Alabama baseball tumbles in new Top 25 rankings after latest SEC series loss
Two weeks after Alabama baseball rose to No. 8 in the nation in all the major Top 25 polls and rankings, the Crimson Tide are skidding a bit in the hyper competitive SEC.
After suffering back-to-back series losses -- first to Auburn and then to unranked Mississippi State over the weekend -- Alabama (29-8 overall, 8-7 SEC) tumbled in Monday's new Top 25 polls and rankings.
Rob Vaughn's team went 2-2 last week and fell seven spots to No. 21 in Baseball America's new Top 25 rankings. The Crimson Tide also fell seven spots to No. 20 in Perfect Game's Top 25.
Baseball America said of Alabama:
"Alabama's bats were held in check for the vast majority of the weekend, but the biggest positive was fireballer Riley Quick's start in which he collected seven strikeouts and allowed just one run in 5.1 innings."
Both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and D1 Baseball kept Alabama in the top 15 at No. 15. The Tide fell five spots in the Coaches Poll and are ranked one spot below UC Irvine (25-8) and one spot ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners (25-10).
SEC team vaults to No. 1 in new Week 10 college baseball Top 25 polls
For the second straight week, there's a new team in the top spot across the Top 25 rankings. The Texas Longhorns (29-5 overall, 13-2 SEC) climbed to No. 1 after taking two of three from Kentucky in Lexington. The Horns jumped the Arkansas Razorbacks (32-5), who dropped two of three to the Georgia Bulldogs (32-6) over the weekend in Athens. UGA is ranked No. 3 by Baseball America and Perfect Game.
Arkansas fell to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll and D1 Baseball rankings, and to No. 4 in Perfect Game and Baseball America.
Alabama baseball schedule 2025
The Crimson Tide welcome UAB (19-17) to Sewell-Thomas Stadium in midweek play Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. The game can be streamed via SEC Network+.
Alabama returns to SEC play Thursday when they travel to Baton Rouge to face the No. 7 LSU Tigers (31-6, 10-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday's series opener will be televised on ESPNU, while Saturday's finale can be seen on SEC Network. LSU was swept by Auburn (26-10) over the weekend at Plainsman Park.

Ranking Georgia football's 2025 home games from worst to first
The Georgia Bulldogs have a great home schedule for the 2025 season after having a pretty pedestrian home slate in 2024. Georgia's top home games are against Ole Miss, Alabama and Texas. Georgia fans have a lot to of interesting games to look forward to in 2025. The Bulldogs play three non-Power Four opponents and four SEC foes at home. Georgia enters the 2025 college football season on a 31 game home winning streak, which is the longest in the country. Georgia's last home loss came to the South Carolina Gamecocks in double overtime on Oct. 12, 2019. Since Georgia's last home loss, the Bulldogs have won two SEC championships and two national championships. However, Georgia will have a tough time going undefeated at home in 2025. Ranking Georgia football's 2025 home games from worst to best 7. Austin Peay Governors Austin Peay is Georgia's only Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponent this fall. The Governors lost to Georgia 45-0 in Athens back in 2018. There's no reason to think this game will be competitive. With a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, Georgia fans in attendance will likely be battling the heat. Austin Peay is Georgia's second straight non-Power Four opponent to open the season, but doe not come with the excitement of the season opener. Fans tuning in on TV may not like the channel selection for this one either. Date: Sept. 6 at 3:30 p.m. (all times listed at ET)TV: ESPN+/SEC Network+ 6. Charlotte 49ers The Charlotte 49ers have just one bowl appearance in their short school history (since 2015). The 49ers play in the American conference and likely won't be competitive with Georgia, but it will be UGA's last home game of the season, so it will be celebration for Georgia's senior class. As an added bonus, we like the 12:45 p.m. kickoff time for two reasons. First of all, Georgia plays Georgia Tech on Friday, so it gives the Bulldogs a bit of extra rest. Secondly, Georgia fans will be able to get some sunlight on what is likely to be a cool November day. Date: Nov. 22 at 12:45 SEC Network 5. Marshall Thundering Herd Marshall is the best of Georgia's three non-Power Four opponents this season. Georgia plays Marshall in the season opener, so it is must-watch action for Bulldog fans to see how the 2025 edition of UGA looks. Marshall won at Notre Dame back in 2022 under current head