Akshay, who has long performed his own stunts, laughed when asked about his viral aeroplane sequence from Khiladi 420, which resurfaced around the release of Dead Reckoning.
Akshay Kumar, known as Bollywood's original action star, recently credited an unexpected source for inspiring some of his most daring stunts – Tom & Jerry! In a new interview with Pinkvilla, the Housefull 5 actor opened up about drawing action ideas from the classic cartoon duo and also reacted to comparisons with Hollywood icon Tom Cruise.
Akshay, who has long performed his own stunts, laughed when asked about his viral aeroplane sequence from Khiladi 420, which resurfaced around the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. While fans noted similarities between the two plane stunts, Akshay humbly dodged the comparison and instead credited his love for Tom & Jerry as his true influence.
'You know where I draw all this inspiration from? You will not believe it from Tom & Jerry," he said with a smile. Calling it 'the most violent thing," Akshay added, 'It is apparently made for children, but actually, if you look, there is so much action."
Recalling how the cartoon influenced specific scenes in his films, Akshay shared, 'I remember Tom coming from the helicopter, hanging and picking up Jerry – I did that in Sabse Bada Khiladi. Then, Tom is hanging on a plane, which is there in Khiladi 420."
He even noted a Khatron Ke Khiladi stunt was inspired by a moment where Tom and Jerry enjoy wine mid-air while lying in a hammock beneath a plane. 'It is so violent. Please try to understand — it is a violent film you are showing your children," he quipped.

The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 4 is back with a bang! Megastar Salman Khan made his appearance as the first guest of the show. His candid revelations about life, family, and his constant jabs at various matters, including marriage and divorce, continued to entertain the audience, offering a perfect dose of entertainment. Salman Khan recalls how Avinash Gowariker stayed at the Galaxy Apartment, renting his own house In one such revelation, the Dabangg actor reminisced about how popular photographer Avinash Gowariker stayed at his house until Sohail Khan married. Sharing the fun story, Salman said, "Wo hamare ghar aaye, unhone kaha ki main apne rented apartment se nikal raha hu, mujhe 1-2 maheene ke liye stay chahiye. I said - Stay, you are more than welcome. To aake ke reh gaye aur phir dedh-do saal ho gaye (leaving everyone in splits)." "He came to our house, he said that I am moving out of my rented apartment, I need a stay for 1-2 months. I said - Stay, you are more than welcome. So he came and stayed, and then one-two years passed (leaving everyone in splits)." While continuing the story, the 56-year-old mentioned, "To ek din hamne poocha ki Bhai kab jaane ka plan hai? Ghar dekh rahe the aap apna, Kya hua uska? He said, wo to ghar 15 din me mil gaya that jab main yaha aaya that, usko Maine rent me chada diya hai." (So one day we asked him, When are you planning to leave, brother? You were looking for your house. What happened to it? He said, I got the house in 15 days when I came here, I have given it on rent.) Furthermore, Salman Khan took a jibe at Sohail Khan's marriage. "Ussi dauraan Sohail ne bhaag kar shaadi ki thi, ab wo bhi bhag gayi (During that time Sohail had eloped and got married, now she has also eloped)," said Salman, leaving the audience in a chuckle. The Tiger 3 actor mentioned that Avinash used to stay in Sohail's room. When Sohail got married, Avinash was sleeping in his bed. Sohail asked him to wake up and move out, as he had gotten married. Avinash's reaction was priceless- "This is not fair. How can you get married like this? You should tell me. I mean, this is not fair at all—where will I go?" Salman laughs. Who is Avinash Gowariker? For the unversed, Avinash Gowariker is among the most popular celebrity photographers today. In an earlier interview with Bollywood Bubble, Avinash himself told this story and called Salman Khan and his whole family 'very kind-hearted'. He mentioned that at those times, he was struggling and not connected to any Khan member. No one in the Khan family knew him, even then, Bhaijaan opened doors for him, and Sohail allowed him to live in his room. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Chitrangda Singh Regrets Saying No To Tanu Weds Manu, Gangster: 'I Made Those Mistakes'

Last Updated: Chitrangda Singh opens up about rejecting 'Tanu Weds Manu', 'Gangster' and missing Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chalte Chalte'. 'I made those mistakes,' she admits. Chitrangda Singh, who was recently seen in Housefull 5, sat down for a candid conversation with SCREEN where she looked back at her 20-year journey in Bollywood. The actress opened up about her unconventional path in the industry, her nine-year-long sabbatical, missed career-defining roles, and how personal challenges shaped her trajectory. Reflecting on her debut film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and how the years have flown by, Chitrangda shared, 'It's been a very quick 20 years. When I look back, I feel like I have gotten far more than I expected. I don't think I was a very ambitious person. I didn't think I was going to go places. I was quite happy that I would get married and just have a good time; I never had a vision for myself. I feel that everything has been more than I expected. In 20 years, there have been 9 years of breaks in between. 11 years of working and people have not forgotten me, so I feel grateful." Asked whether a film like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi could be made today, she expressed hope for more meaningful cinema: 'I wish films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi get made because cinema should not just be for entertainment alone. There are films to entertain, and then there should be films about certain matters which need to go on record as cinema history. I wish we did more films like that." On her long sabbatical, Chitrangda explained the reasons that kept her away from the screen: 'The first seven years of break were because of my personal life, my commitment to that, and I had a son. I came back, and then I took another two-year break because I was going through a rough patch in my personal life again. In between that also I did not have the kind of work that I was looking for coming my way, so I decided to not be around because I was also going through my emotional ups and downs and I didn't want to do stuff that I won't be happy doing. So there was a rollercoaster of life going on. So yes, I did not do as much work as I probably would have wanted to do." The actress also opened up about the major films she missed out on during that time and how those decisions still linger. 'I have made those mistakes. I said no to Anurag Basu's Gangster. I refused Tanu Weds Manu. In Mangal Pandey, I said no to the role that Ameesha Patel played. There was one more that I am forgetting, and then there was Chalte Chalte that starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji, which I wasn't around for at all. They had run into some trouble and wanted to desperately cast someone. SRK had told me this. Saeed Mirza had loved my work, and they were looking for me. Juhi Chawla's brother Bobby was looking for my number. I had worked with SRK on an ad film when he had told me all this." Despite the detours, Chitrangda's presence and impact have endured. She continues to believe in the power of authentic storytelling and meaningful roles. On the work front, she confirmed that another commercial film is underway and that she will be announcing a new project this September. First Published: June 22, 2025, 14:17 IST
