India's new Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express has been an instant hit. It has been receiving overwhelming response, with all seats getting sold out soon. According to the railway authorities, bookings for the train are full for the next 10 days.

Speaking to the media, Station Superintendent at Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, Jugal Kishor Sharma, added that the response they are getting for the train has already exceeded their expectations.
"We are receiving a very good response from the public for the Vande Bharat Express, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. People are very excited, and there are no seats available for the next 10 days," Sharma said.
Flagged off by Prime Minister Modi on June 6, this iconic express runs on the newly completed Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Railway Link, a 272 km engineering marvel featuring 36 tunnels and 943 bridges—including the world's tallest railway arch, the Chenab Bridge—surpassing even the Eiffel Tower in height. The route dramatically enhances Kashmir's all-season connectivity, historically hampered by landslides and snow on the Jammu–Srinagar highway.

Designed for the Himalayan harsh weather
This special train isn't the usual standard Vande Bharat. The train has been designed for sub-zero Kashmir weather, and comes equipped with heated windshields, insulated toilets, and advanced heating systems that fight frost even at –20 °C. Reports add that the train will be operating six days a week (excluding Tuesday/Wednesday maintenance), and will be making the Katra–Srinagar journey in just three hours, which is a massive time-saver.

Railway limits waiting list tickets bookings
Prayagraj: In a major step aimed at improving passenger convenience and curbing overcrowding in trains, the Indian Railways (IR) has decided to limit the issuance of waiting list (WL) tickets. As per the newly introduced system, only up to 25% of the total available berths in each coach category of a train will be allowed for waiting list bookings. This regulation will apply uniformly across all categories, including sleeper class, AC three tier, AC two tier, AC first class, chair car and executive chair car. For instance, in a train with 200 berths, only 50 waiting list tickets will now be issued, ensuring that overcrowding in reserved coaches is significantly reduced. According to the Railways, the primary aim of this change is to enhance the travel experience of passengers with confirmed tickets by preventing congestion in reserved compartments. So far, trains with high demand, such as the Prayagraj Express, Shramik Shakti Express, and Brahmaputra Mail, often have waiting lists exceeding 100 on regular days and even soaring past 400 during festivals. This leads to a situation where many passengers with unconfirmed tickets would board the trains, causing inconvenience to others and straining onboard services. Importantly, the cap will not apply to seats earmarked for specific categories such as senior citizens, women, differently-abled passengers (Divyangjans), and foreign tourists. These categories will continue to enjoy the current reservation flexibility. Chennai-bound Indigo flight lands in Bengaluru after pilot announces ‘fuel mayday'
Indigo flight 6E-6764 operating from Guwahati to Chennai on Thursday made an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after the pilot announced a 'fuel mayday'. The aircraft (Airbus A321) departed Guwahati at 4.40 pm and attempted to land in Chennai around 7.45 pm but had to abort due to insufficient fuel, prompting the pilot to issue a 'fuel mayday' alert. It landed in Bengaluru at 8.15 pm, with all 168 passengers evacuated safely. The incident triggered fresh aviation safety concerns, following closely on the heels of the UK-bound Air India flight crash near Ahmedabad airport last week. Although Indigo has not issued any official statement, sources in the airline company told The Indian Express that the flight encountered a fuel emergency after being denied landing at Chennai airport due to air traffic congestion. 'Since the flight did not receive clearance to land at Chennai due to congestion and was flying at low fuel, the pilot announced a fuel mayday as per the protocol, and the aircraft was diverted to Bengaluru. The Bengaluru ATC (Air Traffic Control) gave a priority landing, and the flight landed safely at 8.15 pm. Contrary to some reports, the pilot did not announce a mayday, instead a fuel mayday, which is different,' said a source from the airline company. 'Post landing, passengers were deboarded without reported injuries and were given refreshments at the airport, as per protocol,' the source added. The aircraft was refuelled and took off with a new crew and 168 passengers to Chennai at around 10.30 pm. 'Since the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) of the crew lapsed, a new crew took over the flight as per protocol and took off to Chennai at around 10.24 pm,' said the source. The incident comes a day after another Indigo flight, headed to Madurai, flew back to Chennai after a mid-air snag. After flying for about half an hour, the pilot detected the issue and sought permission to fly back to Chennai. The plane carrying about 68 passengers landed safely.

6k tickets cancelled, Kedarnath choppers to be grounded till Sept 15
Dehradun: Chopper operations to Kedarnath remained suspended for the seventh straight day on Saturday after a crash killed seven people on June 15, grounding eight operators, cancelling thousands of bookings and causing financial losses over Rs 4 crore in Rudraprayag district. Sources said helicopter services are expected to resume only around Sept 15, after the end of the monsoon season. District tourism officer Rahul Chaubey said no bookings were made beyond June 22 due to the halt, which was initiated in the wake of monsoon and pending safety directives. Chaubey, who also oversees helicopter services on the Kedarnath route, said, "Around 900 tickets are being cancelled each day as the choppers are not operating since June 15, which means anything between 5,400 to 6,000 tickets have been cancelled in this duration. We are waiting for instructions from U ttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) before proceeding any further." Since the Kedarnath yatra began, 56,044 pilgrims have taken helicopter rides from Guptkashi, Sirsi and Phata, while 54,209 have returned from Kedarnath to these helipads. The June 15 incident was the fifth helicopter-related mishap on the Char Dham route in 45 days.
