Petronas LNG, JOGMEC partner to boost Japan's energy security, LNG supply

KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) subsidiary Petronas LNG Sdn Bhd (PLSB) has partnered with Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) to explore strategic bilateral arrangements in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
In a statement today, Petronas said the collaboration aims to broaden their cooperation framework, focusing on long-term LNG supply initiatives.
The partnership will also facilitate discussions on enhancing Japan's energy security, including strategies to ensure stable supply and mitigate potential disruptions.
The memorandum of cooperation (MoC) was signed by Petronas vice president of LNG Marketing & Trading Shamsairi Mohd Ibrahim and JOGMEC executive vice president of energy business Hiroyuki Mori during the Energy Asia 2025 conference held recently in Kuala Lumpur.
Shamsairi said the MoC underscores Petronas' role as a trusted and consistent LNG supplier to the country since 1983 and the group takes pride in its long-standing partnership with Japan.
"This partnership is especially timely, aligning with the momentum of Energy Asia, where regional collaboration and strengthening the region's energy security were at the forefront of the dialogues," he added.

Setel chief executive officer Abdullah Ayman Awaluddin said, 'This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to scale Setel's platform through ecosystem integration that delivers meaningful impact. TNG Digital chief executive officer Alan Ni said, 'This partnership with Setel supports our goal of integrating practical, everyday services into the lives of our users. 'Fuel payments are a regular routine for many individuals and this collaboration makes the process faster and more accessible, while creating new touchpoints within PETRONAS' nationwide network. 'We actively encourage partnerships that not only enhance convenience for users, but also give our partners the opportunity to reach a wider, digitally engaged audience.' To mark the launch, a limited-time promotion will reward the first 50,000 eligible transactions made through the TNG eWallet mini programme with RM5 worth of Mesra Rewards points. This applies to new users of Setel and Mesra Rewards, as well as existing Mesra users linking their ID to Setel for the first time. Additionally, users will also earn TNG eWallet's GOrewards points for each transaction made through the mini programme (terms and conditions apply). Beyond the immediate rewards, this partnership reflects Setel and TNG Digital's shared ambition to make everyday mobility smarter and more rewarding – merging fuel, payments and loyalty into one integrated experience for Malaysian motorists.

Sabah charts green energy path at Energy Asia 2025

Published on: Monday, June 23, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 23, 2025 Text Size: Abdul Nasser speaks at the event. KUALA LUMPUR: The Energy Commission of Sabah (Ecos) presented the state's energy transition roadmap at the recent Energy Asia 2025 conference, outlining key goals under the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040). Ecos CEO Datuk Abdul Nasser bin Abdul Wahid joined national energy leaders on a panel discussing Malaysia's sustainable growth and detailed Sabah's target of achieving 80 per cent renewable energy by 2050, up from its current 80 per cent gas dependence. Sabah's plans include Southeast Asia's largest Battery Energy Storage System (Bess) in Lahad Datu, operational by July 2025, alongside other projects to ensure a 25 per cent reserve margin by Q3 2025. Ecos, empowered by recent State energy laws, is also pushing for universal rural electrification, carbon neutrality by 2050, and improved reliability through strategic power plant development and interconnection with Sarawak. Despite tariff pressures and subsidy burdens, Nasser said Sabah remains committed to a just and inclusive energy transition, supported by investor-friendly policies and accelerating rural electrification efforts. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
