'I bought a pint in Benidorm and couldn't believe how much I was charged'

Daily Record21-05-2025

A British holidaymaker recalled the moment he enjoyed a drink over in the Spanish hotspot and was left astonished by how much he had to pay
Benidorm has proven itself as the ultimate destination for a budget-friendly jolly with mates, as one man discovered on his visit. The resort offers day-long clubbing, endless cocktail sipping and a chance to witness numerous stag parties making fools of themselves, making it the perfect getaway spot.
However, the burning question remains: how much will you pay for a pint there? That mystery was solved by one Brit currently enjoying himself in the Spanish resort town.

Graham White was gobsmacked when he stumbled across a pub offering pints at less than the price of a cup of tea. Although tea costed £1.66 in that establishment, a pint of beer was available for a mere 83p – an unbelievably thrifty find, especially compared to UK prices.

The 48-year-old, who shares his Spanish escapades on his Benidorm Grumet TikTok channel, captured his discovery in a video, which elicited shock from viewers amazed by the pint's low cost.
In the footage, Graham pans across the patrons and staff before querying the barmaid: "How much is it for a pint of Estrella?"
She responded: "One euro, one euro for a pint," confirming that it was definitely time for Graham to order a round.
Interested in the comparison, he then enquired about a cup of tea, only to find out its price was double that of a pint at two euros.
This price revelation staggered some of Graham's 59,000 TikTok followers, with a few sceptical souls even doubting the veracity of his claim.

But that did not put him off and he triumphantly declared to his doubters: "People called me a liar and said there was no place in Benidorm where you can get a one-euro pint. So I went in and got one."
Graham hailed it as the "cheapest bar in Benidorm," and expressed astonishment that a cup of tea was "double for a cup of tea".
Finder.com suggests that the typical cost of a pint in London stands at £6.50, while the national average across Britain hits £5.44. Therefore, holidaymakers in Benidorm can expect to enjoy several rounds for the price of a single London pint.
Affectionate and humorous responses poured into the comments section with one user jesting: "Why would you bother with anything else?", while another comment indicated that Benidorm was "cheap as chips" in comparison to alternative holiday hotspots.
Other people also praised the bar Graham went to, with comments such as "Love the price, pity I don't drink," "Went here yesterday, the food is ace as well," "Bargain of the day," and "May as well get the pints in!"

The Chase star Mark Labbett says 'it's an honour' 16 years after ITV show debut

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The Chase's Mark Labbett was quick to issue a message to one of the celebrity guests during Saturday's show. During the episode, which originally aired last year, ITV viewers saw 'The Beast' go head to head with the likes of Raj Bisram, Danielle Harold, John Conteh and Roger Black, who were all competing to win money for their charity. With the Antiques Roadshow expert and EastEnders star successfully managing to make it back to the table with the money they had earned in their round, it was time for former British professional boxer John Conteh to face Mark. The 74-year-old answered three questions correctly, meaning he had earned a total of £3,000 to potentially bring back to the team. However, before facing Mark at the table, the quizzer had some kind words to say to the boxing champ. He said: 'Good evening, John. It's not often I say this, but it's an honour, sir, to meet you.' The audience gave a collective sound of admiration for Mark's remark as John thanked him. Bradley added: 'He loves his boxing!' Although the niceties were short-lived as Mark replied: 'Right, that's the last compliment you'll get.' Sadly, John didn't make it back to the table as Mark caught him at the table during his round. In the end, it was Raj, Danielle and Roger in the final Chase as they were playing to win a staggering £120,000 after Roger decided to go for Mark's high offer. Getting a three-step headstart, the team managed to answer 11 questions correctly, setting a target of 14 for the chaser to try and beat. With two minutes on the clock, Mark managed to catch the team with 47 seconds left on the clock to spare. Speaking about their performance, the quizzer, who has been part of the ITV show for 16 years, said: 'I'm sorry guys, the way they broke, either I knew them, or they were so tough you didn't stand a prayer at pushing me back.' Meanwhile, host Bradley Walsh said: 'We missed John Conteh, of course, you needed a full house, and we needed a bigger score on our side of that run, but that's just the way it is.' However, the ITV star informed the team that they won't be walking away empty handed as they'd each get £1,000 to give to their chosen charity. The Chase is available to watch on ITVX

