‘Stick to the Bullish Trend': Truist Sees Breakout Ahead for S&P 500 — 2 Stocks That Could Ride the Momentum

Markets roared into the new year on a wave of tech and AI optimism, climbing to record highs in February. That rally briefly lost steam when Trump's erratic tariff rollout injected a dose of uncertainty into the market. But with those concerns now receding, investors are shifting back into risk-on mode, and the S&P 500 is trading less than 3% below its peak. Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter On a 12-month basis, Keith Lerner, chief market strategist at Truist, sees this stretch as a period of quiet consolidation — one that could pave the way for further upside. 'If you look at the big picture for the overall market – the S&P – we've been flat for seven months, and the technology sector has been flat for almost a year. As we test these technical levels, I think we'll eventually break above them,' Lerner opined. 'That said, there's likely to be some pain trade… but I think in general, the underlying trend is still positive and we want to stick with that underlying trend.' Taking that outlook to heart, Truist's stock analysts have pinpointed two stocks they believe are primed to benefit from renewed market strength. We've used the TipRanks database to find out what the rest of the Street has to say about both of their recent picks. TAT Technologies (TATT) The first company we'll look at is TAT Technologies, an aerospace tech firm that provides a set of specialized services for the commercial and military aviation industries. These services include thermal solutions, including environmental controls as well as engine and fluid coolant systems; APU support, including service and maintenance of aircraft APUs (auxiliary power units); and landing gear services, to support this key system. At its core, TAT, a global firm, gives its customers a wide-ranging set of technical skills vital to keep aircraft fleets in efficient operating order. TAT was founded in 1969, and brings its decades of experience to bear on aviation problem solving. The company takes a proactive approach, delivering cutting-edge solutions designed to promote customer confidence along with operational efficiency. Aviation is big business, and TAT has leveraged its supporting role to build up a business that generated $152.1 million in revenues last year. In its most recent earnings report, covering 1Q25, TAT showed solid year-over-year growth in both revenue and earnings. The company had a top line of $42.1 million, up almost 24% from 1Q24, and the bottom line of 34 cents per share was up from 19 cents in the prior-year period. We should note that the company's revenue total just missed the forecast, coming in $450,000 below the estimates. On a more positive note, EPS trumped Street expectations by $0.04. For Truist's Michael Ciarmoli, an analyst ranked amongst the top 1% of Wall Street stock pros, the key points for investors here are TAT's solid potential for expansion and growth, and its favorable risk/reward profile. He writes, 'We view TATT as an under the radar small cap comm'l aero aftermarket component repair player poised to drive above market/peer avg growth through share gains and an improved go-to-market strategy. In the coming years as revenues grow and the company scales its operations we believe gross and EBITDA margin expansion will be a key driver of the stock. In the near-term mgmt's execution on its recent APU repair wins and corresponding share gains will be a major focus point. With the stock trading at a 20% discount to its closest peers on an EV/EBITDA basis we believe the risk/reward profile is favorably skewed.' The 5-star analyst goes on to put a Buy rating on this stock, complemented by a $35 price target that suggests a potential one-year upside of 32%. (To watch Ciarmoli's track record, click here) There are only two recent analyst reviews on file for TATT shares, but both are positive – giving the stock its Moderate Buy consensus rating. The shares are priced at $26.44 and their $35.50 average price target implies that the stock will gain 34% in the coming year. (See TATT stock forecast) Peloton Interactive (PTON) Next on our list is Peloton, the well-known home workout company that brought interactive social media to the world of home-based fitness. Peloton has updated an old stand-by – the stationary bicycle – with modern technology, including digital video connections. This forms the base for a connected, online exercise community, allowing Peloton's customers to find the advantages of group exercise classes in their own homes. Peloton leveraged its connectivity to great advantage several years ago, during the COVID pandemic, and has continued to use it as an important selling point that differentiates it from its competition. Peloton has built a community of 6 million members, making it one of the world's largest interactive fitness platforms, however its recent financial results weren't a particularly strong affair. In the last reported quarter, for fiscal 3Q25, the company saw a 13% year-over-year