Aussie's terrifying moment in Israel

An Aussie journalist has spoken of the chilling moment she realised a bunker she'd been trying to seek shelter in 'did not exist' as Iran launched missiles at Israel amid the countries' ongoing, deadly conflict. Channel 7 Europe Correspondent Jacquelin Robson is in Israel reporting on the country's escalating conflict with Iran. Robson told Sunrise she was out filming with her crew when they received an alert to seek shelter after missiles were fired from Iran. She was forced to pull over and try to find somewhere to shelter, telling the program of the chilling moment she realised a bunker she'd been trying to take refuge in didn't exist. 'There were some locals who were calling us over to a bunker, and we soon discovered that that bunker did not exist,' Robson told Sunrise. 'The final siren then sounded, and we were forced to run to find shelter, and found some space between some buildings.' Sirens can be heard going off in the footage as Robson puts on a helmet, crouching down in a corner against a building. Israel last week attacked a string of Iranian nuclear and military sites, with missiles fired back and forth between the countries since. There have been reports of 224 deaths in Iran as a result of the deadly conflict. Israeli Military chief of staff Eyal Zamir on Friday warned the IDF was prepared for a 'prolonged campaign'. 'We have embarked on one the most complex campaigns in our history,' Mr Zamir said, according to SBS. 'We have embarked on a campaign to remove a threat of this magnitude and against such an enemy that requires readiness for a prolonged campaign. 'The IDF is prepared for this. 'Day by day, our freedom of action is expanding and the enemy's freedom of action is shrinking.' Robson managed to find space between buildings to take shelter. Sunrise. 'In this regard, I make it crystal clear that Iran's defence capabilities are not negotiable,' Mr Araghchi said. He said Iran's nuclear program was 'peaceful'. Israel's United Nations ambassador Danny Danon said the country 'will not stop' until Iran's 'nuclear threat is dismantled', Sky News reported.

Hawthorn hero Cyril Rioli snubs club's premiership celebrations

Hawthorn's powerhouse premiership team from 2013-15 has celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its famous threepeat, with legends from far and wide joining the special event at Melbourne Town Hall on Friday night. Fans were thrilled to see AFL great Lance Franklin — who joined Sydney after the 2013 premiership and then faced his old teammates in the 2014 grand final — at the function, and lesser lights such as Matt Spangher (2014 premiership player) and Ryan Schoenmakers (2015) were also celebrated. Hawthorn's social media account posted images of the event, saying, 'Aura levels are off the charts.' And a flood of comments followed as fans quickly noticed a heartbreaking detail. 'Someone missing,' one fan said. While another asked: 'Where's Cyril?' Of course, the sad fallout between Cyril Rioli and his former club has been well documented, but it still impossible to fathom for many idolising fans. Rioli was an electrifying Hawthorn fan favourite, a four-time premiership hero, and a 2015 Norm Smith Medal winner. 'Where is Cyril? @jrboyrioli we miss you a lot! Please forgive us for any mistake we have done. We want you to join us as well,' one fan said. And another: 'I do miss Cyril. Hopefully under Mitchel he'll feel comfortable enough to come back.' 'Wish Cyril would go 😢,' another fan said. The fact is, the rift between Hawthorn and Rioli is so significant that it seems the former superstar will never embrace the club again. And that cold hard reality is now starting to be realised by fans. 'Cyril will never come back. It's sad,' one fan said. Former captain and Channel 7 star Luke Hodge said earlier this year that Rioli was not 'comfortable' with the idea of returning to the football club 'just yet'. 'There's been a number of guys that have reached out to Cyril. And we left on really good terms,' Hodge said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters. 'When he retired he sent me a message saying 'thanks for all the development and help'. I've had no issues with Cyril ever, but it's almost like he's parted ways with everyone there. 'Even a lot of the mentors in that forward line (at the time he played) haven't been able to connect with him either.' Hodge caught up with Rioli in Round 10 this year when Gold Coast played Hawthorn in Darwin. And cameras spotted Rioli cheering a Gold Coast goal. 'He had a fair smile on his face when Gold Coast kicked that goal,' Hodge said. 'I haven't seen him since about 2018. I saw (Gold Coast CEO) Mark Evans talking to him so I just wanted to go across and say g'day. 'It was just good, he was looking great, he had a smile on his face, he said his cousin was flying out there and has made a real difference to the Gold Coast Suns. 'It was great to see him and Shannyn over there.' Rioli's cousin Daniel plays for the Suns, moving north at the end of last year after a premiership-winning career with Richmond. 'I just got told that he was here. I didn't see him, I haven't been in contact with him yet,' Daniel told Channel 7 after that game. 'It's good to see him out here still watching the footy. I love him. 'The fans probably got around him, he's so well known here in the Top End and he was a Hawks player himself. It's good to see him here watching the footy.'

Visit from Aussie vet lifts spirits of young patients at PCH

A well-timed visit from vet and TV personality Chris Brown lifted the spirits of young patients at Perth Children's Hospital on Thursday. Dr Brown popped into the ward, alongside support dog Murphy, with Telethon gifts in hand as he chatted to youngsters like Kate Wagner. The 16-year-old has been in hospital for more than a year following a severe bacterial meningitis infection in May last year. She has been battling a serious central nervous system infection since, and is often in a lot of pain. Kate and Dr Brown bonded over their love of kelpies, discovering they both own the breed. Missing her own pup back home, Kate showered cavoodle Murphy with all the pats and scratches. 'It's really good (having support dogs at PCH) because a lot of the time you can't go outside,' she said. 'So, even bringing up my own dogs, I can't go see them or anything . . . there's weeks at a time I can't see a dog — I'm dog deprived!' Kate's mum, Jo Wagner, said they found out just hours before the visit that Kate had had a stroke sometime in the past few days. Channel 7's Dr Chris Brown with Kate Wagner. Credit: Kelsey Reid / The West Australian It means she's due to start another gruelling round of treatment to try get her infection under control. 'It's just awesome, the joy that it gives kids. Kate's got the biggest smile on her face,' Ms Wagner said. 'It's so hard because she's really sick, she's in so much pain, and so . . . it's just beautiful . . . animals just do something, (they) bring joy.' Credit: Kelsey Reid / The West Australian Dr Brown said it was a pleasure to see kids doing it tough in hospital 'embrace something different in their day'. 'Often the kids in here have pets at home they're missing. So dogs like Murphy become sort of that temporary replacement pet for them, to have a pat and just to feel that little touch of unconditional love again,' Dr Brown said. Telethon weekend is October 18 and 19.
