Dubai Number Plate Fetches $2.27mn at Weekend Auction
A premium number plate sold for AED8.35 million during a public auction in Dubai on Saturday evening.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) organised the event, which generated approximately AED100 million in total revenue.
The top-selling plate, CC22, commanded the highest price at the auction.

Premium Dubai licence plates generate AED100 million in weekend sale
Number plate BB20 achieved the second-highest bid at AED7 million, while BB19 sold for AED6.68 million. The AA707 plate reached a price of AED3.31 million.
Another notable sale was AA222, which fetched AED3.3 million.
Participants were required to provide a security cheque deposit of AED25,000 to enter the bidding process.
'[The auction] set a new all-time record, generating about AED 100 million in proceeds, the highest ever achieved in RTA number plate auction history,' RTA said via X.
This latest auction follows the trend of premium number plates commanding multi-million dirham prices in the emirate, reflecting their status as investment assets for many buyers.
Last month, Dubai real estate Roads and Transport AuthorityMuhammad Binghatti paid AED35 million for a DD number plate.

WeRide, which already launched robotaxis in Abu Dhabi in 2021, now deepens its presence in the UAE with this Dubai pilot. Baidu, meanwhile, is preparing its debut via its autonomous ride-hailing platform Apollo Go, which has already logged more than 150 million kilometers of autonomous driving in China. This marks Dubai as a key international hub for AV expansion beyond East Asia, North America, and Europe. UAE Implements Licensing Rule for Social Media Influencers and Content Creators
Social media influencers and content creators in the UAE must now obtain a business license before applying for a media license, under new regulations rolled out by the UAE Media Council. This update marks a significant change in how digital media activities are managed in the country. UAE Exempts 222 Citizens From $39mn in Debts
The UAE's Defaulted Debts Settlement Fund has exempted 222 citizens from debts totalling more than AED 139.879 million, following directives from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The initiative, which operates under the supervision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, targets retirees and social support categories. The Fund cleared debts exceeding AED 86.476 million for 132 retirees, whilst exempting 90 citizens under the social support category from debts totalling more than AED 53.403 million. 'The initiative reflects the wise leadership's vision to ease the lives of citizens and ensure them a dignified and stable standard of living,' the Emirates News Agency (WAM) said in a statement. The programme contributes to social development by alleviating financial burdens, supporting retirees and social support beneficiaries, and fostering family stability, according to the statement. The initiative aligns with the UAE's national strategy for sustainable development and demonstrates commitment to social cohesion and prosperity, with attention focused on those who served the country and the community's most vulnerable members. The Fund emphasised that the programme embodies President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's commitment to alleviating financial burdens on citizens.
