Congress demands disciplinary action against BJP legislators
Bengaluru: A delegation of Congress MLCs on Monday met legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horrati, seeking disciplinary action against BJP legislators N Ravi Kumar and Chaluvadhi Narayanswamy for their "intolerant", "communal", and "defamatory" statements.
While Kumar, BJP's chief whip in the council, allegedly described Kalaburagi deputy commissioner Fauzia Tarranum as being from "Pakistan", opposition leader Narayanswamy reportedly equated IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge to a "dog". The Congress delegation, led by the party's chief whip in the council, Saleem Ahmed, alleged that both BJP MLCs need to be condemned in the House and have disciplinary action initiated against them.
The delegation claimed that any action initiated against Kumar should serve as an example that such utterances will not be tolerated in the future and that public servants should not be working under any fear.
"We appeal to you to take exemplary steps and seek appropriate action to ensure that Karnataka remains a bastion of secular, inclusive, and impartial public administration," read the memorandum to the council chairman.

The legislators also alleged that Narayanswamy's statement was not only insulting Kharge but also the Dalit community of Karnataka. "It seems that Narayanswamy, who belongs to a scheduled caste himself, is making these hateful statements against Kharge at the behest of some vested interests to retain his public office," read the memorandum.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India] June 22 (ANI): Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Bhrugu Baxipatra has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- led government for its performance in Odisha during its first year, claiming that the state has not received any substantial benefits. Speaking to the ANI, Baxipatra highlighted that the grant allocated to Odisha has decreased compared to the previous year. He also claimed that several major schemes, including the PM Awas Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission, have been allocated zero funds. 'One year has been completed, but Odisha received no benefits... The grant that Odisha had to get decreased since last year... Multiple schemes have zero money like PM Awas Yojna, Jal Jeevan Mission...', Baxipatra said on Saturday. The BJD leader also expressed concern over the rising incidents of crimes against women and children in the state, with 15 rapes reported daily and over 26,000 FIRs filed in the past year. 'In the last year, Odisha has topped in atrocities on women and children. 15 rapes are happening each day and 26 to 28 thousand FIRs have been filed,' he added. Further, the BJD leader also expressed concern over the state's health crisis, citing the deaths of over 100 people from cholera and diarrhoea. He claimed that investment in the state has come to a standstill, with a significant drop from Rs 37,000 crores last year to just Rs 40 crores this year. Baxipatra also criticised the BJP government's vision for the state. 'Over 100 people have died from Cholera and Diarrhoea in the state... Investment has stopped - investment of Rs 37,000 crores came in last year, while not even Rs 40 crore was received this year, and Jharkhand has surpassed us in this... We worry that the truth of the state is not somehow reaching the Prime Minister.', Baxipatra stated. The BJD leader slammed the BJP government, saying it lacks vision. 'Odisha has witnessed 16% growth under Naveen Patnaik and according to the present vision document, there will be only 9% growth in 2036 when the state completes 100 years. The government has no vision, it does not know how to function, has no experience in administration and it is not ready to learn... They should take a tutorial class to run this government,' he said. Earlier, it was announced that in the absence of former Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik, the duties of the party office will be managed by its Political Affairs Committee. Additionally, Debi Prasad Mishra, Senior Vice President, Headquarters, will oversee the coordination of activities and programmes. The former CM has announced that he will undergo a medical procedure for cervical arthritis in Mumbai. In an office order issued on Wednesday, Patnaik stated that during his absence, the day-to-day affairs of the BJD will be managed by the party's Political Affairs Committee. Vaishali (Bihar) [India], June 22 (ANI): Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, and the Congress, accusing them of failing to bring meaningful change to the state over decades. Addressing a 'Bihar Badlav Rally' in Vaishali, Kishor said, 'For 40-45 years you voted for Congress, then you voted for Lalu Yadav for 15 years. For the last 20 years, Nitish Kumar has been the CM... But the life of the people of Vaishali has not been you vote as I will tell you, then proper arrangements for your children's education and employment will be made here in Vaishali itself...' Criticising what he described as opportunistic voting patterns, Kishor asked the crowd, 'In Vaishali and the whole of Bihar, many people voted for Modi ji and the BJP out of greed for 5kg of grains. They are stealing 1kg of rice, and people are receiving only 4kg, right or wrong?' He also condemned communal narratives in politics, saying, 'People voted in the name of said first Ram Temple should be built in Ayodhya, but you did not get Indira Awas, school-colleges, no factories were installed in Hajipur, Vaishali, but Ram Temple was built with the help of your votes.' Earlier, at a rally in Samastipur, Kishor promised a livelihood opportunity for all within a year of forming the government. 'This is going to be the last Diwali and Chhath of misery in Bihar. After Chhath, when the people's rule is established, the streets and drains may or may not be built, schools and hospitals may not improve, and all the members of your family who have gone out to work, as well as the children who are currently unemployed, may or may not get government jobs. Panama cuts internet, cell phones in restive province
Panama City: Panamanian authorities on Saturday partially suspended internet and mobile phone service in a western province where a state of emergency was in effect after two months of anti-government unrest. Right-wing President Jose Raul Mulino declared the emergency on Friday, suspending freedom of assembly and movement in Bocas del Toro province, where protesters have set up roadblocks and damaged the airport, businesses and offices. The National Authority for Public Services said on X that based on the emergency decree, "the temporary suspension of mobile phone and residential internet service has been coordinated in the province of Bocas del Toro until June 25." Internet service would remain available for health care, businesses and government entities, the agency said. Anti-government protests began almost two months ago in the major banana-producing region of Bocas del Toro. They turned violent Thursday in the city of Changuinola when groups of hooded individuals looted businesses and partially set fire to a baseball stadium with police officers inside, authorities said. The unrest has seen one dead, more than 100 arrested, and dozens injured, including 13 police officers, according to authorities. Mulino has been facing protests on several fronts in recent months. Workers with US banana giant Chiquita in Bocas del Toro went on strike in late April over pension reforms adopted by Congress, which critics say will force them to work longer. Chiquita sacked thousands of workers over the strike. The banana growers' unions called off their protest last week in a bid to reverse the layoffs but other groups have remained at the barricades. Besides the pension reforms, Panamanians have also been in the streets over a deal Mulino struck with US President Donald Trump in April allowing US troops to deploy to Panamanian bases along the Panama Canal. The US Embassy in Panama issued a security alert Friday prohibiting American government staffers from traveling to Bocas del Toro "until further notice."
