TRAI releases Tariff Order for retail broadband connectivity for Public Data Offices under the PM-WANI Scheme

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released the Telecommunication Tariff (71st Amendment) Order, 2025, on Tariff for retail broadband connectivity for Public Data Offices (PDOs) under the PM-WANI Scheme. To ensure a balanced and inclusive approach, TRAI prescribes the following tariff framework for the PM-WANI Scheme: "Every service provider providing retail Fiber to the Home (FTTH) broadband services shall offer all of its retail FTTH broadband plans upto 200 Mbps to the PDOs under the PM-WANI scheme, at tariff not exceeding twice the tariff applicable to the retail subscribers for the corresponding FTTH broadband plan of the bandwidth (capacity) offered."
This pricing framework has been designed to appropriately balance the interests of all stakeholders by ensuring affordability for small-scale Public Data Offices (PDOs) while also providing reasonable compensation for the broadband connection to the service providers. The proposed tariff framework takes into account prevailing market scenario, current levels of adoption of PM-WANI services, as well as potential future growth. By aligning with these considerations, the framework aims to facilitate the orderly, sustainable, and inclusive growth of the public Wi-Fi ecosystem under the PM-WANI initiative.

Rs 264 crore to be spent for more new 30 schools: Tripura CM Saha

Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 23 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Sunday that the state has already started adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in every sector and informed that 30 new schools will be set up with an expenditure of Rs 264 crore. While addressing a felicitation programme for secondary and HS passed students under Ramnagar Mandal, CM Saha said that during examinations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducts Pariksha Pe Charcha, where he emphasises how to remain stress-free during exams. 'The way he gives direction and speaks -- following the same approach, we also interact with students and share insights with them. As a result, we have seen a significant reduction in stress levels. The work of PM Modi will be scripted in golden letters in history, and someday, research will also be conducted on it,' he said. CM Saha, who is also the education minister, said that AI has already been introduced to the state in this digital era. 'Students have to depend on themselves and keep learning. Through yoga, one can understand oneself. Especially if students practise yoga, it will be highly beneficial. We must engage in exercise so that our minds remain sharp. When PM Modi came, he began reviving ancient practices that were once well-known in India. I have seen many medical students working in the health sector doing exceptionally well, even attending the OT using AI. Earlier, we relied solely on textbooks, but now smart classes are available. The youth of our state are brilliant and should not leave the country. As PM Modi says -- those who have knowledge will run the country, and there is no limit to knowledge,' he said. He added that the Education Department has taken several steps, including the introduction of the NCERT curriculum, Super 30, and others. Bicycles have also been distributed to girl students. Around 44 schools have received new buildings. 'In the 2024-25 financial year, infrastructure development in around 350 schools will be carried out with an expenditure of Rs 80 crore. In 2025-26, another 30 new schools will be set up, and Rs 264 crore will be spent', he added. (ANI)

Build PMAY Schemes With 1,000 Flats In Each Of 6 Constituencies, Says CM

Nagpur: In a major milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Sunday handed over possession of 480 flats to economically weaker section (EWS) beneficiaries under the project Swapniketan, located at Mouza Wanjara. The symbolic key was handed over by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis , along with guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and minister of state Ashish Jaiswal. Addressing the gathering, CM Fadnavis congratulated the new homeowners and praised the quality of construction undertaken by NMC. "The same quality flat is being sold for Rs18 lakh in the adjacent scheme, but citizens are getting the flat under PMAY for Rs9 lakh," said Fadnavis. He also proposed that similar PMAY buildings — with at least 1,000 flats — should be developed in each of Nagpur's six assembly constituencies to ensure accessible housing for all. "PM Modi has already provided funds for building 30 lakh houses in the state this year. Out of the 12 crore population of Maharashtra, over 1.5 crore will be able to live in their own homes thanks to PM Modi," said Fadnavis. Stressing Nagpur's place among India's green cities, he encouraged citizens to reduce private vehicle usage and make greater use of the eco-friendly electric bus service made available by the city administration. "Steps are being taken so that the private vehicle usage is reduced in the city and people should use public transport. In the future, Metro and E-bus services will be provided within 300m to 500m distance from any person's home, especially in suburbs," said Fadnavis. Micro foundries in Coimbatore seek exemption from BIS quality control order

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Tiny & Small Foundry Owners Association (COSMAFAN) has urged the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to exempt micro foundries from the recently enforced quality control order on grey iron castings under IS 210:2009, citing operational and financial constraints. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a representation to Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, the association, which comprises around 400 micro and small foundries in and around Coimbatore, stated that the implementation of the Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023, is proving to be burdensome for micro units, especially those dependent on traditional cupola furnaces and low-volume production. COSMAFAN pointed out that over 90% of its members use cupola furnaces while the rest operate small induction furnaces with a capacity of 150kg. The average production per unit is less than 50 tonnes of grey iron castings per month, mainly catering to the local market for wet grinders, motors, pumps, and small textile machinery. "With such low volumes and wafer-thin margins, compliance with the quality order would increase operational costs significantly, especially for testing and BIS marking," the letter stated. The association estimated that compliance costs, including testing and marking fees, could amount to 2.5% to 3.5% of the selling price — roughly ₹2 to ₹3 per kg — which is unsustainable for small-scale units. "Already, 40% of micro foundries have shut shops due to financial stress. If the QCO is made mandatory without exemption, we fear that many more will follow," the association cautioned. Citing the vital role of micro foundries in the broader engineering ecosystem, COSMAFAN has requested BIS to consider an exemption or suitable amendment to the order to safeguard the survival of these small units.
