Red Sox address ‘unsubstantiated report' about using AI for baseball ops interviews

SEATTLE — The Red Sox on Wednesday released a statement to address an 'unsubstantiated report' that the organization uses AI to interview candidates for their baseball operations openings.
Joon Lee made the claim on NBC Sports Boston's Arbella Early Edition on Tuesday, saying, 'The Red Sox were trying to recruit a new person for their baseball operations department, and during this interview process, the entire interview was conducted with an AI bot, where you would record the answers to the questions and then the Red Sox would then evaluate them. And this wasn't just one round. It wasn't just two rounds. It was five rounds of interviews where this person did not talk to another person in the Red Sox organization.'

The Red Sox released the following statement:
'We wanted to reach out to you because we are seeing unsubstantiated reports about the Red Sox using AI bots to hire candidates. ... Since 2012, the club has used a tool called HireVue to screen applicants for all roles across the organization. The Red Sox are one of several MLB clubs to use this tool, which asks candidates to answer a few questions in a recorded video for the hiring manager to get a sense of the person beyond their resume. This is one of several steps in the hiring process and is just one factor that helps determine which candidates should advance to an in-person interview. On average, the club receives over 500 applicants per position, and for some roles, as many as 3,000. This tool is in no way a replacement for in-person interviews, simply one of many steps that helps the club screen the many candidates who apply for each job posting.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Penske Entertainment executives rolled out its plan for IndyCar's next-generation chassis and engine formula in a private meeting of its team owners midway Saturday at Road America, the series announced in a release. The car, which earlier this month the series confirmed to be on track for the start of the 2028 season, will include between 85 to 100 pounds of weight reduction, house a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 internal combustion engine — the engine originally planned to be rolled out in tandem with the debut of IndyCar's bespoke hybrid unit — and a low-voltage hybrid unit that will continue to evolve off of the current model in use to eventually include 'longer deployment, more horsepower gain and overall improved performance.' The new car will feature a new gearbox that will shed 25 pounds and that will share components with the future Indy NXT gearbox. Performance Friction Corporation will again be the exclusive supplier of brake system components for the series, as it has since 2017. The new car will also include an ergonomic driver cockpit to improve seating position, as well as an integrated aero screen and a new roll hoop. Kristian Campbell clears the air on alleged beef with Rafael Devers

First things first. On opposite coasts and now in different organizations and at different levels of baseball, Rafael Devers and Kristian Campbell agree that Devers — who was traded to the Giants on Sunday — never took issue with his former Red Sox teammate agreeing to move from second base to first base to help the team when Devers himself wasn't willing to make the same kind of selfless switch. Yahoo Sports reported that Devers felt the top prospect Campbell's willingness to change positions to first base was a 'slight to his own stature' given the saga surrounding Devers all season.
