And unlike some ski resorts you might visit in the southern hemisphere, Chile's mountain offerings aren't a diluted version of the Rockies or Alps. Instead, they're truly unique—both in terms of terrain and culture—serving up a distinct skiing experience that, as you might guess, can't be experienced anywhere else in the world. A sprawling major ski destination located in Chile's famed Tres Valles area, Valle Nevado is highly accessible for international visitors, with numerous major multi-passes, including the Power Pass and the Mountain Collective pass, providing days on its slopes. Valle Nevado is also the only South American ski resort included in the Ikon Pass program. It makes sense that the companies behind these passes wanted to work with Valle Nevado. The ski resort has modern amenities, luxury hotels and an expansive heli-skiing program that spans 125,000 hectares—all above treeline. The opportunity to connect with and hopefully befriend international visitors, who often crowd the slopes of Valle Nevado, adds to the appeal.
Ever wanted to ski on the flanks of an active volcano? Add Nevados de Chillán to the bucket list. This ski resort is perched on the flanks of the Nevados de Chillán stratovolcano group, so skiers who moonlight as geologists can scope rock formations while they shred powder. Hot springs available at three hotels—Hotel Nevados, Valle Hermoso and Parque de Agua Termal—are another form of geothermal activity at the ski resort, serving as the ideal place to recover from a day spent skiing hard. Like many other Chilean ski resorts, Nevados de Chillán has a reputation for housing world-class backcountry terrain. One area above the ski resort is reserved for catskiing, so visitors can hitch a ride before schussing downhill. Guiding services, like Powder Quest, offer trips to Nevados de Chillán, too, making it easier and safer to experience the surrounding mountains beyond the rope lines.Portillo stands out with its iconic bright yellow hotel. Here, the ski resort offers all-inclusive packages that include lift tickets, lodging and meals for one price. The terrain, of course, is the most important part of the experience at any given ski resort, though, and in that department Portillo doesn't disappoint. Its slopes are steep and technical, with numerous backcountry lines nearby perfect for skiers willing and equipped to venture out of bounds.
These lines have made Portillo a frequent stop for North American pro skiers, like Connery Lundin, who during the austral winter have dropped clips of themselves shredding at the ski resort. Another draw for skiers seeking unique experiences is the Roca Jack—one of the funkier lifts you'll ever encounter. This unique surface ropeway functions like a giant slingshot, pulling skiers and snowboarders uphill.
La Parva, another Tres Valles ski resort, shares a border and an owner with Valle Nevado. Over the past few years, both ski resorts have come under the umbrella of the Durango, Colorado-based Mountain Capital Partners. For skiers who want to enjoy La Parva and Valle Nevado as one, that's a boon—MCP's Power Pass now offers 10 interconnected days at both ski resorts.
On its own, La Parva is worth visiting, too. The ski resort operates more than 10 lifts and spans over 3,000 feet of vertical. In-bounds, beginner to expert skiers will find plenty of trails worth checking out, but La Parva also shines with its backcountry offerings, which include a line named after the late, great Shane McConkey.
Visitors to the ski resort can unwind in La Parva's Bavarian-style village, which houses a grocery store, three restaurants and, if you're in need of some post-skiing dance therapy, a bar-slash-disco.Freestyle fans, this one's for you—El Colorado features South America's largest terrain park, with a vast array of features. Outside of the jumps and jibs, the ski resort's slopes mainly skew towards the beginner and intermediate crowd, making it a solid stop for those who don't need the toughest and steepest terrain. However, skiers craving a challenge will still find some harder runs at El Colorado on the eastern side of its cone-shaped peak.
A trip to El Colorado can, depending on your plans, also include checking out La Parva and Valle Nevado. El Colorado is the third Tres Valles area ski resort, although MCP doesn't own it, so you can't access the mountain's lifts using the Power Pass.
The lesser-known Corralco ski resort was added to the independent ski area-focused Indy Pass in March 2025, becoming the first South American destination to join the program. It doesn't have the acreage or amenities of, say, Valle Nevado, but Corralco's off-the-beaten-path status could make for a unique trip, particularly for those craving backcountry adventure. I've been to every hotel on the Las Vegas Strip — but there are just 5 that I'll always revisit.
