Saskatoon police release new video in homicide investigation

One year after 66-year-old Harvey Zoerb's death in a Fairhaven park, Saskatoon police have released a new video in a bid to gather information and identify the suspects responsible.
Releasing this type of video at this stage in an investigation is not common for police.
'We're hoping to gather some tips, some information, maybe some witnesses that we currently don't know exist, come forward, maybe some witnesses that we've already spoken to,' Sergeant Matt Ingrouille with the Saskatoon Police Service's homicide unit told CTV News.
The detective on the case says the video is being shared because the violent nature of the attack and the amount of blood involved mean police are hoping the footage might jog someone's memory.
'If anybody can think of somebody who mentioned seeing something, somebody having to change their clothes, blood-soaked clothes or wash their hands - having a sense of urgency,' he said.
The new video shared has footage from numerous security cameras in the area because there was a lot of activity that night and early morning.

Police are hopeful that somebody in one of those videos is key to figuring out who murdered the 66-year-old, who lived in a nearby group home because of a mental illness.
'I do think that it's reasonable for us to suspect that our person of interest or our suspects are somewhere contained in this video footage,' Ingrouille said.
The one area that didn't have cameras was the playground area, which the detective says could've made all the difference in finding who killed Zoerb.
The video also shows a drawing of the weapon found at the scene. It was a metal bar, which was taken to scientists at the Canadian Light Source at the University of Saskatchewan to analyze.
'Nothing is off the table. There is no technique that I am unwilling to try. We will do whatever it takes to try to solve this case.'
Meanwhile, the president of the Fairhaven Community Association admits once this crime is solved, the neighbourhood will be a little more at ease.
'I noticed the park is not being used anymore. There used to be kids in here all the time, and the ballparks over here are dead. They're probably the nicest ballparks in the city, and they're not being rented out,' Fred Graver said.
Since the video was released Tuesday night, Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) has received numerous calls about the case.

WAYNE, Mich. — A Michigan police chief said church staff stopped a man armed with a handgun and a long gun, averting a potential mass shooting at a church west of Detroit on Sunday morning. Chief Ryan Strong said parishioners at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne spotted the gunman driving recklessly and then saw him exit his vehicle wearing a tactical vest and carrying weapons. Kelly said a church member ran the suspect over with his truck, giving security staff time to shoot him. Police described the suspect as a 31-year-old white male. Police said one person was shot in the leg. The pastor said no one else was hurt and about 150 people were attending the service. Worshipper Wendy Bodin said she heard a loud 'boom' and when she looked outside she saw a man sprawled out on the grass in front of the church. 'I thought he got hit or crashed his car or was hurt,' Bodin told WXYZ-TV. 'And another lady saw and pointed to me and said 'oh my, call 911!'' Wayne Police Deputy Chief Finley Carter III said earlier Sunday that it was too early to know a motive. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino tweeted that bureau 'leadership and support teams' were at the scene and helping with the investigation. Messages left by The Associated Press on Sunday on voicemail and a Facebook page for the church were not immediately returned.

One dead, one hospitalized after stabbing in North York: police
Toronto police investigating after two people were stabbed in North York on Sunday June 22, 2025 (CP24 photo). A man has died after two people were reportedly stabbed near Wilson Ave. and Beverly Hills Dr. just after noon on Sunday. Police say officers responded to the area and located two victims with stab wounds. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The second victim was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims are men in their 50s, Acting Insp. Todd Jocko told reporters Sunday evening. 'Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, that male was sadly pronounced deceased at the hospital,' Jocko said. tps Police say a 70-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the incident. It's unclear what led up to the stabbing or what relationship the suspect may have had with the victims, but police say the investigation is ongoing. 'There is going to be an increased police presence here,' Jocko said. 'There is no ongoing threat to the public and no outstanding suspects at this time.' 1 dead, 1 injured in stabbing at homeless shelter in Toronto, 1 in custody
A man has died in hospital and another man was injured after being stabbed inside a North York shelter Sunday afternoon, Toronto police say. A man in 70s has been arrested in connection to the incident, said Acting Insp. Todd Jocko, duty senior officer for the Toronto Police Service. Both victims are in their 50s, Jocko said. The stabbing happened at the shelter located in the area of Wilson Avenue and Beverly Hills Drive. Police were called to the area shortly after noon. When officers arrived, they tried to save the life of one man who was in life-threatening condition, Jocko said. Toronto paramedics took both men to hospital. The one in life-threatening condition was pronounced dead there. The other man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries is still in hospital. "We understand that these incidents are alarming and concerning for people in the community. Please rest assured that we are dedicating all the necessary resources to this investigation," Jocko told reporters near the scene. Jocko said there is no threat to the public and there are no outstanding suspects in the stabbing. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Jocko said there will be an increased police presence in the area as officers continue to investigate.
