
#SHOWBIZ: Pak Nil aids needy radio listener with monetary transfer
KUALA LUMPUR: Popular TV host Datuk Aznil Nawawi's appearance on Kool 101 yesterday, where he spoke to radio announcer Haiza, moved many listeners to tears.
Aznil, affectionately known as Pak Nil, told Haiza he wished to give RM50 as an allowance to Malaysians in need.
Soon after, a caller named Nurul shared her ongoing hardships.
Nurul explained that she was seeking help for her parents, who were suffering from chronic illnesses and had recently undergone surgery.
"My parents are recuperating from bowel surgery, and I need to cover their medical costs as well as daily necessities," a tearful Nurul said.
"At the same time, my children are in school, and my husband, a factory worker, doesn't earn much."
Aznil asked Nurul if she had ever gone hungry, to which she answered in the affirmative.
"Yes, I've had to fast at times, Pak Nil, because I needed to save and make ends meet," she explained between sobs.
Aznil comforted Nurul and told her he would transfer money to her bank account.
Upon receiving the transfer, she thanked him repeatedly.
"I've transferred RM500 to your account; may your family be blessed and see better days ahead," Aznil told Nurul.
Many netizens praised Aznil for his humanitarian spirit.
Among them was actor Fauzi Nawawi, who remarked that Aznil was "always a friend in need for Malaysians."

With several titles announced this year, many speculated it could be either Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' or DC's 'Superman'. However, the answer was officially revealed yesterday (Thursday, 19th June). The Malaysian VFX artist posted a Reel on his Instagram, showing him walking down a street in formal attire while reading a newspaper. Suddenly, beams of light, possibly missiles, appeared in the sky, with one striking a section of the building directly above him and several civilians. Sofian sprang into action, shielding the bystanders from the falling debris with his body before flying off, as the camera panned to reveal the iconic 'S' symbol in the sky. If that wasn't obvious enough, the influencer confirmed the exciting news in his caption, writing: 'I had the opportunity to join the 'Superman' movie junket in the Philippines. Soon, I'll be filming content with Superman himself, David Corenswet. Pray that everything goes smoothly.' As expected, Malaysians expressed their excitement over Sofian's achievement, praising him for representing the country on an international stage. Some even joked that the content creator collaborating with Hollywood stars is akin to Thanos collecting the Infinity Stones in 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame.' KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and actress Bella Astillah, 31, is delighted to finally meet one of her idols, South Korean actor Lee Min-ho. The 31-year-old Sabahan artiste spent RM500 to join a recent contest to meet and greet the South Korean star. In an interview with Harian Metro yesterday, Bella said that the contest was organised as part of a campaign by a product for which he was a brand ambassador. "I've been a long-time fan of Min-ho, so when the opportunity to meet and greet him came, I quickly bought products worth RM500," said Bella. Bella's good friend, Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, however, felt that her move was a "waste of money" at a time when the cost of living was on the rise. "I told him it could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so it was worth it," said Bella, who shed tears of joy when she finally won her ticket to meet Min-ho.

It felt like stepping into another world. For one night, the rhythms, colours, and soul of Russia filled the halls of Sunway University, turning an ordinary evening into something magical. This event, titled The Russian Cultural Ensemble Concert was a cultural feast blending music, dance, and art into a vibrant celebration that brought strangers together, all moving to the same beat. The concert featured nine exceptional performers flown in directly from Russia, treating the audience to 16 stunning performances. From traditional folk songs to violin solos that tugged at heartstrings, every act was a celebration of Russian artistry. 'Russia and Malaysia are far apart geographically, but through events like this we can bring our cultures closer. We have many famous composers and performers and it would be a great opportunity for Malaysians to know about Russian music, literature and language," he said. Potemkin also highlighted past collaborations, such as the Islamic Film Festival organised in Shah Alam and Johor, where Russian cinema producers shared stories of love, family and societal issues common to both cultures. 'Russia is home to 20 million Muslims and our Islamic culture has much in common with Malaysia's. It's a connection we want to continue exploring," he said. I hope more Russian groups, artists and performers will visit not just Kuala Lumpur but other cities as well. "Malaysians have shown a genuine appreciation for Russian culture and we aim to keep this connection alive through music, cinema and other art forms," he said.
