The arrival of summer isn't just about soaking up the sun with a drink in hand, or maximising outdoor time to enjoy the warmth - although that's certainly a bonus. For us retail writers and bargain seekers, it signals the return of one of the industry's most eagerly awaited events, Amazon Prime Day, which offers thousands of deals on a vast array of items.
Each year, the retail giant unveils a range of rather impressive discounts that make splurging on a new beauty gadget, vacuum cleaner, coffee machine, pair of trainers, or even mobile phone a bit less taxing on the wallet.
This year, Prime Day is stretching beyond a single day and, for the first time, will last 96 hours. In 2025, the four-day event will run from 00:01 on July 8, wrapping up at 11:59pm on July 11. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here
Echoing some of the popular deals from previous years, the shopping extravaganza will feature discounts on big-name brands such as Bose, De'Longhi, Dyson, Lego, Shark, CeraVe, Ninja, and Sonos.
What's new for 2025?
This year, Amazon is launching a new feature called 'Today's Big Deals', a dedicated page showcasing daily themes curated exclusively for Prime members. This will include limited-time 'New Deal Drop' deals that will be unveiled at midnight each day of the event.
Naturally, only Prime members will have access to these exclusive deals.
The event will also last twice as long this year, spanning four days from July 8 to July 11.
How to join Amazon Prime
Those interested in participating in the event can sign up for a free trial at amazon.co.uk/primeday without any obligation. The free trial lasts for 30 days and includes benefits such as fast and free delivery.
To continue with the service after the trial, it costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year. Young adults aged between 18-22 can enjoy all the same perks at half the price, costing just £4.49 per month or £47.49 a year.
If July 8 seems too far off, Amazon offers impressive deals throughout the year, with discounts on popular brands currently available.
Current Amazon Deals worth checking out
As we brace ourselves for the next heatwave, Amazon has slashed the price of this Bladeless Personal Fan, designed to be worn around the neck, by 33%. Reduced from £35.99 to £23.99, it's available in four different colours and features three speed settings to help you combat varying degrees of heat.
For those seeking a more permanent solution to keep cool during the warmer months, particularly when working remotely, the Dreo 42 Inch Pilot Max Smart Tower Fan, 25dB Quiet Cooling Fan is currently discounted by 20%, now priced at £127.49, down from £159.99.

This oscillating electric fan offers four distinct modes and can be operated via a remote control or the Dreo app. Touted as 'quieter than ever imagined', the fan features optimised air outlets and an ultra-wide 120-degree cooling capacity, enabling the bladeless fan to circulate refreshing coolness throughout the room.
With a stellar 4.7-star rating, customers have expressed their delight, with many stating they are 'super impressed with just how good this fan is'. One individual described the fan as a 'true game-changer in the realm of cooling solutions'.
For those willing to invest a bit more for a multifunctional fan, consider the Shark FlexBreeze Pro Mist Indoor and Outdoor Fan and Outdoor Misting System, now reduced to £219.99 from £249.99. This innovative device not only provides a cooling breeze but also sprays a mist of water, making it an ideal companion during a heatwave.
This anti-hair wrap technology removes hair from the motorised brush-roll as you clean.