Common cruise cost-saving hack backfires as woman gets BANNED for life

A woman has been banned for life from a popular cruise line after sharing a video of her smuggling alcohol on board a ship. Courtney Murley posted a video detailing how to avoid paying for a costly drinks package on a cruise. She captioned the video, which got over 400k views on TikTok, 'Def waited until after I got home to post this! Hahahaha but it worked.' But it seems the video was brought to the attention of Carnival Cruise Lines who have now banned her from travelling with them again. In the viral video Ms Murley demonstrated how she was able to sneak alcohol on board the Carnival Conquest at the end of March. She said: 'Forget a drink package lol….okay we ended up drinking probably what we would of paid for a drink package anyways but still was fun to try and see if the rum runners would work.' Followers took to the comments to warn Ms Murley that there could be consequences. One user wrote: 'Wow. The last thing to do is post this and when you get banned whine about it not being alcohol. You ratted yourself out.' Ms Murley later shared a screenshot of a letter that she received from Carnival Cruise Lines banning her from future travel. It read: 'This letter is to inform you that you will not be able to sail onboard any Carnival Cruise Line vessel in the future due to the smuggling of alcohol onboard the Carnival Conquest on March 31st, 2025, and subsequently posting about it on social media platforms. 'Your attempt to book a future cruise will result in cancellation and a possible loss of deposit monies.' However, in a follow-up video, Ms Murley then claimed that she never actually smuggled alcohol onboard. Instead, she made up the story in what became a successful attempt to go viral. She said: 'What I'm mad about is that they are banning me for something that didn't happen,' she claimed. 'They said for smuggling alcohol. I did not smuggle alcohol. 'Not one ounce of alcohol was smuggled onto the ship.'

Inside world's 'creepiest' island with 160,000 corpses where tourists are banned

A chilling abandoned island were 160,000 people died and were buried has been pictured - the public is banned from setting foot on the creepy site A tiny island, known as the "creepiest" in the world, has banned adventurous tourists from ever entering the chilling site. The small patch of land, just off the coast of one of Italy's most famous cities, has a chilling history which has given it it's now scary reputation. The island of Poveglia sits just off the coast of the historic and picturesque city of Venice and is made up of three areas each as frightening as each other. The abandoned island, dubbed "the island of ghosts" is filled with derelict buildings that have been left to fall apart and crumble, including a former military fort. ‌ ‌ These unsteady and unsafe buildings have resulted in the strict ban that prohibits tourists from visiting the spooky island. Limited exceptions are made to this strict rule, for things like research or filming. The abandoned island gained it's chilling reputation from it's wretched history and use in the past. The island was a quarantine zone during the 18th century, where people who were infected with the plague were sent. Desperate people were forcibly taken to island, often against their free will, when they started to present the horrifying symptoms of the deadly Black Death. The 18-acre island turned from a quarantine zone and into a mass grave site where around 160,000 victims of the deadly disease died and were then buried. Local legends about the tragic island have said it is believed over 50% of the island's soil today has been made up of ash and decomposed body parts from the thousands of people who horribly died there. Despite the strict no visitors rule for the tiny island, two British explorers, Matt Nadin and Andy Thompson, posted a video of themselves visiting the eerie site, in 2020, onto their YouTube channel Finders Beepers History Seekers. ‌ The travelling duo said the island was "really, really eerie" and added that it was full of "dark history". Matt said: "The island is so full of dark, dark history, a hell of a lot of people died there and you really get a sense of the horrors that took place there while you're walking around. "The island is so full of dark, dark history, a hell of a lot of people died there and you really get a sense of the horrors that took place there while you're walking around. ‌ "They burnt all the bodies and left them where they lay. The island has never really been cleared properly or anything so everything has just been left. Later on, when it was turned into an asylum, and because people were shoved there out of the way of prying eyes, they started to do experiments on them, horrible, horrible stuff. "Whilst we were there, we heard the bell toll and that was quite spooky, that did actually freak me out a little bit. It was like an omen or something. The whole place was just really weird and eerie although you could tell from the tiles and the archways it would have been a beautiful building originally. "You could see that hardly anyone had set foot there for years because there is no graffiti or anything it's all just natural decay." Incredible images of the derelict island show how decades of no human activity on the site allowed for nature to take over and sprawl around and into the crumbling buildings.
