relationship that would read on screen, that there was history," Christina Hendricks said. "There's so much in these characters in such a quick amount of time, ... it moves in such a quick pace." "We would text each other anytime we could to say, like, 'Do you have a moment? Let's talk about this. I had this idea. I was wondering if you felt the same way.' And I think we were all super committed to finding any moments we could to sort of facilitate making that relationship work." Adding to that, the first episode also shows Patricia taking a stand against her husband, saying that she wants a divorce. "Tracy's a shit, so this needed to be talked about," Hendricks said. "It's great that we're showing a divorce on a period show and doing our sort of modern take on it. ... He's such a creep. Everyone knows it, but it's also terrifying for her." While a core part of The Buccaneers is the friendship we see between this core group of women, things change in Season 2. There's still so much love there, but dynamics are shifting throughout the season. "I think the friendship is the absolute beating heart of the show," Willis said. "And right from the beginning, before we even started work on series one, we knew that Nan would choose Jinny over the two boys in that final episode, and I think that love will always be there between all of them." "But as is true of life, when you have a group of friends in your 20s and it's just all about parties and fun, and who do I fancy? Who fancies me? Who might I get together with? It's kind of fun and it's frivolous. And as you get a bit older in life and responsibilities hit you, you're pulled apart from your friends, and sometimes you don't behave as you'd like to think you might behave. And there are betrayals and there are jealousies. And we know that all roads lead to them loving each other, but we definitely explore them in Season 2."

The anime's official website confirmed the update and also shared new standing visuals for the main characters. These include fresh artwork of Aoi, Odanna, and others from the spirit realm. The new season brings both old charm and fresh creativity. New studio and director joining the project "Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits" TV anime Season 2 announced for Fall 2025. GONZO, which made the first season, is returning but will now be joined by animation studio Makaria. This is the same studio that worked on Dropkick on My Devil Apocalypse Day. The writing will again be handled by Tomoko Konparu. However, the biggest change is in the director's chair. Joe Yoshizaki, known for his work on The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows, will take over as director. He replaces Yoshiko Okuda, who directed the first season. In a message to fans, Yoshizaki said, 'Seven years have passed. The team is new. The seasons have changed. I will try my best to create something that truly fits the hearts of these characters. I hope this new version of the hidden world feels like both a dream and reality.' Kakuriyo Bed and Breakfast for Spirits season 1 recap Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits' first season aired in 2018 and ran for 26 episodes. It begins with Aoi Tsubaki, a kind-hearted college girl who can see spirits. After her grandfather passes away, Aoi learns that he left behind a massive debt to the spirit world. To her surprise, she is taken to the Hidden Realm as payment for that debt. There, she meets Odanna, a powerful ogre and the master of a traditional inn called Tenjin-ya. Odanna tells Aoi that her grandfather promised her hand in marriage to repay the debt. But Aoi refuses to marry anyone just like that. Instead, she offers to work at the inn and clear the debt on her own. As she takes up a job cooking for spirits, Aoi slowly wins over the guests and staff of Tenjin-ya with her food and kindness. Along the way, she discovers more about her grandfather's past, the spirit world's rules, and her own strength. Her bond with Odanna also starts to grow into something more. Season 1 blends food, magic, quiet romance, and a lot of heartwarming moments. It ends with Aoi earning the respect of the spirit world and finding a place for herself in a world she never knew existed.