Amazon Prime Day often presents excellent deals on mobile phones. However, if you're in urgent need of a bargain, Samsung's Galaxy A16 4G Android Smartphone is currently discounted by 18% for a limited time, now priced at £139, down from £169.
The phone is equipped with multiple cameras (a 50MP Main Camera, a 5MP Ultra Wide Camera for landscapes, a 2MP Macro Camera for close-ups and a 13MP Front Camera for selfies), 128GB storage, a 3-year manufacturer extended warranty and comes in three different colours.
Planning to attend a festival this year? To prevent phones, fans and other electrical devices from running out of juice, investing in a battery power bank is a wise move. This INIU 140W 27000mAh Portable Charger, usually priced at £92.98, is now available for £67.99.
Available in six different colours including red and yellow, the battery pack offers 'super fast' charging and can even accommodate larger devices such as laptops.
If you're in need of a new vacuum cleaner but reluctant to pay full price for some of the top brands Shark's Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap has had £100 slashed off its price on Amazon and is now available for £179.
Featuring anti-hair wrap technology - perfect for pet owners with both long and short-haired pets - and a 40-minute runtime, this vacuum cleaner is designed with a flexology wand to reach into corners and crevices that regular devices can't access.
It also converts into a handheld vacuum for cleaning the car, stairs or sofa.
Highly praised by numerous Amazon customers, one satisfied buyer raved: "I am very impressed with my purchase. Most of my home is carpeted and previous cordless models have been pretty useless. Find this to be very good suction, easy to manoeuvre and fold. I like how it will automatically change to hard floors in kitchen and bathroom without me having to alter switches, not too heavy for me at 76 years old and can carry upstairs easily. It lasted me 45 minutes on a full charge. And a 5 year warranty included. Would highly recommended."
Another reviewer chimed in: "This is a fantastic multi-functional vacuum for your household. What you notice first is the blade type rollers rather than traditional brushes. This is quite innovative and stops long hairs clogging the system. Next the bendy arm which is pretty cool and easily enables you to reach under furniture with little bending, handy for my old knees. And finally, it converts nicely into a handheld device which is great for stairs, nooks and crannies and the car boot etc. Charging is via a simple wired adaptor with no mounting dock.
"I have found this to be a great item with long battery life and excellent "vacuuming" performance over hard and soft floors with no crevice or corner out of bounds. It is fairly easy to empty the good sized bin though storage isn't so elegant as the extra tools need to be stored separately in the bag provided but I would much rather have them than not."
Some customers felt it was a bit 'overpriced' for its features (although, this may not be the case whilst on sale). A three-star review from a user read: "The power is not very strong. It does the job, but once a month I still take me older vacuum cleaner to vacuum properly.
"It can't stand up straight when in use, but has to lean against a wall when moving items to vacuum. Not too impressed, especially if you are used to a stronger machine."
If £179 seems a bit exorbitant, VAX's Pace Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is now priced at £119.99, down from its original price of £179.99, and boasts a similar array of features to Shark's offering, including carpet and hard floor suitability, cordless operation, and a 40-minute runtime.

Amazon's Prime Days often present quite a few appealing deals on beauty and haircare items, encompassing hairdryers, straighteners, curlers, and more. However, if you need a new styler immediately, Amazon has currently discounted the Shark SpeedStyle Hair Dryer (bundled with four unique attachments) by 25%, setting the price at £134.99 instead of £179.99.

Also available at a discount are the ghd Gold Hair Straightener and Styler, now priced at £132.25, a significant reduction from the original £189. This undercuts Lookfantastic's offer of £151.20 and Boots' pricing of £154.99.

Prada CEO Gianfranco D'Attis steps down

Rome – Gianfranco D'Attis, chief executive officer of Italian luxury label Prada, stepped down from his role on June 30, the group confirmed to AFP on Sunday, following a report by specialist media outlet WWD. The role of chief executive officer was assumed on an interim basis by Prada Group chief executive officer, Andrea Guerra. According to the US publication Women's Wear Daily (WWD), "disagreements over strategy" led to D'Attis' departure. This announcement came during Milan Men's Fashion Week, hours after a Prada show. Prada accounted for 68 percent of the group's turnover in the first quarter. However, unlike the younger brand Miu Miu (31 percent of the group's turnover), Prada saw a slight decline in sales in the first quarter (-0.2 percent). The Prada Group, whose sales increased by 12.5 percent year-over-year in the first quarter, announced in early April the acquisition of rival Versace by the US group Capri Holdings for 1.25 billion euros. The merger of the two legendary Italian fashion houses created a group capable of competing with industry giants, such as French groups LVMH and Kering.(AFP) This article was translated to English using an AI tool. How one of Scottish's oldest bookshops Yeadon's thrives in Elgin despite challenges of Amazon

