The 2026 Nissan Leaf barely looks related to the 2025 model it's replacing. While the outgoing Leaf's hatchback design was fine and inoffensive, the new version's crossover body does an exceptional job with the challenge of being appealing and distinctive without looking gimmicky or quickly dated. Pricing is TBA, but the projected max range of over 300 miles is encouraging.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this new Leaf is the prettiest car of the '20s. But this is the most dramatic and graceful generation-to-generation design evolution I've seen this decade so far. The aquamarine paint in these launch photos is doing a bit of lifting to make the car pop (Nissan calls it Seabreeze Blue Pearl), but the general shape and detail work look great. I see a little Prius-plus-Model-Y if I look at it with blurred eyes. And the vaguely Nissan Z-style taillights with a wide 'N-I-S-S-A-N' emblem floating between them give the back an almost retrofuturistic flair.
Under the skin is a simple but not minimalist cockpit layout, what looks like a lot of headroom, and 55.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats. The new Leaf's two main party tricks are an optional dimmable panoramic roof—pretty wild to see in a relatively low-end get-around car—and a battery heating program to make winter driving easier. A 214-horsepower electric motor provides propulsion, fed by a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. A 174-hp motor and 52-kWh battery pack will come out later at a lower price. That's the same peak horsepower we had in the 2025 Leaf, but considerably better battery specs. The 2025 Leaf's SV model had 214 hp and a 60 kWh battery, while the outgoing base S model had 147 hp and 40 kWh.
There will be four Leaf trim levels, with range estimates breaking down like this:

The S model weighs 3,955 pounds, while the heaviest Platinum Plus is 4,369 pounds. All the Leaf body styles are the same tall crossover coupe shape, 14.45 feet long with a 35.4-foot curb-to-curb turning diameter. The 2026 Leaf has a J1772 charge port on the driver-side fender for Level 2 chargers and a NACS fast charge port on the passenger side for use with Tesla Superchargers. That's an unusual configuration—I'm surprised to see no mention of a CSS charger in Nissan's press material, since those are usually the public fast-charging connections I've seen out and about.
The car can charge at up to 150 kWh. Practically speaking, that should mean it can quick charge from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes at a Level 3 charger.
As for the winter battery-care provisions I mentioned earlier—Nissan's explained that the battery 'sealed by a resin cover beneath the vehicle, helping keep cold air, snow and slush,' and that the car 'also now captures wasted heat from the drive motor and the on-board charger … and re-purposes that heat to help warm the battery to its ideal temperature range.' The vehicle also has an 'energy-efficient' heat pump to warm the cabin and an optional battery heater for very cold environments.
For driver connectivity, the Leaf will have Google functionality built in and Nissan Safety Shield 360 as standard, which means all '26 Leafs (Leaves?) will have auto emergency braking (front and rear), auto high beams (such an underrated feature), lane departure warning, blind spot warnings, and cross-traffic alert for when you're backing up blind. This new Leaf is scheduled to hit dealerships this fall, so I'd expect pricing to be announced within the next few months. The outgoing 2025 Leaf ranged from about $28,000 to $37,000, so the '26 will definitely be more than that. I'm guessing low to high 30s with the top model passing the $40k mark. But you can count on it remaining below the larger Ariya EV, which lists between about $40,000 and $55,000 for 2025.
I won't go so far as to say 'this car could save Nissan,' but it should put the Leaf on a lot more people's radar. Nissan

