420,070 personnel served 1.67mln pilgrims during Haj 2025: Saudi's GASTAT
RIYADH — The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) on Tuesday released its official Hajj 2025 Statistical Bulletin, revealing that 420,070 individuals from both the public and private sectors, including security agencies, served the 1,673,230 pilgrims who performed Hajj this year.
Of those working in the service of pilgrims, 92% were men and 8% were women.
The total also included 34,540 volunteers — male and female — who collectively contributed 2,134,398 volunteer hours within the holy sites during the Hajj season.
GASTAT's data also showed that 314,337 pilgrims benefited from the 'Makkah Route Initiative,' representing 20.9% of all foreign pilgrims. The initiative, launched in 2017, streamlines the arrival process for pilgrims from eight countries by conducting pre-travel immigration procedures.
The bulletin reaffirmed previously released figures, stating that a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj this year. This included 1,506,576 foreign pilgrims arriving through various entry points and 166,654 domestic pilgrims, comprised of both Saudi citizens and residents.
Out of the total pilgrim count, 877,841 were men and 795,389 were women.
GASTAT said its data relies on administrative records from the Ministry of Interior, providing a high degree of reliability and accuracy. These records cover the full range of pilgrim demographics and services provided, following a statistical methodology applied consistently over the past five years.

A Filipino in Kuwait shared on TikTok (@ a humorous note addressed to fellow Filipinos, and anyone who reads it—Filipino or not—would likely have a good laugh. The note, printed in all capital letters and angrily taped to a gate, complained about Filipinos frying fish early in the morning. Some words on it are even highlighted with a marker, saying how this practice disrupts the sleep of their neighbors and warned that repeated offenses might be reported to the police. The 'fish' in question is likely 'tuyo' or 'daing'—dried fish beloved by Filipinos for breakfast, often paired with garlic rice (sinangag). While these dishes can quickly clear out a rice cooker, the cooking process is notorious for its strong, unpleasant odor. For Filipinos living abroad, the craving for familiar foods like dried fish can be intense, especially since these items are rarely available outside the Philippines. To minimize the smell, some have shared tips such as heating the pan and oil first and then frying the fish outdoors, or partially covering the pan until the fish is cooked before letting the smell dissipate outside. This Chef from Gaza Wins Prestigious Award for his Content
A chef and content creator from Gaza, Hamada Shaqura, won a prestigious award for his cooking videos. Shaqura won the 2025 James Beard broadcast Media Emerging Voice Award for his videos about cooking creative meals for children in Gaza, using ingredients from aid packages. Before the start of the war in Gaza, Shaqura was a content creator, not a chef. However, the start of the war made him realize he had a responsibility towards the children of Gaza; therefore, he started preparing meals for them to express love and hope. His culinary skills in war-torn Gaza and intense gaze in his videos garnered him millions of views. In April 2024, Hamada and other Palestinian volunteers launched Watermelon Relief, dedicated to providing displaced families with meals, activities, and support. Since the launch of the relief, Hamada started cooking meals for the people in Gaza on a larger scale. However, when Israel stopped aid from entering Gaza in March this year, Hamada has not been able to continue his relief efforts because he has been struggling to feed his own family. Although, the Israel and US-backed organization, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, recently started limited aid distribution in the enclave, it is not sufficient for the starving population. Since the start of GHF's aid distribution, Israel has killed over 330 Palestinians at these aid distribution sites.
