Why theGWS Giants social media team have been accused of having no class over one post
The GWS Giants ' social media team are widely known as the savviest in the AFL - but they have been accused of lacking decorum following a recent post involving former midfield star Tim Taranto.
Adam Kingsley's men narrowly avoided a shock defeat against Richmond on May 31 on home soil - and then cheekily published an image of Taranto wearing a GWS jumper.
The picture also featured the fulltime score and the word 'WIN.'
Taranto left the Giants at the end of 2022 to join Richmond on a lucrative seven-year deal.
Speaking on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters, host Craig Hutchison felt it was a classless move.
'He played a very good game, Taranto, but it's just cheekiness,' he said on Monday.
'Their social team have been (previously) well acclaimed.'
Collingwood premiership hero Dale Thomas added the Giants social team have been 'brilliant' in recent years - but the Taranto post was a 'miss' in his eyes.
'I like near on everything they do. I thought the stuff that they've done around pretty much every team they come up against has been fantastic,' he said.
'But that (one) was (definitely) a miss.'
Veteran AFL journalist Caroline Wilson was on the same page, adamant it was an instance of 'poor sportsmanship.'
It also isn't the first time GWS have come under fire for their bold social media posts.
They often get under the skin of the Swans online - and in April, they mocked Collingwood after the Magpies reportedly pleaded with the AFL to exclude them from being involved in Opening Round for the 2026 season.
The basis for their plea to league bosses relates to having to travel interstate in March.
It followed GWS thumping the current AFL ladder leaders in their season opener by 52 points - and given Craig McRae's side also lost their first match of 2024, they want to start next year with a match in Melbourne.
GWS were happy to stir the pot at the time - dishing up a hilarious sledge in response to the report on social media.
Initially they quoted the news story on X, before posting three laughing-face emojis.
The club's official account then reposted a video of Blake Shelton and Michael Buble performing 'Home', while captioning the video clip: 'Collingwood after their annual trip interstate.'

Wearing nothing but red swim caps, 3,000 courageous souls took the annual nude sunrise plunge into Hobart's River Derwent to mark the winter solstice. Melburnian Belinda Chambers said she had been watching people do it on television for years and decided to work remotely from Tasmania for the festival so she could stay and leave on a high. 'So exhilarating,' she said. 'I was nervous, but there was this almost primal moment of everyone being together that carries you along, and a sense of pure happiness.' 'The streets of Hobart have come alive with locals and visitors celebrating winter and Dark Mofo again.' More than 103,000 tickets were sold to Dark Mofo events in 2025, generating $4.6m. The festival has made a name for itself by courting controversy and in 2018 drew the ire of some by installing inverted Christian crosses along Hobart's waterfront.

AFL fans react to Geelong's t-shirt stunt ahead of Patrick Dangerfield's 350th career game - as Brisbane Lions flex their premiership muscles
Geelong's bold decision to fill GMHBA Stadium with a sea of white t-shirts ahead of their clash with Brisbane on Friday night backfired after the Lions cruised to a 41-point victory. The away side didn't read the script, kicking four early goals to assume control in what was a statement performance. The triumph also ended the club's long losing run in Geelong. Promoted pre-game as 'a sight to behold' and a 'slice of history' on the Geelong website, the Cats decked out every seat at the venue with white t-shirts. It is a move often seen in US sports, with the Indiana Pacers and OKC Thunder doing so in the NBA Finals. On a night when the club was also celebrating captain Patrick Dangerfield's milestone 350th AFL appearance, the commentators backed the concept. 'They have kitted out the Cattery with the white T-shirts on every seat, inspiration drawn from the NBA and college football in the US,' Gerard Whateley said on Fox Footy. 'It is quite the sight as the local heroes emerge onto the field. 'Patrick Dangerfield said one of his favourite parts of this would be (his children) Winnie, 'Flip' (Felicity) and George joining him to run through the banner. 'All the kids are fully aware of what they're part of, his place in Geelong folklore, which grows tonight, game (what is) a special night.' But numerous footy fans weren't on the same page, taking to X to question the move from the Cats. 'Lol white out is a roaring success so far,' one posted before halftime as Brisbane assumed control. 'I don't think the white out worked,' said another. 'White out turning into a whitewash,' a third weighed in with.
