Teenagers help produce latest Big Issue magazine
The latest edition of the Big Issue has been produced with the help of teenagers based in some of the economically disadvantaged areas of the country.
Youth charity OnSide nominated a number of 13 to 18-year-olds engaged with their youth centres to provide content for this week's special edition of the magazine.
Among interviewees chosen by the teenagers were X Factor winner James Arthur and influencer Simon Squibb.
Topics covered include educational support for people with cerebral palsy and other special educational needs, and mental health challenges faced by youngsters,
Hundreds of young Big Issue vendors have accessed support from the magazine for issues including health and wellbeing.
Big Issue editor Paul McNamee said: 'Big Issue begins with opportunity. We offer young people who are frequently marginalised and on society's edge an opportunity to lift themselves up, both through the Big Issue's own earning and learning opportunities, and by championing their voices and views through our journalism.
'For this very special edition, we wanted to learn of the unfiltered hopes, concerns and future plans of this special group of young people. They chose the content, conducted the interviews, guided Big Issue team on how they wanted the pages will look.'
Jamie Masraff, OnSide's chief executive, said: 'This special youth edition of the Big Issue highlights what people lucky enough to work with young people already know.
'Despite tired stereotypes, young people are not disengaged or lacking in ambition. They are brilliant, care about their communities and are deeply connected to the issues shaping society.
'We're proud to support this edition and even prouder of the young people who have made it happen. At a time when so many young people are facing unprecedented challenges, we need more opportunities for them to be seen, heard, and celebrated.'

Visitors flock to traditional summer fete in one of Bolton's most beautiful buildings
Visitors flocked to the historic Bolton Parish Church for a community day of fun/ The Big Bolton Community Fun Day took place in the beautiful building, which hosted a traditional summer fete A free-to-enter event, refreshments, crafts, games, and family activities were on the agenda. Inside the church Bolton's wonderful craftsmen and women set up stall. Jacinta Storr's mum is a bell ringer at the church, and her daughter was christened there. She came over from West Yorkshire for a hit of nostalgia. She said: "I work in Bolton, so I have my lunch in the church yard, it's great to be inside it today though. "I've been doing craft things like this for three or four years now." Another stallholder was Tessa Burley, who was displaying her floral arts and illustrations. Lizzy Bartaby was showing off her beauty products, and salon-quality at-home lashes. "I'm also selling Korean beauty products which are a big trend at the minute," she said. Karen Boyle was selling digital art, bracelets, and a "bit of everything" on her stall. "I normally sell swear bracelets but I thought it was probably best not to given we were in a church!" She said. She works at Bolton's Warburton factory as a full-time job but as a hobby creates the crafts on display. Olive Owens was another trader in the line of stalls, she sells jewellery using a mixture of recycled materials.

Crowds gather for Totton Carnival as it marks 120 years
Balloons, colourful ribbons and smiles from ear to ear were all on show at the Totton Carnival 2025 despite fears that it could be the last one. The Totton Carnival has been a staple of the town for around 120 years with floats from charities, schools and community groups being greeted by hundreds of people who lined the streets of Totton to cheer on the annual parade. Despite the fun at the event, coupled with the glorious sunshine, some were a little downbeat that this could be the last Totton Carnival after more than a century due to a lack of volunteers. Ann Page, 69, and Helen Chant, 56, from the Totton and Eling Community Association have been creating and designing their trailer and costumes for more than six weeks. Helen Chant, Charlotte Orchard and Ann Page (Image: NQ) Helen, a Totton resident for more than 25-years, said: "We have so many organisations taking part today - there are dance schools, scout groups, charities and community groups like ourselves. "We then parade through the town on the back of our trailers for all the residents to enjoy. "Our team have put a huge amount of work into today. We have handmade everything using what time we have after work and at the weekend." "Without the carnival we would loose our community spirit. Totton is a really big town and we need community events just like the carnival. it brings people together and puts smiles on faces." "I'm looking for eight to 14 volunteers for our committee who can get in touch with us on our Facebook page. We have all sorts of different jobs that need doing and it would be devastating if we could not do this again." The floats and trailers started the carnival at the AFC Totton ground on Saturday, June 21, then paraded through Totton town centre and finished at Eling Recreational ground.
