Thane civic body vows to complete drain cleaning, infra work before monsoon
THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation announced on Friday the cleaning of all drains and the completion of pending infrastructure works in the city and on the Ghodbunder highway.
This includes operating the crucial Kasarvadavali flyover in the next few weeks to ensure zero inconvenience to lakhs of Thane residents during the monsoon.
TOI (local edition) highlighted the issues on Friday after the corporation admitted to cleaning just 51% of drains in the city and the delayed schedule of ongoing works on the GB highway, which also raised concerns about potential waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon.
Several local elected representatives also flagged the issue. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao confirmed on Friday that all key road repairs, underground drainage connections, and cleaning works would be wrapped up by May 30.
He emphasized that strict instructions have been issued to all infrastructure agencies, including MMRDA, to avoid any delays.
"The flyover bypassing the crucial Kasarvadavali junction on the Ghodbunder highway will be completed by June 5, taking all outbound traffic on the elevated stretch, while local vehicles will use the slip road.

Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, who joined former MP Rajan Vichare for an inspection on Friday evening, assured that areas prone to waterlogging would be safeguarded by implementing comprehensive drain cleaning measures.
In addition, prominent lakes like the Siddheswar Lake are also being desilted, and all outlets discharging sewage water into the lake are being plugged, Vichare said.
