The 'The Bengal Files' director said, "I can guarantee that Deepika had no idea about JNU politics when she went there."On being interrupted about whether he was implying that the actor was not smart enough, Agnihotri further said, "It's not about being dumb.""Her PR must've told her that this is a good opportunity to promote your film, because the university is associated with politics, and the film is also political. If she had known, she wouldn't have come," the director went on.Agnihotri emphasised that associating with politics can lead to inevitable risks. He said, "You play with fire, you get burned.""I don't know her personally, so I don't know what ideology she aligns with. I do know that she is a very smart and intelligent woman," the director added.advertisementAgnihotri further said, "Had she known that this is a politically sensitive place and that it might impact her career, she would've definitely not gone.""During film promotions, there are too many voices telling stars what to do and who to speak to. Her PR was mistaken, they thought it was an event. But it wasn't an event. Bigger fish than her have been fried for getting involved in politics," he said.Padukone played an acid-attack survivor, Malti, in 'Chhapaak', based on a tragic real-life incident.Amid the promotion of her film, she visited JNU in solidarity with students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).Agnihotri, known for being politically vocal on various issues, recently unveiled the teaser of his political-drama 'The Bengal Files'."The film features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Puneet Issar and Saswata Chatterjee, among others in crucial roles.'The Bengal Files' is scheduled to release on September 5.Must Watch

Karnataka government's job-training YouTube channel hacked, videos deleted

Bengaluru: Fraudsters have hacked into a govt-run YouTube channel — Vijaya Patha —and deleted hundreds of videos meant to guide job aspirants across Karnataka. The channel, maintained by the department of collegiate education, was part of an official initiative to offer online coaching and information on job opportunities, especially in the central govt sector. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The cyberattack, which took place between Jan 18 and June 16, came to light after the newly appointed special officer for the channel, Vikram K, noticed suspicious activity and flagged it for an audit. The fraudsters not only deleted all the uploaded content but also changed the channel's name twice, before eventually blocking it from public view. Following a complaint filed by deputy director Chandrashekara Nayak, Central CEN crime police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and launched an investigation. The motive behind the hacking remains unclear, and officials admit they are puzzled over why a public education resource would be targeted in this way. According to senior officers in the department, Vijaya Patha had more than 1.7 lakh subscribers and featured videos created by professors and experts on topics such as mental ability, history, and current affairs — all tailored for competitive exams. The department also runs another channel, Vijayi Bhava, which focuses on state govt job opportunities. That channel remains unaffected, with over 5.7 lakh subscribers and more than 700 videos currently available. Vikram, who was appointed in Jan this year, discovered that Vijaya Patha had been renamed Karnataka Exams without authorisation. He initiated the audit and, in March, sought clarification from the previous officer in charge, Manjunath B, who allegedly gave only an oral response, confirming that the channel had been hacked. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Despite the breach, no prior information was shared with senior officials about the hacking or blocking of the channel. The fraudsters deleted hundreds of videos and renamed the channel. After a few days, they changed the name back to Vijaya Patha but blocked it from the Internet entirely," a senior officer said. Efforts are on to restore the channel. The department has assured that precautions are being taken to secure Vijayi Bhava, which also hosts many of the videos originally uploaded to Vijaya Patha. Aspirants can continue accessing central govt job preparation content there in the meantime. Plans are in place to relaunch Vijaya Patha 2.0, with the official launch expected soon. A govt order will be issued to formalise its reactivation, officials said.

Filing of PILs inappropriate when statutory remedies are available: HC

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court has held that invocation of extraordinary jurisdiction by way of a public interest litigation (PIL) is inappropriate and impermissible when a robust and adequate statutory framework already exists for redressal of a particular grievance. "Allowing unfettered recourse to PIL in such instances would amount to a judicial usurpation of legislative foresight and undermine the primary responsibility of the legislature to craft laws. Bypassing these meticulously designed mechanisms through PIL circumvents the intended architecture of grievance redressal and potentially dilutes the role of expert authorities," the high court has said. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel has passed the orders on a petition filed by one Anuj Malik and others. The petitioner sought directions to restrain all online opinion trading platforms, mobile applications, websites, and digital mediums from advertising, promoting, or marketing betting and wagering activities through platforms, including YouTube, X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, radio, print media, television, in blatant violation of statutory laws. They argued that despite a robust legal framework in place, the law was being flouted through misleading advertisements and unregulated financial systems. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brigade Grand Dreams 2025 | 12 Month Payment Holiday* Brigade Group Learn More Undo The petitioners further submitted that if appropriate action was not undertaken, such platforms would continue to dupe gullible users. Responding to the plea, the govt informed that there already exists a legal and statutory framework within which any aggrieved person can approach the authorities concerned for redressal of any grievances, as raised by the petitioner. The govt counsel specifically drew the attention of the court to The Haryana Prevention of Public Gambling Act, 2025, which has been notified from April 9, 2025, and submitted that without adverting to the existing statutory framework, approaching this court by way of PIL amounts to bypassing the legislative mandate. After hearing the matter, the bench disposed of the petition, asking the petitioner to raise his grievance before the authorities concerned in terms of extant laws. BOX 'Unwarranted proliferation of litigation' Encouraging indiscriminate PILs, despite available statutory remedies, leads to an unwarranted proliferation of litigation, a burden on constitutional courts, as well as a judicial docket explosion. These risks transform constitutional courts into primary redressal fora rather than their intended role as ultimate arbiters of constitutional questions. Judicial resources, being scant and precious, must be conserved for matters of genuine public importance MSID:: 121975661 413 |
