Pier Hess Graf wins Republican primary for Lebanon Co. DA, will likely serve another term
Lebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf will likely serve another term after winning the Republican primary Tuesday night.
With all 60 precincts reporting in and mail-in votes counted, Graf received 2,437 votes while senior public defender Michael Light II received 1,394 votes. No one ran on the Democratic ticket.
'The most humbling moment of my life was taking the oath as Lebanon County's District Attorney – to have the responsibility of protecting the community where I was born and raised,' Graf said when she announced her re-election campaign.
According to a release by Graf in December, she took 105 defendants to trial during her 15-year career as a local prosecutor. Since becoming District Attorney in 2020, Graf claims she has a 100% conviction rate, and secured first-degree guilty verdicts in each homicide case she personally tried.
As Lebanon County District Attorney, Graf presided over several high profile cases, including against Kimberly Maurer, who was convicted for the torture and murder of 11-year-old Maxwell Schollenberger.
'Our trial team spent years preparing for this trial. Every day, we sifted through evidence and listened to witnesses who detailed the cruelty and utter depravity that was Maxwell's all-too-short life," Graf said. "Knowing his killers will die in prison and never hurt a child again is one of the most meaningful accomplishments in my career."
Graf also oversaw the investigation into the shooting death of Lebanon city police Lt. William Lebo in 2022. Lebo died in a shootout with a man who had broken into a home on the 1100 block of Forest Street.
'Being a prosecutor defines me to my core. I've spent my career in court aggressively facing heinous, violent, amoral criminals who preyed upon the innocent people of our community,' she said in her announcement release.
The Pennsylvania 2025 municipal election is scheduled for Nov. 4.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man was arrested Thursday on allegations that he threatened and spewed antisemitic epithets at Republican U.S. Rep. Max Miller while the two were traveling on an interstate highway near Cleveland. Police in Rocky River said Feras S. Hamdan, 36, of Westlake, voluntarily turned himself in with counsel present and is awaiting an appearance in municipal court. A message was left with his lawyer seeking comment. Miller, who is Jewish, called 911 while driving on Interstate 90 on his way to work Thursday. He reported that another driver was cutting him off, making profane hand gestures, showing a Palestinian flag and shouting death threats targeted at him and his 1-year-old daughter. After an interview with police, Miller filed a complaint against Hamdan alleging aggravated menacing and sought a criminal protective order. Local police continue to investigate with assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Attorney's office and the Rocky River prosecutor. The Ohio Jewish Caucus praised Rocky River police and extended their thoughts to Miller and his family, noting the incident followed by just days the politically motivated shootings in Minnesota, which left two people dead and two others injured. 'Enough is enough,' the all-Democratic legislative alliance said in a statement. 'There is no place for this type of violence — whether it be political, antisemitic, or ideological — whatsoever. We believe we can solve our differences with humility, not hatred.'

A man accused of threatening U.S. Rep. Max Miller and his family, using antisemitic slurs, and running the lawmaker off the road has been arrested amid mounting political violence against elected officials. The suspect allegedly threatened the Ohio Congressman, who is Jewish and supports Israel, on Thursday morning and called for the death of Israel, the Congressmen, and his family, according to a video shared by Miller Thursday. The individual also waved the Palestinian flag at him, Miller added. Authorities have identified the man as Feras S. Hamdan of Westlake, Ohio. The Rocky River Police Department said the suspect ran Miller off the road on Interstate 90 and left the area before law enforcement arrived. The 36-year-old suspect voluntarily turned himself in, according to police, and is awaiting a court appearance. 'What happened to Max this morning is yet another outrageous example of unhinged rhetoric inspiring unstable people to threaten and attack elected officials who are serving their communities,' wrote Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday. 'We must turn down the temperature in this country.' The incident comes following the shocking shooting of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses last weekend. Democratic state Rep. Suspect with Taser and rope charged in attempted kidnapping of Memphis mayor, police say
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A man has been charged with an attempted kidnapping of the mayor of Memphis after he went to the mayor's house in a gated community and was later arrested with a Taser, gloves, rope and duct tape in his vehicle, according to police. Memphis police on Wednesday announced that Trenton Abston, 25, is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, stalking and aggravated criminal trespass. Mayor Paul Young, a Black Democrat, was at home with his wife and children when Abston knocked on the door Sunday night, according to an arrest affidavit. Young said could see from his doorbell camera that the man was wearing gloves and had a lumpy bulge in his hoodie pocket. 4 A man was charged with an attempted kidnapping of Memphis Mayor Paul Young.