coach Charles Huff. The Thundering Herd are coming off a strong 10-3 season where they won the Sun Belt Conference championship. However, Marshall opted out of the Independence Bowl after too many players entered the transfer portal. Marshall is capable of making things interesting with Georgia in Week 1. Date: Aug. 30 at 3:30 ESPN 4. Kentucky Wildcats Now we're getting into the good games. Georgia plays Kentucky in their second SEC home game of the season. Georgia plays the Wildcats a week after Alabama, so the Bulldogs could be dealing with a big game hangover. Kentucky always smells like a trap for Georgia and 2025 is no different. Kentucky has given Georgia a lot of trouble over the years, but Georgia has won 15 straight games over the Wildcats. Georgia fans should expect another physical, low-scoring battle against the Wildcats. Date: Oct. 4 at noonTV: ESPN or ABC 3. Ole Miss Rebels Georgia fell at Ole Miss 28-10 last season after dominating the Rebels in Athens during the a convincing 52-17 win in 2023. Ole Miss back up quarterback Austin Simmons shredded the Georgia defense on one drive after Jaxson Dart briefly left in the 2024 matchup. Simmons is expected to start for coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels in 2024. Georgia-Ole Miss should be a very entertaining game. Both teams will look very different than their 2024 versions as both teams had at least eight players picked (Ole Miss 8, Georgia 13) in the 2025 NFL draft. Date: Oct. 18 at flex kickoff time (afternoon or night)TV: To be determined 2. Alabama Crimson Tide The Alabama game is technically Georgia's only scheduled home night game of the season (both Texas and Ole Miss are flex games), but we'd be surprised if the Bulldogs don't get at least two night home games. Last season, Alabama beat Georgia 41-34 after the Bulldogs mounted a furious comeback. The 2025 edition of Georgia-Alabama will feature two new quarterbacks and no Nick Saban, but the Dawgs and Crimson Tide are still two of the top programs in college football. Both schools are looking to make a name for themselves in 2025 and as usual a lot will be on the line when Georgia and Alabama meet. Georgia and Alabama have combined to win five of 11 national championships during the College Football Playoff era (they faced off in two national title games during this time span) and 10 of the last 11 SEC championships (they met in three of those 10 SEC championship games). Date: Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. TV: ABC 1. Texas Longhorns Arch Manning and Texas will travel to Athens for the first ever time as a member of the SEC. Texas is projected to be the preseason No. 1 team. The Longhorns played Georgia twice in 2024 with the Dawgs winning both meetings including the 2024 SEC championship. Both teams are expected to contend for the national championship and the winner of the Georgia-Texas game could clinch a berth in the SEC championship. The Georgia-Texas game has a little more intrigue than the Georgia-Alabama game because Georgia has never played Texas in Sanford Stadium and because it is later in the season. The Georgia-Texas game could also effectively eliminate the loser from the College Football Playoff depending on how the season shakes out. National outlets project chances of Mark Sears, Grant Nelson being taken in 2025 NBA Draft
The Alabama Crimson Tide have sent six players to the next level via the NBA Draft under Nate Oats since his abbreviated first season as head coach in 2019-20. Former Crimson Tide guard Kira Lewis Jr. was the first player of the Oats era to be drafted when the New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the No. 13 overall pick in the first round in 2020. Josh Primo followed Lewis as a first-round pick in 2021, going No. 12 overall to the San Antonio Spurs. That same year, Herbert Jones became the second Alabama player drafted by the Pelicans in as many years (second round, No. 35 overall). J.D. Davison was a late pick in 2022 and was recently given a standard two-year contract by the Boston Celtics after winning G League MVP honors. In 2023, Brandon Miller tied Antonio McDyess as the highest-drafted player (No. 2 overall) in Alabama basketball history. Noah Clowney followed Miller in the first round at No. 21 overall to the Brooklyn Nets. With Labaron Philon announcing in late May that he was withdrawing from the NBA Draft and returning to Alabama for his sophomore season, it leaves the number of Crimson Tide players available in this year's class at three: guard Mark Sears, forward Grant Nelson and big man Clifford Omoruyi. The three joined Philon players invited to this year's draft combine in Chicago. The NBA Draft will consist of two rounds with 59 