Ohio State Athletics launches Center for Sports Intelligence and Strategy
On the heels of the House Settlement being approved, which paves the way for direct revenue sharing with college athletes, the Ohio State Department of Athletics announced the creation of the Center for Sports Intelligence & Strategy.
It's not a physical building, mind you, but according to a release from the department, it is the bringing together of a cross-functional team of athletics department administrators dedicated to driving strategic planning, optimizing data-driven decision-making, and fostering collaboration across teams. It is designed to provide Ohio State coaches with access to cutting-edge analytics, strategic insights, and tools designed to inform and enhance key areas such as recruiting, scheduling, resource allocation, and roster construction.
In other words, it's designed to beat every other college and university athletic department when it comes to the new order of revenue sharing and NIL in amateur college sports.
'The Center for Sports Intelligence & Strategy will equip our coaches with more information, context, and clarity to make even better decisions,' said Shaun Richard, Deputy Athletics Director, in a statement. 'We already have the best sports science team that equips our coaches with data on training, recovery, and performance. This unit will work in tandem with our sports scientists, as well as our business and NIL strategy teams, to give coaches additional data and actionable insights.'
There's no other way to explain this than groundbreaking. In a sense, Ohio State is looking to bring together sports sciences, operations, and athletic performance together to provide a better outcome for the student-athlete and success on the field.
'The intelligence and strategy we're providing will enhance our coaches' ability to make critical decisions by giving them the most relevant and timely information available – so they can maintain a competitive edge in every aspect of their programs,' said Richard.
This type of integration and cooperation is being embraced by Ohio State coaches across multiple sports.
'As coaches at Ohio State, we know the difference between winning and losing often comes down to the smallest details,' wrestling coach Tom Ryan said in the statement. 'The Center for Sports Intelligence & Strategy will uncover subtle patterns and insights that will give our teams a competitive edge. As the world of college athletics evolves, we know the additional intelligence and strategy will help us stay at the forefront in this highly competitive environment.'
Many areas will be impacted by the creation of the Center for Sports Intelligence and Strategy. It will be designed to integrate data and strategic expertise to support long-term planning and real-time decision-making. Areas of impact include recruiting and roster management, scheduling strategy, scholarship and budget modeling, and other operational aspects.
'The Center for Sports Intelligence & Strategy reinforces Ohio State's commitment to innovation, excellence, and leadership in the future of college athletics,' said Ross Bjork, Senior Vice President and Wolfe Foundation-Eugene Smith Endowed Athletics Director. 'As the competitive landscape continues to evolve, the intelligence and strategy provided will serve as an additional resource to ensure sustained success across all 36 sports.'
This is just the beginning of this initiative, and it'll be interesting to see how it all is employed and how it evolves. It'll be even more interesting to see if success on and off the field reach new heights with the collaborative approach.

Savion Hiter dons Michigan uniform with Bryce Underwood in stunning recruiting photo shoot

Michigan football rolled out the maize and blue carpet for prospects who made their way to Ann Arbor this past weekend, especially with the Wolverines hosting arguably their top overall target. It hasn't been a secret that the run-first Wolverines strongly covet 2026 Mineral (Virginia) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter, who has reciprocated that interest since position coach Tony Alford jumped ship from Ohio State to the maize and blue. Hiter has been on campus several times, but this weekend marked his pivotal official visit. Michigan was able to pull no punches, showing him everything he needs to know should he decide to wear a winged helmet. Advertisement Michigan does a photo shoot with every recruit it brings in. For Hiter, however, the Wolverines had the 2025 No. 1 overall recruit, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, pose with Hiter: handing the ball off to him as would be the case if Hiter signs with the Wolverines. They also made a video that emulates what would be posted by the team on signing day if he enters the fray. Hiter posted both on Monday. Hiter is the No. 17 overall prospect on the 247Sports composite. He also is strongly considering Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia. Ann Arbor was his penultimate visit. A trip to Knoxville takes place this weekend. The Vols are considered the primary competition to Michigan for Hiter's services. Michigan football gets RB commit from same Columbus school as Ryan Day's son

Michigan football fans are waiting with bated breath to find out how top overall 2026 target Savion Hiter's visit to Tennessee has gone this weekend. After all, there is no one that the Wolverines covet more than the Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back. But, as it turns out, there is another behind the scenes that the maize and blue have been working on — one that is completely off the radar. Advertisement Tailbacks coach Tony Alford spent nearly a decade in Columbus, coaching the same position at Ohio State before defecting to its biggest rival. Much like he got Michigan on Hiter's radar, Alford's radar is perhaps a bit wider than the elite running back. The thought earlier in the cycle is that Hiter would pair with four-star Javian Osborne, but Osborne ended up pledging to Notre Dame. On Sunday morning, just after midnight, Alford got (what he hopes to be one of two tailbacks) a RB commit in 2026 Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star Jonathan Brown. If that high school sounds familiar, it's the same one that former Michigan linebacker Joey Velazquez—who transferred to rival OSU—originally came from. Even weirder, the quarterback currently at St. Francis de Sales is RJ Day — son of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. Advertisement As for Brown, he's rated by 247Sports as the No. 44 tailback in the country and the 37th player in the state of Ohio. He is the 12th commitment in the class. Here is what it looks like as of current: Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star QB Brady Smigiel (No. 83 overall, 7th QB, 12th in California) Billings (Mt.) West four-star TE Matt Ludwig (No. 160 overall, 9th TE, 1st in Montana ) Chicago (Ill.) Simeon four-star EDGE McHale Blade (No. 169 overall, 21st EDGE, 5th in Illinois) Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star CB Brody Jennings (No. 277 overall, 24th CB, 43rd in Florida) Cartersville (Ga.) Cass four-star IOL Bear McWhorter (No. 399 overall, 33rd IOL, 48th in Georgia) Liberty Hill (Tx.) four-star DL Alister Vallejo (No. 411 overall, 44th DL, 55th in Texas) Denver (Colo.) Mullen three-star TE Mason Bonner (No. 600 via On3; 30th TE, 5th in Colorado) Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star WR Jaylen Pile (No. 714 overall, 103rd WR, 113th in Texas) Washington (D.C.) St. John's three-star EDGE Tariq Boney (No. 796 overall, 74th EDGE, 4th in D.C.) Hinsdale (Ill.) Central K Micah Drescher (No. 5 K, Chris Sailer Kicking) Phoenix (Ariz.) Sandra Day O'Connor five-star LS Colton Dermer (No. 6 LS) Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star RB Jonathan Brown (NR, 44th TB, 31st in Ohio) This article originally appeared on Wolverines Wire: Michigan gets RB Jonathan Brown commit from RJ Day's high school

Ohio State softball 2026 conference schedule unveiled

Looking forward to 𝐁𝟏𝐆 things in 2026.@OhioStAthletics | #GoBucks It was an overachieving year for the Ohio State softball team this past season. Despite losing a lot of key players, new head coach Kirin Kumar was able to lead the team to an offensive explosion in which the Buckeyes led the country in home runs, runs scored, and a few other categories. OSU ended up tying for third place in the Big Ten and found its way into the NCAA Tournament. Now, the trick will be to continue that momentum and continue the climb in the Big Ten and nationally. To do it, Ohio State will have to navigate a Big Ten schedule that now includes West Coast power teams like UCLA and Oregon. This past week, the Big Ten unveiled the conference schedule for the 2026 softball season, so we got a look at who the Buckeyes will play next season and where they will do it. Ohio State will host four home series in the conference and hit the road for four others. Here's how it'll all look next season.
