Titleist brought its next generation of T-Series irons – the updated T100, T150, T250 and T350 irons, along with the T250•U and U•505 utility irons – to the Charles Schwab Challenge last week. Twenty players in the field added at least one of the new clubs to their bag, including Bud Cauley, who finished third (T250 3- and 4-irons), and Aldrich Potgieter, who finished T-6 (T250 2-iron; T100 4- and 5-irons). This week at the Memorial Tournament, Ping is bringing the new i240 iron and the iDi driving irons to the PGA Tour for the first time.
We're still about two months away from the British Open at Royal Portrush, so if you thought the surge in demand for high-lofted fairway woods was going to kill off driving irons, think again. Brands are still making clubs for fast-swinging players who want a low-launching option off the tee that still allows them to shape the ball right or left.
The best way to find the ideal clubs to bridge your fairway woods to your iron set is to work with a good custom fitter, but here are a few general concepts to keep in mind:

The flat face of driving irons also makes it easier to hit a draw, fade or knock-down shot, and when fitted with a graphite shaft, modern driving irons produce surprisingly high ball speeds.

USMNT 2-1 Haiti: Yanks finish near-perfect group stage
The United States men's national team got a final tune-up for the Gold Cup knockout rounds when Mauricio Pochettino led the team into Arlington for a match-up with Les Grenadiers of Haiti on Sunday. Save for one mistake at the back, the car looks really good following a 2-1 win over Haiti on goals from Malik Tillman and Patrick Agyemang. The Yanks went 3-0-0 against Haiti, Saudi Arabia, and Trinidad & Tobago, and will face learn their quarterfinal opponent later Sunday. Placide denies Agyemang He may have been offside but Agyemang is 1v1 with the keeper and is pushed wide for a corner by Placide. John Tolkin's hits an adrenal corner kick way over the sea of foreheads in the 18. Louicius Don Deedson goal — USMNT 1-1 Haiti (19th minute) Tim Ream is under pressure by Louicius and plays a back pass to Matt Freese, who passes it right back to Deedson. The Haitian doesn't miss, and that's all on the keeper who was making his third-straight start in a USMNT shirt. Haiti capitalizes on the giveaway and finds the equalizer! 🇭🇹👀 T&T take lead in other Group D game Dante Sealy's scored from distance and T&T go second on the live table with four points, one more than Saudi Arabia. Haiti want a penalty Chris Richards thwarts a Nazon dribble and then shoves the Haiti forward inside the 18 for good measure. Nazon makes a meal of it, but Richards can't be throwing his arms like that. Not a penalty but not ideal. VAR quickly says no. Tyler Adams first-minute yellow card The Bournemouth man slides through the back of Duckens Nazon. He's surprised to go into the book but if he eyes a video he'll get it. USMNT team news analyzed It's excellent to see Tyler Adams back in the XI, and his spot next to Luca de la Torre and in front of Chris Richards and Tim Ream should be enough to see things through for Pochettino. It's also notable that Malik Tillman and Chris Richards look to be beyond debate as starters in this tournament, while Diego Luna and Max Arfsten take their first turns outside the XI. Matt Freese gets another look at goalkeeper in what's turning into a nice audition for a World Cup spot. USMNT vs Haiti preview The Yanks have sealed passage from the group stage with wins over Trinidad and Tobago and Saudi Arabia, and could meet Mexico or Costa Rica in the quarterfinal, and they'll have no way of knowing whether El Tri or Los Ticos are first or second in the Group A prior to kickoff. So a match-up with rivals Mexico could be coming win, lose, or draw against Haiti, as Mexico face Costa Rica later in the evening with El Tri only clear of Los Ticos on one goal worth of differential and Costa Rica ahead on goals by one. Haiti can still reach the knockout rounds with a win over the Yanks plus help from Trinidad and Tobago. The Saudis have three points while the USMNT and T&T each have one. T&T needs a win over the Saudis and a Haiti loss or draw versus the U.S. (or a blowout win over Saudi Arabia that is four goals better than Haiti's win over the USMNT). USMNT team news, focus Haji Wright is dealing with a reported achilles injury of undisclosed severity, though the forward was in attendance at the Saudi Arabia match. Damion Downs also dealt with a late injury after coming off the bench, a contusion that's left him day-to-day according to Fox's Jenny Taft. Tyler Adams and Johnny Cardoso both returned from short injury absences against the Saudis, though whether they'll be fit to start by Sunday is a question mark. Pochettino did not rotate his XI much between the first two games, but he can do what he wants on Sunday which could mean opportunities for John Tolkin, Nathan Harriel, Quinn Sullivan, Paxten Aaronson, and/or Brian White. Haiti team news, focus Les Grenadiers won't have Nantes center back Jean-Kevin Duverne, who was sent off early in their 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago. They will have veteran AEK Athens striker Frantzy Pierrot, who has 32 goals in 40 caps including the lone goal in this tournament. All-time leading scorer Duckens Nazon is also in the squad as is goalkeeper Johny Placide. This is one of the better performing Haiti sides in recent history and it's led by an international management veteran in French manager Sebastien Migne. USMNT vs Haiti prediction This match may end up being trickier than the win over bunkered-in Saudi Arabia, as Haiti need a win. That impetus to attack should hopefully lead to a more appealing spectacle, one that would benefit the USMNT. USMNT 3-1 Haiti.

Jordan Spieth entered this week looking to build off the momentum he had created over his last few tournaments. Instead, he was forced to withdraw from the Travelers Championship on Thursday, after completing just 12 holes. Advertisement Spieth was 5-over and struggling during his opening round of the PGA Tour's final Signature Event of the season. He was seen wincing in pain and even heard groaning after several shots. Following his tee shot on 13, Spieth knew that his day was about to end. Following his decision to withdraw, the three-time major champion detailed the injury. He explained how it progressed from his warm-up through his round. 'It was just like midway through on my irons,' Spieth said. 'Everything was great in my gym session, and I've been very, very excited to go out and play. Things have been getting better and better, and then my right scap just kind of locked — like tightened midway through the warmup, and I just kept hitting, and then all of a sudden it was moving up, everything around it started to — and then it was over the left and then it was like everything, so I stopped. Advertisement 'It was both sides of my neck and upper back… I quit 30 minutes early from my warmup and came back to the table with my physio who was out there on the range… I just wasn't moving very well, and then it just got worse. I was just going to try to see if I could somehow get through at even. This week's Travelers Championship is a limited-field, no cut event where any finish at all will help with Official World Golf Rankings, FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup points. 'It's a weird situation with an elevated event and no cut and important points and stuff. It's like, well, what's the downside if I can finish of just finishing even if it's ugly, and then I hit my tee shot on 13, and it legitimately really hurt. I was walking off that tee, and I'm like, if it's even harder to turn, then I'm not going to be able to make a backswing that's even useful, and that's what happened on the bunker shot. I was like — it's only going to get worse to finish the round, and it's not worth it. I thought that was the time. 'I've never withdrawn from an event ever anywhere at any level, so I didn't really know what to do. It just became too much.'