decline in sales. The revenue hit was strongest in the connected fitness segment, at 27%, but also included a 4% decline in subscription revenue. In total, Peloton's revenue came to $624 million. As noted, that was down 13% YoY – although the figure did beat the forecast by $2.67 million. The company's bottom line came to a net loss; the EPS of ($0.12) missed expectations – by 6 cents per share. The company has recognized the weaknesses and is actively working to address them. In January, Peloton launched its Personalized Plans programs and had enrolled 500,000 members by the end of its fiscal Q3 on March 31. Looking ahead to the end of fiscal year 2025, on June 30, Peloton expects to realize an adjusted EBITDA in the range of $330 million to $350 million and to bring in approximately $250 million in free cash flow. This stock has caught the attention of Truist analyst Youssef Squali, who believes that the headwinds have been priced in and that management will likely succeed in its plans to restart revenue and earnings growth. Squali says of Peloton, 'With the BS cleaned up and Opex materially cut to ensure sustainable FCF profitability, the new leadership is now squarely focused on improving the customer experience to drive revenue growth. Mgmt will guide to FY26 in early August, which is likely to be flattish, implying positive Y/Y revenue growth in 2H26, the first time since 2021. For F4Q25 (ending 6/30), our tracking of the Truist Card Data shows that revenue is tracking virtually in line with consensus (thru 6/9). With subscriptions accounting for ~2/3s of revenue, improving profitability and a valuation at 1.6x & 11.4x sales and AEBITDA, we believe that PTON is virtually de-risked with compelling upside.' Quantifying this stance, Squali rates PTON as a Buy, and his $11 price target points toward a hefty gain of 77% on the one-year horizon. (To watch Squali's track record, click here) Overall, Peloton holds a Moderate Buy consensus rating from Wall Street's analysts, based on 13 recent reviews that break down to 5 Buys and 8 Holds. The stock is currently trading for $6.22 and its $7.86 average price target suggests that the shares will gain 26% in the next 12 months. Israeli tech giant delays £300m City float as Iran conflict escalates

An Israeli technology business has delayed plans to list on the London Stock Exchange after escalating tensions in Iran rocked global markets. Waves, which specialises in audio software, is now hoping to float the business by October, having previously aimed for as early as this month. It marks a fresh setback for the beleaguered stock market, as the Tel Aviv-based company's planned £300m deal has been one of the few listings poised to take place in London. Bankers at Panmure Liberum are still working on the deal, although they have pushed back the completion date while market conditions remain challenging. Israel's conflict with Iran has also contributed to the decision, as geopolitical volatility has rattled traders around the world. Oil prices have surged in response to the conflict, while gold has edged close to a fresh record high as investors seek safe haven assets. Stock markets have largely shrugged off the war since the initial strikes carried out by Israel, but investors remain nervous about the prospect of US involvement. Waves, which was set up in 1992 and employs more than 200 people, sells its audio software technology globally. Details of its proposed listing first emerged this year, when it was reported that bosses were assembling a board that could smooth Waves's transition to a public company. Gavin Patterson, the former BT chairman, has been sounded out as a potential candidate to chair the business. Eventual completion of the deal will provide the Square Mile with a rare boost as it battles a dearth of new listings and an exodus of existing companies. Pressure on the London Stock Exchange has also intensified in recent weeks after a string of tech companies announced plans to leave the market or seek listings elsewhere. This includes British fintech champion Wise, which confirmed this month that it plans to move its main listing to New York. Charles Hall, of Peel Hunt, said this month: 'Urgent action is required if we want a healthy UK equity market that supports our listed companies and encourages the next generation of companies to list.' Last month, the US private equity billionaire Orlando Bravo also claimed the London stock market was in need of 'major' reforms to be able to compete internationally. Waves declined to comment. Billionaire Seth Klarman Holds Just 1 "Magnificent Seven" Stock in His Hedge Fund's Portfolio -- and He Just Bought More

