Riteish Deshmukh calls wife Genelia's Sitaare Zameen Par 'Best film of the year'
Actor Riteish Deshmukh has termed wife Genelia D'Souza's "Sitaare Zameen Par" with Aamir Khan as "the best film of the year". The 'Housefull 5' actor penned an appreciation note on his Instagram handle that read, "Please do yourself a favour - go watch the best film of the year! #SitaareZameenPar is not just a movie, it's an experience. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry - and by the time it ends, it leaves you a better human being." "The true 'sitaares' of this film are the children - absolutely phenomenal performances that steal your heart and never let go," he added. 'Exclusively in theatres': Bollywood tests new methods to release movies
Bollywood is trying out various scripts to lure audiences back to the big screen. This comes as the rising dominance of over-the-top (OTT) platforms makes it difficult for movies to run for long periods on the silver screen, thus hurting the cinema industry. The latest attempt is by Aamir Khan, who decided to release his film, Sitaare Zameen Par, exclusively in theatres. On Thursday, Multiplex Association of India (MAI) applauded Aamir Khan's decision to release the film exclusively in theatres. This comes after some media reports said that the much-awaited movie is expected to be released on YouTube through a pay-per-view model after its theatre release, and not on OTT platforms. According to a film trade analyst, it is still not confirmed if the RS Prasanna-directed sequel to Taare Zameen Par will be released on YouTube. On the other hand, Girish Wankhede, film trade analyst, said it is highly unlikely for any other movie to be released on YouTube. Selling the rights of movies to streaming platforms helps producers recover a certain amount of their invested budget on the film. Through YouTube, the chances of recovering this money are unlikely. He further noted that Sitaare Zameen Par isn't a mass-audience film like Dangal or PK. These had the possibility of working well on a popular platform like YouTube. While select movies like Chhaava and Raid 2 performed well at the box office (BO), some high-profile ones like Salman Khan's Sikandar, Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, and the latest being Sajid Nadiadwala-produced Housefull 5 have failed to attract the desired footfalls and BO numbers. 'Housefull 5 was not successful because the cost of production was too high (around ₹250 crore). It will, at the most, make around ₹170 crore…Still, the film is in loss,' said Wankhede. After the opening weekend, the movie has seen a spike in its BO collection due to the ticket price offers on Tuesdays. In May, the producers (Maddock Films) of Rajkummar Rao-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf had suddenly decided to release the movie directly on Amazon Prime Video, which was later released in theatres due to a court order. This order came after PVR INOX took Maddock Films to court for changing its decision to release the movie in theatres. The cumulative BO collection for January-May was up by 27 per cent to ₹4,812 crore compared to the same period last year, according to an Ormax Media report. These attempts by the industry come at a time when film producers are still in a 'wait-and-watch' mode and are thinking twice before starting to work on movies. This comes as several films have not made money at the BO. Some have not even recovered their costs.

The movie has added Rs 1.50 crore to its tally on 3rd Friday, aided by the discount offers. The total of Housefull 5 now stands at Rs 153.25 crore net after 15 days. Saturday and Sunday should probably see the numbers double from Friday, to take the 17 day number close to Rs 158-159 crore. The movie should then slowly creep towards the finish line point of Rs 170-175 crore net. However, a release of a big new film is pretty normal when so many films are churned every year. Housefull 5 Looks At A USD 7 Million International Closing Housefull 5 looks to end its overseas run grossing an estimated USD 7 million. Given the movie opened to USD 4.25 million in 3 days, it should have done much better. However, the mixed word of mouth took a toll on the film. Housefull 5 Proves That Branded Content Still Helps A Lot The reception of Housefull 5, which is lower than what one would expect but still pretty decent, does not change the fact that branded content is working. Producers should invest in creating new IPs that can keep audiences engaged and excited. Akshay Kumar has a few big IP films already on the way. Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection Day 1: Aamir Khan's film Sitaare Zameen Par is predicted to have a slow start at the box office. The film was released on Friday. Directed by RS Prasanna, it is the spiritual sequel of Taare Zameen Par. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par made a business of ₹ 4.76 crore on Friday, June 20. It is to be noted that this is the live data from the website and subject to changes. The final figures will be out post 10 pm. The Aamir Khan movie was reported to release in theatres with over ₹ 6 crore business on day 1 if advance booking is considered. As per the website, the film had sold 1,15,344 tickets for 9,542 shows in all languages nationwide in advance booking. Without blocked seats, the Aamir Khan sequel was poised to make a business of ₹ 3.31 crore from advance booking ticket sales. In total, the film was said to open with ₹ 6.88 crore gross earnings, including blocked seats. The film is following a strictly theatrical release policy which means it might not see its OTT release soon or ever. The film is also experimenting with several new strategies, as per a report of Bollywood Hungama. It is majorly clashing with Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5, which has now slowed down at the ticket window. Talking about Sitaare Zameen Par's box office performance trends and early estimates, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh told Live Mint that Aamir's film will rely on word-of-mouth. He said, "The advance booking is not in sync with the star status of Aamir Khan. Yes, the advances should have been better because Aamir Khan returns to the big screen after a big gap with his own production, starring in it. It should have been better. I genuinely believe Sitaare Zameen Par is a word-of-mouth film. It should grow with word of mouth.' Going by the early reviews from the audience, the film has been dubbed as a 'well-intentioned film.' Critics reviews also hailed Aamir Khan's performance in the film. Sitaare Zameen Par is said to be the Hindi remake of the 2018 Spanish film, Campeones. Besides Aamir, it also has Genelia D'Souza. It also features 10 special actors who marked their acting debut on this Friday.
