The suspected driver in the Liverpool parade crash has been described by shocked neighbours as a man from a nice family.
Residents in the calm and quiet cul-de-sac where the driver lives with his wife and three sons told the Mirror that the horror incident "just doesn't make sense". Authorities were granted more time to question the 53-year-old suspect from the West Derby area of the city after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug-driving.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the total number of injured has risen to 79, with seven still recovering from their wounds on Tuesday. The festivities marking Liverpool's Premier League triumph came to a harrowing end when a Ford Galaxy smashed into crowds in the city centre.
Terrifying footage depicted supporters being flung upwards, pulled under the wheels and pushchairs thrown along Water Street. As police guarded his £300,000 four-bedroom home, the suspect's name surfaced to the public. However, we have chosen to conceal his identity.
One neighbour said: "It seems completely out of character. They are such a nice family, the boys are really nice and well-behaved. [He] is a fantastic guy. He came over to help us when our alarm went off once, and then did the same for our immediate neighbours too.
"It just doesn't make sense. It doesn't feel right. They are lovely. The whole thing is so sad - for his wife and children and also for the people who were injured."
The suspect, a former director of two companies, can be seen in affectionate photos on social media, enjoying family holidays abroad and social gatherings. Another neighbour shared their shock when they saw police swarm their peaceful cul-de-sac on Monday. The individual had joked about a neighbour being the suspect, only to be horrified when he was indeed arrested.

They added: "We turned in and there were three or four police cars at the top of our road and we just said, 'Oh my God, imagine if he is on our road' and that was it and now we are like, 'S***.'"
Police are expected to charge the suspect soon. The force has not disclosed what drugs they suspect the driver had consumed. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson provided an update on Wednesday, saying: "I'm pleased to say that the number of people in hospital is reducing as they continue to recover from the awful incident.
"We continue to support those still receiving treatment and as part of our ongoing enquiries we are identifying more people who were injured. I want to reassure the public of Merseyside that detectives are making significant progress as we seek to establish the full circumstances that led to what happened."

Among the injured was new father Daniel Eveson, who feared his family were "going to die" when his son's pram was dragged 15ft in the chaos. The shaken father said that the driver was screaming and "delirious" after fans pulled him from behind the wheel to prevent him from causing further harm.
Daniel said: "He was just screaming, 'Get off, get away.' He seemed delirious. He just seemed like he didn't know where he was. It's a miracle that no one lost their lives."
The 36-year-old from Telford, Shropshire, added that it was nothing short of a "miracle" that his family survived. He has now dubbed his five-month-old baby boy 'Super Ted' after he escaped completely unscathed.

"He's our miracle. He's 'Super Ted'. I keep crying every time I hold him. I'm overwhelmed with relief that we've still got him, he didn't even break a finger," Daniel shared.
Daniel revealed that his 36-year-old fiancée, Sheree Aldridge, is also "on the mend" after the car ran over her leg, causing muscle and tissue damage and lacerations. He added: "I basically held the pram but the pram got taken out of my hands and my hands went on the bonnet to try and stop the car.

"Then Sheree went up on the bonnet and then dropped off and then went under it. I looked to my side to see her and she just wasn't there," he said, before breaking down in tears and adding: "Oh my God, it was just horrible. I just want justice."

17 females were "victims of syringe injections" at the music festival. Around 17 young girls and women have been rushed to hospital after they were allegedly pricked by a man with a syringe while at an event in France. It's thought more than 50,000 people were in attendance at the festival in Metz on Saturday evening as revellers celebrated World Music Day. ‌ According to Le Républicain Lorrain, during the Fête de la Musique 17 females were " victims of syringe injections". ‌ The local outlet says that the victims - believed to be aged between 14 and 20 - were targeted by one or more people at around 10pm. François Grosdidier, the mayor of Metz, confirmed that firefighters took the victims into care and they were rushed to hospital for tests. The mayor added: "It's Saturday night and it's still hot… There are a lot of people, people everywhere, in all the city centre streets." Mr Grosdidier estimated that there were around 50,000 people at the festival. As reported by the Mirror, the alleged attacks happened between Place de la République and Place Saint-Jacques, two popular spots in Metz's city centre. One man has been arrested in connection with the attacks. He was taken to a local police station and questioned by cops. No update has been provided on the girls' conditions. Police remained in Metz throughout the remainder of the event with pictures taken at the scene showing Mr Grosdidier speaking to officers. ‌ It comes after a French teaching assistant was allegedly stabbed to death by a pupil earlier this month. Named only as Melanie G, the single mum died on June 10 and had only started work as a teacher at the Françoise Dolto secondary school, in Nogent-sur-Marne, in the eastern Paris suburbs, last year. The mum suffered multiple stab wounds to her body during a 'senseless' attack minutes before classes began. It is alleged the teaching assistant was searching children's bags for knives, in line with national education policy, when she was fatally attacked. ‌ A 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the killing and was later charged with "murder of a person in a position of authority". As a minor, the suspect faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison instead of life imprisonment. In April, a knife attack at Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides private school in the Doulon area of Nantes, France caused the death of one teenager and left three others injured. The 15-year-old attacker was reportedly stopped attacking additional students by teachers, who bravely overpowered the armed boy. French prime minister, François Bayrou, called for a crackdown on teenage knife crime following the attack. 'This tragedy shows once again the endemic violence that exists in a part of our youth,' Bayrou said in a statement. 'Fundamental questions must be asked in terms of education, values and respect for human life.'

In a heartfelt statement, the force said: "We extend our thoughts and prayers to PC Minett's family, friends, and colleagues, and we ask that his family are given privacy at this difficult time." ‌ The force's deputy chief constable Katy Barrow-Grint added: "Gloucestershire Constabulary is saddened about the death of PC Ian Minett whilst on duty yesterday morning (Saturday 21 June). PC Minett was a much loved and respected colleague who worked as a response officer and also served with the Constabulary for many years as a Special Constable. ‌ "At this point the cause of PC Minett's death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious and his family are being supported at this very difficult time. The clash ended in a goalless draw, but the result saw MC Alger clinch the league title, prompting huge celebrations in the stands. ‌ However, these scenes turned into a picture of horror, as reports from local sources claimed a security barrier gave way causing numerous individuals to fall from the top tier of the stadium. ‌ Footage from El Heddaf TV appears to show a section of railing that ended up collapsing onto the lower tier of the stadium as the tragedy unfolded. The Algerian Ministry of Health released a statement that said: "The Beni Messous University Hospital received 38 injured people, while three deaths were recorded. Ben Aknoun Hospital also received 27 injured people, while Bab El Oued Hospital received 16." In an act of solidarity, members of MC Alger went to local hospitals offering blood donations for the injured. Additionally, the club confirmed the identity of one supporter who was killed, writing: "It is with great sadness and sorrow and with hearts that we received the news of our supporter Younes Amguzzi, who passed away after falling from the upper stands. May God have mercy on him and grant him a place in his vast paradise. "We offer our condolences to his family, his fellow supporters and the MC Alger team. I pray for the recovery of those injured in the incident and their swift return to their loved ones." The stadium, named in honour of Algeria's declaration of independence in July 1962, once held a staggering 110,000 spectators during an international friendly match between Algeria and Serbia in 2010. However, due to the enforcement of modern safety standards in football, the capacity has been downsized to 64,200. Before this unfortunate incident, there were plans underway to safely increase the stadium's capacity back up to 80,000.
