Nashik: Police detain man for running illegal gas refilling centre
Nashik: The Nashik city police have detained a person operating an illegal gas refill centre on the Wadala-DGP Road.
Authorities also seized property worth over Rs1 lakh, including 4 domestic Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, an electronic gas refilling machine, a gas regulator, and a weighing machine.
The central crime branch, led by inspector Anchal Mudgal, busted the operation. The crackdown followed instructions from police commissioner Sandeep Karnik to investigate illegal businesses within the city.
On Tuesday, while patrolling the Mumbai Naka, Indiranagar, and Upnagar areas, assistant police inspector Pravin Mali received a tip-off about the illicit refilling station. Police immediately raided the tin shed facility, finding two individuals refilling LPG from a domestic cylinder into an autorickshaw.
Last month, the crime branch unit 2 had raided an illegal gas refill centre in the Nashik Road area and seized 63 domestic gas cylinders. Three people were detained, besides seizure of gas cylinders and machinery worth over Rs2.5 lakh. In April, the city police had detained two people and recovered 13 gas cylinders, three motors, and three weighing machines, all worth Rs1.2 lakh. The illegal gas refill centre was in Shramik Nagar area of Satpur.

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) ban on road digging after May 31 has turned into a farce as unauthorised excavation continues across the city. Deep trenches at many locations are left unbarricaded, and patchwork left unfinished has turned the stretch into a hazard for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Residents report frequent near-miss accidents and daily inconveniences, especially during peak traffic hours. Many key stretches have been dug up and abandoned, with debris dumped by the roadside. Temple land worth 1 crore retrieved from encroachers in Krishnagiri
Krishnagiri: The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department on Thursday demolished nine houses that were built on a parcel of land belonging to the Krishnagiri Pudupettai Arulmigu Prasanna Parvathy Sametha Chandra Mouleswarar Temple and retrieved 34 cents worth Rs1 crore. According to an official source, the temple land was encroached years ago by several people to build houses. "We had earlier issued notices to the owners of these houses with a request to vacate the place. Since they did not leave on their own, we demolished the houses today (Thursday) with the help of earthmovers and retrieved the temple land. The drive was carried out in the presence of police to avoid any untoward incidents. " Pointing out that some houseowners had petitioned the HR&CE commissioner against the eviction drive, the source said they would continue the drive to retrieve the encroached temple land after the conclusion of an inquiry.

Musiri RDO killed in accident on NH
1 2 Trichy: Aramutha Devasena, 55, revenue divisional officer (RDO) of Musiri, was killed in a road accident on Thursday after her official vehicle collided with a govt bus and rammed an earthmover on Trichy-Karur national highway (NH) on the outskirts of the city. Condoling the death, chief minister M K Stalin announced that the govt would disburse Rs1 crore as personal accident insurance cover, and Rs10 lakh to the RDO's family members as solatium from his public relief fund (CMPRF) and another Rs5 lakh under the family security fund. Police said Devasena was travelling in her official vehicle to Trichy city to participate in a govt event. The vehicle was driven by her official driver V Prabakar, 51. Around 11.45am, as the vehicle was approaching Kadiyakurichi near Jeeyapuram, it collided with a TNSTC bus coming in the opposite direction. Driver Prabakar lost control of the vehicle and it further rammed an earthmover parked on the left side of the highway for repair work. Eyewitness said the speeding govt vehicle came to a sudden halt after ramming the heavy machinery. The RDO succumbed to head injuries on the spot, with her body stuck in the mangled remains of the vehicle. Driver Prabakaran sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Trichy MGMGH. Locals said that the accident spot was one of the widest stretches of the accident-prone Trichy-Karur NH, as vehicles utilise such spacious stretches to accelerate and overtake. Around 32km-long stretch of Trichy-Karur NH81 is one of the top 100 accident-prone roads identified by road safety and state transport authority of the govt. In 2024, the stretch recorded 112 accidents and 44 fatalities. Citing the RDO's death, locals asked the district administration to widen the narrow highway. Jeeyapuram police have registered a case.
