Police detain 13 suspects involved in communications cable theft under Sosma

SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested 13 individuals under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), in connection with their involvement in communication cable theft, believed to be with intent to sabotage major communication systems in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that all suspects, arrested through Op Lusuh Mulia, committed these crimes along critical routes supporting government data infrastructure and the security sector.
"Disruptions to these facilities have the significant potential to affect the maintenance of telecommunication services and related communication infrastructure, thereby threatening public order.
"Therefore, all suspects will be further detained for a period not exceeding 28 days under the provisions of Section 4(5) of Sosma to assist the ongoing investigation," he said in a statement today.
He added that the police are committed to combating crimes that can threaten national security and public well-being, while also calling for public cooperation to help curb criminal activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 124 of the Penal Code.
Previously, Hussein was reported to have said that five police personnel, including two Sergeants and three Corporals, were masterminds behind cable theft activities around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for the past year.
He said that the police personnel, who were stationed at district police headquarters and police stations around the two states, were among 16 suspects, including a woman, aged between 23 and 53, arrested for involvement in the syndicate known as "Sindiket Mulia" (Mulia Syndicate), named after its leader. — Bernama

TELUK INTAN: Police are intensifying efforts to locate three masked men involved in a robbery at an entertainment outlet here, which left two patrons injured. "Initial investigations successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. This suspect has now been placed on the wanted list. "The forensic unit from the Perak Police Headquarters visited the scene and found several pieces of evidence, including traces of blood, two fingerprints, and glass shards. "CCTV footage has also been obtained from the location to assist in the ongoing investigation," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using weapons, and under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to property. If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment of up to 20 years, along with fines and caning. Bakri said police are actively conducting investigations, and efforts to track down all involved suspects are being intensified. "Members of the public with any information are urged to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Hilir Perak Police Station or any nearby police station," he said.

IPOH: Police are seeking three masked men armed with machetes, who were seen in a viral video. They were suspected of causing injuries to patrons, damaging items, stealing money and vandalising cars at an entertainment outlet in Changkat Jong near Teluk Intan. ACP Bakri stated that initial investigations have successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a criminal record. He said the forensic unit from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters visited the crime scene and recovered several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints and shards of glass. New ‘Edisi Siasat 2.0' cannot be accessed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Telegram channel of 'Edisi Siasat 2.0', which was created after the 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' channels were blocked yesterday, is now also inaccessible to users of the platform.
