Yoga ensures good health for all, says Collector

Vizianagaram: District Collector Dr B R Ambedkar emphasised that yoga should be an integral part of everyone's life and is essential for maintaining good health. He was speaking at a grand event organised at the Rajiv Stadium in Vizianagaram, marking the International Yoga Day, where over 5,000 yoga practitioners participated in mass yoga demonstrations.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector noted that as part of the month-long 'Yogandhra' campaign, several programmes were organised across the district with the active participation of public representatives, to whom he expressed his heartfelt thanks. He also appreciated the efforts of officials and the people who contributed to the success of the initiative.
The Collector stated that 31,000 participants from Vizianagaram district were sent to Visakhapatnam to participate in large-scale yoga events held there, and he extended his gratitude to all those who attended.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, yoga programmes were conducted at 5,775 venues across the district, reaching nearly 900,000 yoga practitioners, he added.
As part of the Yogandhra initiative, special yoga events were organised at various spiritual and tourist destinations like Ramanarayanam, Chintapalli Beach, Ramatheertham temple and Tadipudi Reservoir
A special 'Thematic Yoga' programme was also conducted in S Kota involving 7,000 MGNREGS workers, highlighting the widespread outreach of the campaign.
In addition, yoga rallies and various competitions were organised for youth and students throughout the district.
The Collector stressed that yoga should not be limited to a one-month event, but must become a lifelong practice.
Coinciding with the International Yoga Day, this month's Swachh Andhra – Swarnandhra programme (held on the third Saturday of every month) was themed around yoga. Participants took a pledge to dedicate time daily toyoga for personal well-being and the development of a healthy Andhra Pradesh.

Varanasi: Taking swift action in response to a case of alleged fraud under Ayushman Bharat scheme, UP Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, who is also the in-charge minister for Varanasi district, on Saturday ordered the immediate closure of an unregistered hospital and the lodging of an FIR against its operator. The minister was in the city to lead International Yoga Day events on Saturday, when he reached the Prime Minister's parliamentary constituency office in Jawahar Nagar for a public hearing. The action came after Surendra Banwasi, a local resident, filed a complaint during the public hearing. He alleged that Asha Hospital, located in Nayepur area under Baragaon police station limits, had claimed reimbursement for his father's treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme while also charging him money for the same services. The hospital later refunded the amount taken from Banwasi. Responding immediately, the minister directed the Chief Medical Officer and local authorities to probe the matter and take decisive action. CMO Dr Sandeep Choudhary said that a medical officer, Dr Sher Muhammad, was appointed to investigate. Upon verification, it was found that the hospital was functioning without valid this revelation, Dr Muhammad, accompanied by the Baragaon police, reached the hospital and ensured its closure with immediate effect. "The in-charge minister took the complaint seriously and instructed for strict action without delay. The hospital was found unregistered and action was taken on the same day," said Dr Choudhary.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said the state government has taken the initiative to integrate yoga into school curriculum and public health programmes in a bid to build a healthy, self-reliant, efficient and empowered Odisha. Participating in a state-level event at Kalinga Stadium on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the chief minister said efforts are being made to make yoga an integral part of everyone's life. Workshops and awareness programmes are being organised through schools, colleges, hostels and sports centres. Yoga sessions are being held in all districts of the state and thousands of people have joined these programmes to celebrate Yoga Day, he said. Majhi said yoga is not just a physical exercise or limited to a few asanas. It is a unique blend of physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual aspects. Yoga has become universally accepted, transcending boundaries of caste, religion and creed. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, steps were taken to introduce yoga to the world, leading to the United Nations declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga is a precious gift from India to global humanity and now people across the globe celebrate Yoga Day with enthusiasm and zeal, he said. The theme for this year's International Yoga Day is 'One World, One Health for Yoga', which highlights the deep connection between individual well-being and the health of the planet. The state-level yoga event saw participation of around 15,000 people, including ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior officials of the government.

The programme was organised by Tenali Municipality and witnessed enthusiastic participation from all sections of society. The Minister actively performed various Yoga asanas alongside trained instructors and participants, motivating citizens by joining them in their practice. Hundreds of residents, including government employees and youth, gathered at the venue from as early as 6:30 am to participate in the hour-long session. Addressing the gathering, Minister Manohar emphasised that Yoga offers a sustainable path to healthy living without reliance on medicines, noting that it forms an integral part of India's cultural heritage, contributing to both physical and mental well-being. Grand Yoga Day fete at IGMC stadium in Vijayawada The District-level International Yoga Day celebrations were held with great enthusiasm at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada on Saturday. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G Jaya Lakshmi, Collector G Lakshmisha, Commissioner of Police Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S Ilakkiya, former Minister Pithala Sujatha, APNGOs State President A Vidya Sagar, and DCP Saritha joined thousands of participants and trainers in performing Yoga asanas. Collector Lakshmisha announced that around 8.5 lakh people participated in Yoga sessions across the district and urged citizens to adopt Yoga for managing diabetes, hypertension, and stress. Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu praised the district's efforts and noted their achievement in setting a world record with floating Yoga.
