Chiefs Star Tight End Travis Kelce Focuses on 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Kansas City Chiefs did not finish an already subpar 2025 the way they wanted, with a Super Bowl defeat.
The offense struggled much of last season, with Patrick Mahomes posting one of his worst statistical seasons on record. The same can be said of star tight end Travis Kelce, who finished with less than 1,000 yards receiving for just the fourth time in his career, and the second season in a row.

The seven-time All-Pro still made his 10th Pro Bowl, but it was with far fewer numbers than what he's used to producing.
Entering the final season of his contract, he's focused on the task at hand, another Super Bowl win, rather than what might come after his deal expires.
"I got one year on this contract, I know that," Kelce said to the media after minicamp practice on Wednesday. "We'll try and figure out something for next year. The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can't see myself playing ever anywhere else. We'll deal with that down the road when the time is right, but right now I'm focused on winning a championship this year."
Kelce has possible distractions that could take him away from the game – his podcast with his brother, his public life with Taylor Swift and his budding acting career.

But he knows where his passion is.
"I love football," Kelce said. "I didn't really think about it that much. My friends and family, the team, the guys and women in this building, I love coming into work every single day. It wasn't a very tough [decision] for me. I know I'm getting older, but at the same time, I still feel like I got a lot I can prove in this league. That being said, man, it wasn't really that hard of a decision for me."
There was a lot of speculation at the end of last season that Kelce would hang up his cleats in retirement at that time. But he didn't "feel" like he was done with football.
"I didn't feel like it was my last game. I just felt like I got a lot more to prove."

NY Giants Insider Drops Massive Abdul Carter Take

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Despite consistently showing love to the Philadelphia Eagles throughout the pre-draft process, New York Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter has fully embraced joining his hometown team's rival. As Carter gets settled in at New York's spring practices, the third-overall pick is turning heads and seemingly exceeding expectations. Funny enough, the bar was set super high for the 21-year-old as he left Penn State for the pros this year. Following mandatory minicamp, Giants insider Art Stapleton made a bold claim. The North Jersey beat writer took to social media to talk up Carter's showing at the team's spring sessions so far. "Hey you, get closer to your phone or laptop because I have a secret to share," Stapleton wrote. "Ready? You reading? Abdul Carter might be better than any of us thought. It's scary to admit for a team that has embodied Murphy's Law for a decade, but lean into it. He's different." It's certainly too early to guarantee Carter's offseason work in June will translate to the playing field come September, but nobody would be surprised if he lived up to the hype early. There's a reason why the Nittany Lions' standout was selected so high in the first round. Hey you, get closer to your phone or laptop because I have a secret to share ... You reading? Ready? He's different. #NYGiants — Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) June 19, 2025 During the 2022 NCAA season, Carter played in 13 games as a freshman. He registered 36 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and forced two fumbles. During his sophomore effort, Carter came up with 25 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Carter's junior season included 16 appearances. He collected 43 tackles, with 24 of them being for a loss. Carter led the Big 10 conference with that accomplishment. He also had a career-high 43 tackles and 12 sacks. Abdul Carter #51, New York Giants Abdul Carter #51, New York Giants Photo by/Newsweek/Getty Images Entering the NFL Draft, Carter was praised plenty for his speed as a pass rusher. Draft analyst Matt Miller noted that Carter's full-time venture at defensive end was "great" for his NFL future. "He has speed and burst off the snap, but he also has the power to move offensive tackles off their spots," Miller wrote for ESPN back in April. "And he's still learning how to be a full-time pass rusher, so there's upside." Despite struggling in 2024, the Giants view themselves as potential dark horse candidates in 2025. Drafting Carter was a move for the future, but he'll garner playing time off the bat. Based on the comments coming from Giants' minicamp, it seems Carter could be primed for a big year in New York. HC Mike Elko believes Texas A&M junior DL will 'fulfill his potential' in 2025

HC Mike Elko believes Texas A&M junior DL will 'fulfill his potential' in 2025 Texas A&M's defensive line depth became an immediate talking point early in the offseason, mainly due to the departures of Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner, who were all selected in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, after adding five defensive linemen from the transfer portal, including four edge rushers, interior defensive line depth remains an issue, putting pressure on the starting rotation to perform effectively. On Wednesday night, head coach Mike Elko spoke during the annual Dallas Coach's Night, previewing the 2025 season for what seems like the tenth time this year. Still, it has not yet become redundant, as the second-year leader had plenty to say regarding several players, including junior defensive tackle DJ Hicks. This is a critical season for the former five-star prospect, who was the crown jewel of Texas A&M's 2023 recruiting class, but has yet to live up to his high school production, mainly due to the depth in front of him during his first two seasons. Still, during his first season as a starting defensive tackle, Hicks recorded just 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. This offseason, Hicks has reportedly worked hard to build more strength in the weight room and work on his technique as a run defender, which, paired with senior nose tackle Albert Regis, needs to reach a level of consistency, as former Iowa State DL Tyler Onyedum is already a proven run defender who also brings notable pass rusher ability to the depth chart. Despite his lack of production, Elko is very high on DJ Hicks to take that next step and finally live up to his immense potetnial as "the guy" on the D-line. "I think DJ Hicks is probably that guy who is going to step into that limelight this year and fulfill his potential." This vote of confidence is a good sign knowing the amount of talent from the transfer portal, as Elko could have named any one of the new additions that have stood out, but remains steady that Hicks will become one of the defense's more reliable defenders. With just one year of eligibility remaining after this season, 2025 needs to be the year that Hicks shines.