total selections. Duke guard Cooper Flagg is the runaway favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. The draft will begin Wednesday, June 25 from Barclay's Center in Brooklyn and will be televised on ABC and ESPN beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Here's where the national media outlets have Sears, Nelson and Omoruyi ranked among the top 100 draft-eligible prospects, as well as any mock drafts, on the final weekend before the 2025 NBA Draft. USA TODAY Sports analyst projects two Alabama players will be taken in 2025 NBA draft In terms of an actual mock draft, For The Win's Bryan Kalbrosky lists Sears and Nelson as second-round picks in his latest projections. Kalbrosky sees Sears going 45th overall to the Chicago Bulls, with Nelson being the final player taken at No. 59 by the Houston Rockets. Yahoo Sports NBA Draft analyst has Mark Sears as second-round pickup Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor has Sears as the only Alabama player on his NBA Draft big board. O'Connor's latest mock draft has Sears being selected with the 57th overall pick (third from last) by the Orlando Magic. O'Connor describes Sears as a "clutch college star who rains shots from everywhere behind an advanced array of ball-handling moves." Sears' downside, at least according to O'Connor, is that he was "a pint-sized leader, and so often those players get torched on defense at the next level, shrinking them to bit-player status." Still, the Yahoo Sports analyst argued in favor of Sears going to the Magic: "Why not? Sears might be tiny, but the Magic could surround him with length and versatility." ESPN ranking of Alabama players eligible for NBA Draft ESPN unveiled its final big board rankings of the top 100 draft prospects on Saturday. NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony ranks the three Alabama players in this order: CBS Sports has Grant Nelson as Alabama's highest-ranked NBA draft prospect in 2025 CBS Sports' full draft prospect rankings favor Nelson over Sears as the Alabama player most likely to be drafted Wednesday night. The Athletic The Athletic's Sam Vecente (subscription required) breaks down the top 100 draft prospects into eight tiers. Tier 1 players are defined as "All-NBA" talent, while Tier 8 players are listed as "two-ways, stashes and exhibit 10s." An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn't guarantee. Texas A&M starting QB Marcel Reed is being highly undervalued this offseason
Texas A&M's 2025 football season is critical for several reasons, starting with second-year head coach Mike Elko's future with the program, and followed by starting quarterback Marcel Reed's standing in the depth chart, knowing that he'll need to improve as a pocket passer to lead the Aggies to the program's first College Football Playoff berth. It's early, and quarterback rankings, especially in the SEC, are premature. Still, we've all assembled our own, including Aggies Wire contributor Dylan Flippo's SEC QB rankings, where he placed Marcel Reed at No. 6, providing an accurate assessment of his reasoning behind the high standing. "Amongst a stacked class of dual-threat quarterbacks in the conference this season, Reed has what it takes to be the best. His 1,864 passing yards in 11 games and 12.2 yards per carry last season were just a glimpse into the potential he has at the helm for the Aggies. Staying present and in the moment will be key for Reed with just a year of SEC experience under his belt." Advertisement Marcel Reed doesn't lack confidence, and as Flippo noted, he was close to passing for 2,000 yards in a season where quarterback Conner Weigman also started several games before transferring to Houston this offseason. Reed's legs are his strength, but his offseason workouts have shown a player with plenty of zip on his throws and velocity to boot. Still, Reed remains undervalued among SEC signal callers. While he should be ranked under Arch Manning (Texas), Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), and LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), every other projected SEC starting quarterback is up for debate. On Monday, College Football Report released its latest SEC QB rankings, unsurprisingly being ranked at No. 10 below first-year Ole Miss starters Austin Simmons (Ole Miss) and Ty Simpson (Alabama). One theory is that non-Texas A&M media members are judging Marcel Reed based on his poor play against the Texas Longhorns in last season's 17-7 loss. If that is indeed the case, it is highly unfair and one of the primary reasons his skillset is being overlooked. However, while he has shown flashes of brilliance, it's time for the Tennessee native to put together a complete season in 2025.
