Umno-PKR ties in unity govt intact despite Tengku Zafrul's exit, says Johari Ghani
BATU PAHAT: Umno's cooperation with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) within the unity government remains intact despite Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's resignation from the party, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Johari, who is Umno vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability.
"For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the Unity Government and the country," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry at Kampung Parit Bilal here on Saturday (May 31).
On May 30, Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, announced his resignation as a Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member.
On Saturday's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said RM2.5mil has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the ministry's Madani Adopted Village initiative.
The funds would go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said.
He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees and local community leaders.
"Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative," Johari added. – Bernama

Malaysia Courts Silicon And Scalpel Giants In San Francisco
Malaysia's global investment drive continues to gain momentum, with two major US tech firms, Halo Industries and Intuitive Surgical, exploring opportunities to set up operations in the country, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. In a Facebook post during his visit to San Francisco, Zafrul revealed that Halo Industries, a leading American semiconductor player, is considering expanding to Malaysia — a move he said would elevate the nation's role in the global semiconductor supply chain. This aligns with Malaysia's National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030). 'Not the Halo game, but Halo Industries, one of the leading semiconductor companies in the United States,' Zafrul quipped in his post, thanking the company for its trust in Malaysia. In a separate engagement, the minister also met with executives of Intuitive Surgical, a company behind advanced robotics and AI-driven surgical platforms. Discussions focused on Malaysia's potential as a high-tech investment hub for the medical technology sector. Zafrul said the government, through MITI and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), is fully committed to supporting such initiatives, which are expected to create high-skilled jobs and drive sustainable economic growth. 'The Malaysian government, through MITI and MIDA, is committed to fully supporting this effort,' he said. Related

222 Johor projects worth RM10b yet to start, says MB
JOHOR BARU: Johor has 222 projects scheduled between 2016 and 2024 that have yet to commence. The projects, worth around RM10 billion, include various public facilities such as roads, mosques, hospitals and clinics, said Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. "When I ask in meetings, they say, 'Don't worry, we'll check with the respective ministries, we'll get it approved.' "All these projects are for the people, but they still haven't started," he said in his speech at the 2025 Umno Tebrau division delegates' meeting here on Saturday. Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor Umno liaison chairman, said Umno leaders in the state risk incurring public anger if the projects are not implemented. "Council members, village heads, community leaders – don't just attend meetings to look good. "If the projects don't go through, if the allocations are not used properly and appropriately, let me ask – who will the people be angry with? "At the agency? Or at the Umno leaders? They will be angry with us. That's why we need to go down to the ground and inspect things ourselves," he said. The Machap assemblyman said the federal government should place its trust in the state leadership to approve and implement projects in Johor. He suggested that the federal government initiate a pilot programme with Johor to evaluate the proposal's effectiveness. "If you don't want to implement it nationwide, make Johor the pilot state. "Insya-Allah, the Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders in Johor can be trusted and will shoulder these responsibilities for religion, race and homeland," he said. Onn Hafiz expressed disappointment at the lack of implementation. "I don't like making people angry. "But when it comes to the welfare of the people, don't test me. I will fight all the way for the people – for the people of Johor. That is the spirit of Johor Umno. "What we say is not just rhetoric. If we say it, Insya-Allah, we will deliver it," he said. Also present at the event were Johor Umno liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Johor Umno secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman, who is also Tebrau Umno division chief.
