Little-known rule could land motorists £5,000 for driving in the rain
Drivers have been issued a £5,000 warning for when they're driving in the rain.
Heading out in wet conditions is never ideal. But it's an unavoidable part of living in the UK.
That being said, the rain can cause slippery and hazardous conditions. That means accidents can become more likely and drivers must be extra careful.

But the £5,000 warning does not relate to common driving issues such as speeding or tailgating.
Instead, it relates to puddles on the road. Driving through puddles to splash pedestrians can actually be considered breaking the law.
It's considered a public nuisance and is classified as careless and inconsiderate driving, falling under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
The law was highlighted by number plates website Show Plates World.
The company reached out to a former police officer, Pete Nelson, 48, who spent nearly two decades in the role.
Pete said: "As a police officer, we always took this kind of careless driving seriously.
"While it might seem like a small thing, deliberately splashing someone could cause them to fall or even get hit by another vehicle.
"It's a simple mistake that can lead to bigger consequences."
A spokesperson from Show Plates World added: "As weather conditions change, drivers need to adjust their behaviour.
"It's easy to get caught up in the frustration of rainy days, but no matter how tempting, it's crucial not to drive through puddles with the intent to splash pedestrians.
"It's inconsiderate and it's illegal.
"Slow down, stay cautious, and protect yourself from unnecessary fines and points on your licence."

Dartford Crossing charge will rise in September, minister says
The charge motorists pay to use the Dartford Crossing will increase in September, a minister has said. Used by an average of more than 150,000 vehicles a day, the crossing is made up of a bridge and two tunnels and connects Thurrock in Essex with Dartford in Kent. Lilian Greenwood, Parliamentary under-Secretary at the Department for Transport, said in a statement on Tuesday that the existing one-off payment for cars, motorhomes and small minibuses of £2.50 will be increased to £3.50 from September 1 to 'manage traffic'. Charges were first introduced in 2003 and prices have not increased since 2014, the minister said. With up to 180,000 vehicles using the crossing on the busiest days, Ms Greenwood described the traffic levels as 'well in excess of the crossing's design capacity, causing delays for drivers using the crossing, congestion and journey disruption to drivers on the M25 and a range of knock-on impacts for local communities'. Motorcycles, moped and quad bikes will still be able to use the route free of charge. The one-off payment for buses, coaches and vans with two axles will rise from £3 to £4.20, while the one-off price for vehicles with more than two axles will increase from £6 to £8.40. Local residents who currently pay £20 a year to use the Dartford Crossing as many times as they want will have to pay £25 from September 1. Journeys made between the hours of 10pm and 6am will continue to be free.

UK to install over 100,000 EV chargepoints
The UK Government is set to install more than 100,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints across England. Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood announced that the government, along with industry partners, will deploy these chargepoints over the coming years. This expansion will add to the existing 80,000 public chargepoints available in the UK, making overnight charging more feasible for EV drivers. According to the statement from Greenwood and the UK Department for Transport, the installation of these chargepoints is supported by the £381m ($519m) Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which aims to assist industry and local authorities in England. The LEVI fund is part of the government's broader £4bn investment to facilitate the switch to EVs and secure global trade deals that benefit British carmakers. With the initiative, the government is hoping to tap into a multibillion-pound industry, create high-paid jobs, and contribute to the Plan for Change by increasing disposable income for families. Greenwood said: 'This government is powering up the EV revolution by rolling out a chargepoint every 29 minutes, and our support to roll out over 100,000 local chargepoints in England shows we are committed to making even more progress. 'We are delivering our Plan for Change by investing over £4bn to support drivers make the switch while backing British carmakers through international trade deals, creating jobs, boosting investment and securing our future.' Chargepoint operator Believ recently announced a £300m private investment for 30,000 new chargepoints across the UK. Private investment is expected to reach £6bn to install tens of thousands of chargepoints by 2030. The UK Government is also collaborating with local councils to expedite this rollout, with Suffolk County Council being the first to contract with a chargepoint operator. Believ CEO Guy Bartlett said: 'It is fantastic to see government and private industry working together to accelerate the EV charging rollout. Collaboratively, we recognise the scale of investment required and the urgency of the need. 'Confidence in EVs will continue to grow as drivers see more infrastructure going into the ground. At Believ, we are very proud to be at the heart of this journey.' Sally Nugent forced to halt BBC show live to deliver 'breaking news'
BBC Breakfast was halted live on air as Sally Nugent issued a breaking news update to viewers. It came following a fatal shooting of democratic state politician Melissa Hortman and her husband in Minnesota over the weekend. Sally shared with viewers that a man had been arrested following the incident. "Melissa Hortman and her partner were shot on Saturday after the attacker posed as a police officer." It has also been reported that the apprehended individual is accused of shooting and injuring another democratic legislator, state Senator John Hoffman, and his wife, Yvette, at their residence nearby. Following the arrest news, Minnesota Mayor Jacob Frey took to Facebook, commending the exceptional "skill and bravery" displayed by multiple law enforcement agencies in catching the suspect. "I'm grateful that our law enforcement partners in Minnesota acted with urgency to arrest the shooter and bring him to justice," he wrote. "Political violence is abhorrent, it cuts against the most basic moral fabric of our democracy. It's critical that those who commit these acts be held accountable under the law.