Mandalay Bay has some of the best pools in Las Vegas. Mandalay Bay may be a bit south on The Strip, but it's still worth a visit. I love that it offers plenty of activities, like the on-site Shark Reef Aquarium. This hotel's 11-acre "aquatic playground" is also one of the coolest pool complexes in the entire city. You'll find a lazy river, wave pool, and more — but my favorite is the Moorea Beach Club, an adults-only, tops-optional pool complex with cabanas and daybeds for rental. The real draw for me, though, is that even the most basic-level rooms feel big and bright, with 550 square feet of space and floor-to-ceiling windows. I love that NoMad has a sleek aesthetic and a quiet, private pool. A luxurious "hotel within a hotel," NoMad spans the top four floors of Park MGM. Compared to Park MGM's cheery and bright decor, NoMad has a darker, moodier aesthetic. The rooms include original artwork, hardwood floors, and beautiful small touches throughout. Whenever I stay here, I feel like I'm in a luxe, big-city apartment instead of a hotel room. One of my favorite amenities is the quiet pool reserved for NoMad guests, who can enjoy all of Park MGM's pools and cabanas even when the pool is closed. Vdara is a great casino-free pick for families. Vdara is a rare Vegas resort without any casinos, making this a great option for non-gamblers, families, and business travelers. (Still, if you're looking to visit a blackjack table, you can easily visit the nearby casinos at the Aria, the Bellagio, and Cosmopolitan.) The modern suites with full kitchens provide an apartment-style experience. Plus, Vdara offers large windows with the best views of the Bellagio fountains and bright Vegas sunsets. My favorite budget hotel is the Flamingo. This is the best of the budget options on The Strip — and it's located right in the middle of all the action. Whenever I'm here, I can easily walk to the monorail, High Roller Ferris wheel, and shopping hubs, like the LINQ Promenade. When it comes to the hotel itself, I love the Flamingo's outdoor garden and Wildlife Habitat (which, yes, features real Chilean flamingoes). I also enjoy visiting the adults-only GO Pool. Offering the atmosphere of a day club, pool enthusiasts line up well before it opens to claim chairs and daybeds. Music blasts all day and there are waterfalls, small lounging islands, and even outdoor craps tables. Finally, the Flamingo has several stellar restaurant options. One of my favorites is Bugsy & Meyer's, a steakhouse with vintage decor and a facade that resembles an old general store. Out of all the hotels I've visited, the Wynn is my favorite. The Wynn Las Vegas (and its sister hotel, Encore) is my absolute favorite hotel complex in all of Las Vegas. The rooms are modern, spacious, and comfortable. Plus, I love that they include thoughtful touches like nice stemware and tablets for room controls, room service, and more. I'm also consistently impressed by the Wynn's food options. You'll find tons of high-quality restaurants here, including one of the few buffets on The Strip. Personally, I always look forward to having a sumptuous dinner at SW Steakhouse — and then, visiting the lakeside patio for a quirky light show.

Amazon uses 21 Air for new dedicated cargo service to Colombia
Amazon's private cargo airline, created to expedite online deliveries, has launched its first dedicated South American route with the help of two other carriers: 21 Air, a small U.S. freight operator, and Avianca, a major Latin American airline with a strong cargo arm. Amazon announced earlier this month the signing of Avianca Cargo as a customer for its new service that offers unused freighter space to third-party shippers. Avianca is booking shipments on Amazon Air backhaul flights from Bogotá, Colombia, to Miami that otherwise would be empty. The news release was issued by Amazon Air Cargo, the business unit that sells wholesale air cargo service to freight forwarders and other logistics operators, to highlight it is open for business to shippers in Colombia and the region. The announcement didn't focus on the fact that in-house airline Amazon Air, which has an extensive transport network in the United States and more limited footprints in Europe and India, is now operating internationally, bringing to Colombia inbound parcels filled with goods ordered on its marketplace. The daily flights, which began on April 8 utilizing a Boeing 767-300 converted freighter, mark the first time Amazon Air has conducted cross-border flights, excluding activity in close-knit Air relies on partner airlines because it isn't certified to fly commercial aircraft and doesn't have its own pilots. It has a fleet of nearly 100 converted freighters, including 10 Airbus A330-300s and Boeing 737-800 narrowbody aircraft. FreightWaves identified 21 Air as the carrier operating the Miami-Bogota route on Amazon Air's behalf, based on flight data from AirNav Radar. 21 Air, which began flying for Amazon in November, is based at Miami International Airport. It has a fleet of 16 Boeing 767s, six of which were supplied by Amazon. Amazon spokeswoman Gabriela Castillo confirmed that 21 Air is the underlying carrier for the Bogota service. 21 Air also operates in Amazon's traditional parcel network between San Juan, Puerto Rico; Miami and Amazon's superhub at Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport in Ohio. Avianca Cargo, which operates six Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft in addition to managing shipments carried by the airline's passenger fleet, said the northbound Amazon flights will be used to transport flowers and other products to the U.S. market. Miami is the largest U.S. gateway for fresh has been offering international shipping to Colombia since 2019. Prior to the new dedicated air cargo service it relied on ocean freight or other commercial airlines to move products to fulfillment warehouses in the country. In late May, it introduced the Amazon Prime paid subscription service for shoppers in Colombia. Membership includes free delivery from the U.S. to Colombia on eligible orders for tens of millions of items Mercado Libre is the largest e-commerce retailer in Latin America, including Colombia. Amazon also competes in the country with China's AliExpress and local online platforms. Amazon has focused this year on finding areas of opportunity in Latin America where there is both demand to move Amazon sales and third-party export shipments to defray operating costs, General Manager Tom Bradley said on a recent episode of The Loadstar podcast. 'And we've done that in Colombia' where there is a 'booming' e-commerce market and strong flows of perishable shipments to the United States, he said. 'It's a key route for us [because] we can combine synergies for Amazon customers with Amazon Air Cargo customers in the form of Avianca.' Amazon Air Cargo entered the for-hire airfreight market in September. Other customers listed on its website include Apex Logistics, a subsidiary of Kuehne+Nagel; DHL Express; and Miami-based ALK Global Logistic. Bradley reiterated that non-Amazon shippers benefit from Amazon's rigorous delivery standards, dense network, spare aircraft and technology, which allow the company to quickly adjust capacity to unexpected circumstances or demand fluctuations. During the run-up to Mother's Day in May, for example, Amazon Air implemented contingency plans to get a freighter assigned to the Miami-Bogotoa route back in service within 16 hours after it experienced a mechanical issue. Flower volumes were heavy during that period, but Amazon was able to quickly catch up on the temporary backlog, he said. Shippers can tender loads on an ad hoc basis, reserve guaranteed blocks of space or charter entire aircraft through Amazon Air Cargo. The majority of business in Europe is charter volume, particularly to European islands like Malta, Cyprus and Guernsey, Bradley told The Loadstar podcast.