Seth Klarman is a staunch proponent of value investing, but he remains flexible in that approach. The Magnificent Seven stocks are expensive as a group, with most of them trading at a P/E above 30. This stock has been held down by multiple challenges, but the price is too attractive to pass up. 10 stocks we like better than Alphabet › Seth Klarman is a well-respected value investor with a global following. And there's good reason for that. His Baupost Group hedge fund returned an average of 20% per year over the first 30 years of its existence. That performance comes despite value stocks falling well out of favor over the last decade. But Klarman and his team emphasize that they "remain flexible in their application" of value investing. That means investing in stocks that are mispriced relative to their value, even if they won't show up on any stock screeners for deep value based on traditional metrics. As a result, this method can end up with some stocks that many investors would consider growth stocks, such as those found in the Magnificent Seven. But Klarman only sees one member of the vaunted group of trillion-dollar stocks as worth his and his investors' money, and he just added more of it to Baupost's portfolio. The Magnificent Seven is a group of stocks full of interesting opportunities for the right investor. And anyone who invested in any or all of them is probably happy with their returns over the last couple of years. But a few may not present the value necessary for an investment from someone like Klarman. As a group, they're relatively expensive based on traditional valuation standards. Four of the seven sport forward P/E ratios above 30, including Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) with its 168 times multiple. While Tesla could prove worth the price with its plans for a robotaxi service and humanoid robots, there's a lot of risk in buying the stock at its current price, especially as its core car business is facing stiff competition abroad. The other high-priced members are growing quickly and on relatively solid footing, but it's hard to argue they're a bargain at their current prices. But one member of the group trades for a valuation below the S&P 500's average, and that's kind of surprising for a stock with such strong growth potential. The stock has consistently traded at or near the lowest valuation of the Magnificent Seven, giving investors plenty of opportunities. That's why Klarman and his team have built up a position in Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL), including adding 652,000 more shares in the first quarter, increasing its stake in the company by 46%. There are good reasons for Alphabet to trade at a lower valuation than the rest of the group. It carries some significant risks. The first big risk facing Alphabet is regulatory risk. The company faces several lawsuits in the U.S. and elsewhere that could result in interventions to reduce any monopolistic powers, particularly in web search and digital advertising. That could include things like selling its Chrome browser or its ad marketplace and ending agreements like its $20 billion per year traffic acquisition partnership with Apple. Despite those risks, the impact on Alphabet's operations could be muted given the strength of its brand and product. That's where the second risk comes in. Many see artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT eating into Google's dominance of web search. In a hearing last month, Apple's Senior VP for Services, Eddy Cue, suggested iPhone users are searching less in 2025 and spending more time in AI apps. However, the data from Alphabet doesn't support the narrative that it's losing significant share to AI. In fact, AI may be a boon to its search business thanks to three new features the company's introduced to leverage the power of large language models. Its AI Overviews (and now AI Mode) have led to increased user engagement and satisfaction, as users expand the search queries they send to Google. Importantly, management says it's able to monetize searches with AI Overviews at the same rate as searches without it. Two other AI-powered features driving search are circle-to-search and Google Lens, which have increased valuable product searches on Google. One piece of Alphabet's business that has seen very strong results without much regulatory threat is its Google Cloud platform. The cloud computing segment is seeing strong demand fueled by AI, which pushed its revenue 28% higher year over year in the first quarter. Moreover, its operating margin expanded to 17.8% from just 9.4% last year, and there's still significant upside from there. Alphabet is also home to "Other Bets," which includes the leading self-driving car company, Waymo. Waymo's made significant progress in its robotaxi business and remains years ahead of the next closest competitor. It now completes 250,000 paid trips per week, as of its most recent update at the start of May. As the market expands, Waymo could prove a significant growth driver for the company. All this is to say, the company as a whole should conservatively be able to produce double-digit revenue growth for the foreseeable future despite the regulatory and competitive challenges it faces. And as Google Cloud and Waymo scale, they should enable even faster earnings growth. At a forward P/E close to 18, Alphabet's stock looks like a bargain among the Magnificent Seven. It's no wonder Klarman and his team have continued to add shares around this price.