After 15 Years, the 2026 Nissan Leaf Is Finally Cool

(Sorry, I had to do it.) The 2026 version is unrecognizable from its predecessor, and it hits US dealers this fall. The 15-year-old hatchback is now more "SUV-like," as Nissan describes it. It has a solid 303-mile range, a Tesla-backed NACS port for Supercharging, dual 14.3-inch displays, and an available panoramic roof. "We have completely reconstructed the values of the next-generation Leaf," says Tase Nobutaka, program design director at Nissan. "We made it simple and clean, yet with a more energetic feeling. We ensured the all-new Leaf has a dynamic shape, testing it time and time again to reach our ambitious aerodynamic targets." It has not one but two charge ports, a unique strategy that gives drivers more options. It has a Level 2 port (J1772) on the driver's side for home charging. A second port on the passenger's side will work at Tesla Superchargers, which are only found in public and charge at a much faster rate. "The combination of J1772 for AC charging and NACS for DC charging provides our customers with access to the largest number of chargers," a Nissan spokesperson tells us. "Because there was not much time between signing Nissan's agreement with [Tesla for] NACS and when Leaf production began, we chose to move forward with dual ports in order to deliver the most abundant charging options possible (within that rather tight timeframe). We will, of course, continue to adjust for future models." The 2026 Leaf is the first Nissan to have sleek, "motorized flush front door handles" and is the first in its class to have a dimmable panoramic roof, Nissan says, though that one will almost certainly require an upgrade. The car comes in a range of "bold color choices" to complete its transformation from an old standby to a fashion-forward option. It's compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, and has four USB-C ports sprinkled throughout. We've been speculating about the death of the Leaf as we know it since 2023, and it's great to see that Nissan revived it instead. The beloved car may have been among the first to popularize EVs, but hasn't kept up with modern design or technology trends. Case in point: It still has an outdated CHAdeMO charge port. But importantly, it's been the only electric car on the market below $30,000. We don't know the price of the new Leaf, but all signs point to it being above $30,000. The goal is to bring it up to modern standards, which includes pricey upgrades like sensors and cameras to enable self-driving assistive software. The new Leaf "represents the best of Nissan EV technology," Nissan says. It'll be hard to upstage the Nissan Ariya, however, which has all the modern technology—even an optional camera feed rear-view mirror. Nissan may have decided that deeper-pocketed customers are more likely to buy an EV, but we'll see how the final price looks in a few months. One nugget in Nissan's announcement hints that a cheaper version is on the way. A smaller battery pack option (52kWh compared to 75kWh) arrives in spring 2026. That's slightly larger than the 40kWh pack on the Leaf today. It will also have less horsepower (175hp compared to 214), giving "EV drivers a choice in the amount of driving range and value they desire," Nissan says.

Nissan Rogue Generations Overview: How It Became The Top-Selling Nissan

Many years after Honda and Toyota established their grip on the compact crossover segment with the CR-V and RAV4, Nissan arrived on the scene with the Rogue. Like those crossovers, the Rogue aimed to be a little bit of everything to buyers: Cheap enough, practical enough, and with a bit more rough-road capability than a sedan or hatchback. Over three generations, the Rogue has gone on to become Nissan's best-selling model in the United States; only the Sentra is anywhere close to it in 2025 so far. Here's an overview of each Rogue generation and how the crossover has changed through the years. This Nissan Rogue's model years were from 2008 to 2013, after going on sale in 2007. It had slightly oddball styling from the front, even after a mid-cycle refresh for 2011. Power comes from a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, with front-wheel drive being standard and all-wheel drive an option. From the Nissan Rogue's first year, all models used a CVT, and this has generally been one of the Rogue's weak points. Not only did the CVT create a noisy, unrefined driving experience, but this transmission was unreliable, even leading to a class-action lawsuit filed against the brand. If you're willing to live with the CVT and keep up with maintenance, the rest of the Rogue package is pleasant enough. Efficiency was good, crash-safety scores were high, and the Rogue was practical enough. It's a pity that this model was held back by a lackluster powertrain. Nissan managed to free up enough space for an optional third row, something that set apart the T32 from most rivals, although it could only offer up 31.4 inches of legroom in this back row. The company persisted with its CVT transmission and the same 170-hp four-cylinder engine, so there was no improvement in performance. Reliability remained an issue with the CVT, so much so that Nissan extended the warranty on second-gen Rogues, but that was merely a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. For the 2017 model year, the Rogue gained a hybrid model with 176 hp - it returned up to 34 mpg combined, as opposed to the non-hybrid model's 29 mpg. Overall, the second-gen Rogue was more practical but continued to be let down by sluggish acceleration and CVT issues. Despite this, Rogue sales in the USA reached over 400,000 annual units in 2017 and 2018, the last time it achieved this level of sales success. Inside and out, this is a big leap forward, with the T33 boasting the smartest of all Nissan Rogue body styles and a plush interior, especially on top trims, which get features like quilted leather upholstery. Initially, Nissan stuck with its 2.5L four-pot with 181 hp, but this was soon replaced by an all-new 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine. This smaller mill had variable compression technology, allowing for a better balance of power and economy. Its 201 hp and 225 lb-ft were better than before, and FWD models can achieve 33 mpg combined. Unfortunately, Nissan continued to stick with a CVT, spoiling the driving experience. In December 2013, an investigation into engine failure was also opened, concerning the 1.5-liter unit, continuing a theme of powertrain maladies that have affected all generations of the Rogue. We do know that a new Rogue Hybrid is on the way, and this will fill a major gap in the Rogue lineup, since the RAV4 and CR-V both have more powerful hybrid options. We only hope this model achieves the performance, refinement, and reliability to match the many strong attributes of the T33.
