Madhya Pradesh: Cop caught on video asking gym to bar entry of Muslims; removed from field duty
Madhya Pradesh: A police sub-inspector has been removed from field duty and attached to police lines after he allegedly asked a gym owner not to allow entry to Muslims at the facility in Bhopal, officials said on June 3.
The action against sub-inspector Dinesh Sharma was taken after a video surfaced on social media showing him purportedly making the controversial comments.
"No Mohamedan (Muslim) will come here to train or take training. I am telling you this clearly," the policeman was heard instructing the gym owner in the now-viral video clip on social media.
A group of people had raised objection to the presence of Muslim trainers at the gym in Bhopal's Ayodhya Nagar locality, according to reports. Bajrang Dal members had visited the gym, and raised questions over the presence of Muslim trainers at the facility, police said, news agency PTI reported.
Police personnel, including SI Dinesh Sharma, were subsequently called to the spot to manage the situation. Sharma allegedly made the comments at that time, an official said.
After a video of his comments went viral on social media, the police started an investigation into the matter. Following the investigation, Sharma was on Monday attached to the Police Lines here, an official said.
The police have made it very clear that no such act will be allowed which creates tension between communities, the official added.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bhopal, Alok Sharma, told the media on June 1 that a 'list of gym instructors' in the city had been compiled, and insisted that women clients should be trained only by women instructors.
'The list of gym trainers will be handed over to the police, who will act according to the law,' he said.
Congress MLA Arif Masood criticised the move, questioning the rationale behind targeting gym professionals based on religion. 'Is running a gym now a crime? If it's being run following rules, then what is the problem?' he asked.

The complaint was lodged by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, also known as Ashok Rathod, who serves as the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities. He alleged that during the pre-release event of the film Retro, which stars actor Surya, the actor made statements that hurt the sentiments of tribal communities and caused serious offence. Rathod further claimed that the actor's comparison of tribal people to Pakistani terrorists was racially insensitive. What Vijay Deverakonda had said During the pre-release event of Surya's film Retro, Vijay addressed the Pahalgam terror attack and said, 'The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. India doesn't even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. After facing backlash on social media for his comments, the actor expressed regret. I wish to sincerely clarify: there was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, who I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country." The actor clarified that his intention was to promote unity, emphasising that India is one, its people are one, and the nation must progress together. He expressed disbelief at the idea that, while advocating for national solidarity, he would deliberately target or discriminate against any community, all of whom he considers part of his larger family. He concluded, "If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide. Vijay Deverakonda."

Definitely no politics, but open to coaching India: Sourav Ganguly
Former skipper Sourav Ganguly has categorically ruled out entering politics, but says he is not averse to coaching the Indian team. Ganguly, who will turn 53 this July, was the Team Director of Delhi Capitals between 2018-19 and 2022-24. "I never really thought about it because I got into different roles," Ganguly told PTI in a free-wheeling podcast interview when asked if he would like to coach the Indian team. "I finished (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became Board (BCCI) President," said Ganguly, noting that his biggest contribution to Indian cricket in that role was to promote women's cricket. When suggested that he could have contributed more by becoming India coach, Ganguly said: "We'll see what the future holds. I'm just 50 (53), so let's see what happens. I'm open to it. We'll see where it goes," the veteran cricket. Live Events One thing he is not getting into is politics. Asked if he would like to join a political party ahead of West Bengal assembly elections in 2026, Ganguly said with a smile: " I am not interested." What if he is promised the state chief minister's post? "I am not interested," he repeated. Asked which party he would like to join if he has a choice, Ganguly said he has never thought about that. "It's not as easy as you say. I get the opportunity (to enter politics) every year but I don't think that's my cup of tea. I have no interest in politics, I just observe because a country and a states' progress is directly attached to people who run it." Ganguly was all praise for incumbent coach Gautam Gambhir , who he feels, has picked up pace as coach since Champions Trophy victory in Dubai earlier this year. "Gautam (Gambhir) is doing a good job. He started off a little slow, losing to Australia and New Zealand, but he picked up with the Champions Trophy. This is going to be a big series (vs England)," Ganguly said. Asked how astute a tactician Gambhir is, Ganguly praised the southpaw's passion and his ability to express his opinions in a straight forward manner. "I haven't seen him from very close in this role, but I know he is very passionate. I haven't observed his strategies closely because I haven't worked with him as a coach. "He's very straightforward, he sees things clearly, and he's very open about what he feels, about the team, players, people, everything. From the outside, you can tell he's a very transparent person - what you see is what you get." Ganguly recollected his playing days when he found Gambhir to be very respectful towards senior. "I've played with him. He was a great guy with a lot of respect for me and the senior players. Even now, I can see he is extremely passionate about his job." Ganguly also feels that with just a year into the job, Gambhir should be allowed time to grow as a coach and learn with passage of time. "I wish him all the best. He's just a year into the job, and this will be an important (England) tour. He struggled a bit in Australia, but just like everyone else, he'll learn, he'll grow, and he'll become better." Ganguly revealed that by the end of 2026 his biopic will release and Rajkumar Rao will be the protagonist. "The shooting will start in January, the pre-production, scripting and story writing takes a lot of time, shooting does not take much time," he said.
