Protest planned in Kalaburagi over sexual assault on minor
The Sakal Hindu Samaj, a consortium of various organizations, has announced a mass protest in Kalaburagi on Tuesday against the sexual assault on a minor in Nandikur Tanda on the outskirts of Kalaburagi.
Members of the samaj Divya Hagaragi and Ramchandra Jadhav, addressing the press here on Sunday, said that the religious heads of various mutts, community leaders and several organizations will join the protest march from Jagat Circle to Deputy Commissioner's office.
Ms. Hagaragi urged citizens to unite for the 'safety of our daughters'.
She said that the accused, Waseem Shaikh, sexually assaulted the minor girl from Nandikur Tanda three weeks ago.
Later, the accused, along with his parents and relatives, barged into the victim's house and harassed the girl's parents using abusive language and even forced them to get their daughter married to Waseem Shaikh, she said.
A case has been lodged under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (PoCSO) Act at the Gulbarga University Police Station.

Bhopal: A division bench of the MP High Court acquitted a person sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court on charges of 'raping' his wife when she was a minor. She further said that her father demanded Rs 5 lakh from her husband to drop the complaint against him, and when he couldn't meet the demand, he lodged a police complaint against him. She further said in the court that she studied up to class V at a school and her age was ascertained from school records. She was admitted to school without showing a birth certificate, and her date of birth was registered as November 26, 2004. There is no documentary proof to this effect, and the girl says that she is an adult. In this situation, holding the petitioner guilty of rape because the girl was a minor at the time of marriage was not appropriate. With this, the court set aside the trial court order and acquitted the accused.

Chandigarh: The special court of additional district and sessions judge, Neetika Verma, in Mohali has rejected the regular bail application of a Delhi-based travel agent accused of sending a youth to the US via the illegal 'dunki route'. The case has put human trafficking networks operating under the guise of overseas job placements in the spotlight once again. The bail plea of Gagandeep Singh (36), a resident of Delhi's Tilak Nagar, was dismissed by the special court, with the NIA strongly opposing the bail on grounds of the severity and implications of the alleged crime. Gagandeep Singh is accused of illegally facilitating the travel of Gursewak Singh, a resident of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran district, to the US through the perilous dunki route — via Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico — after allegedly charging Rs 45 lakh under the pretext of providing a valid visa. According to the FIR registered on Feb 18, under Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals (Regulation) Act, 2014, and Section 318 of the BNS, 2023, Gursewak was eventually captured by US border patrol authorities before he could cross into US territory and was detained for 19 days. He was deported and returned to India on Feb 15.