For almost 140 years, Yeadon's of Elgin has been an Aladdin's cave for bookworms in the town centre. It is one of Scotland's oldest continuously trading bookshops after being first opened in 1887 by James Dawson Yeadon. The journey has been far from easy for the independent bookshop. In 2007, independent publisher Birlinn's managing director Hugh Andrew rescued the shop from closure. Despite the challenges posed by online giants like Amazon and big book chains, Yeadon's has stayed true to its roots and remains a beloved Elgin staple on Commerce Street. Jan Robertson has been running the iconic shop for 18 months now. Yeadon's has a special place in Jan's heart, having enjoyed many memories as a child looking through the array of books. The Elgin native has worked in libraries across the world including in Dubai, Houston and Saudi Arabia. After coming home she spotted the job advert in the window and jumped at the chance to work in her beloved shop. She recalls: 'I wanted to work here for my work experience when I was 15, but I didn't get it. I ended up in the library instead, which led to me working in libraries for most of my life. 'I've been overseas for the last 20 years, came back here and saw the job in the window. 'I used to come in every week with my granny and go downstairs to the kids' section, which is somewhere else in the shop now. It feels like a full circle.' The rise of Amazon and other bigger brands has dramatically changed the retail landscape. But for this independent bookshop, the approach is not to compete with giants—it's to offer what they can't. Jan said: 'Yes, competing with Amazon and the supermarkets is the toughest challenge for us as an independent bookshop. 'We're not billionaires, so we don't have the same resources. 'But we stand out by giving personal recommendations and creating a sense of community. She added: 'People can talk to us about books, and we can get any book in within a couple of days if we don't already have it. 'We're not trying to be Waterstones or Amazon, we're something different. 'We know our customers and we care. 'And we're proud of our heritage, being part of Elgin's community for over a century means something.' Despite the popularity of e-books and Kindles, she's optimistic about the future of physical books. She said: 'Kindles have their place, but people still love the feel of a real book. 'They want something on their shelves, something tangible. 'Kindles can't replace the importance of a physical book. 'We just sell physical books and have been since 1887 and must be the oldest shop in Elgin.' The closure of Waterstones and WH Smith in the St Giles Centre has certainly opened up a gap in the market. It has left Yeadon's as the only business in Elgin that has books front and centre in their store. She said: 'Since Waterstones closed, we've definitely seen a slight increase in sales. 'We've been ramping up on social media and reminding people we're still here – one of the oldest independent bookshops in Scotland. 'Also, we have seen more younger customers coming in which has meant more people are asking for fantasy books. 'It is crucial to attract more younger readers as they are the next generation of bookshop users.' She added: 'We're hoping to expand our gift range and have already increased our stationery selection. Since WH Smith closed, we're selling more cards too. 'It's about getting people in for other things and then they browse the books.' The shop has also leaned into events to drive engagement with monthly storytime sessions for children, author visits, and a monthly book club held in collaboration with cocktail bar Dean's Of Elgin. Jan added: 'We are hosting more events to draw more people into the book and for general awareness. 'The storytime events are great as we are getting kids into the shop who will be the future readers. 'We try to keep busy with author visits and we get schools visiting too. 'I enjoy getting the children into the shop as I remembered how much I enjoyed it as a youngster.' She added: 'The book club with Dean's attracts 20 women each month and it has been a success. 'Therefore, we are looking to work with other businesses to do more events.' Looking ahead, the store hopes to keep expanding its offerings and continue hosting community events. What is Elgin reading most at the moment though? Jan replied: 'A bit of everything, but crime is always popular. 'It is a popular genre because of the rise of true crime podcasts and documentaries. 'Scottish fiction and non-fiction also sell well and kids' books do as well.' Yeadon's at 32 Commerce Street is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 4pm.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding planners defend couple's lavish nuptials as Venice locals stage protests

The planners behind Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez 's luxurious Venetian wedding have defended the billionaire couple amid fierce backlash from the Italian city's locals. After a two-year-long engagement, Bezos and Sanchez are set to tie the knot on June 27 - but the ceremony is just one part of their extravagant celebrity-laden celebration. News of the lavish wedding has sparked outrage among Venice's residents, who have been protesting against the Amazon founder's arrival. Passionate signs reading 'No space for Bezos' and 'Veniceland: A playground fit for an oligarch' have been plastered across Venice, sharing the sentiment that citizens want Bezos and Sanchez to take their multimillion-dollar wedding elsewhere. Demonstrators have also been plotting to clog up streets and canals to throw off the wedding's events and hinder the roughly 200 guests from getting around the city. But the couple's wedding organizers, Lanza & Baucina Limited, have spoken out on their high-profile clients' behalf, claiming they have been adamant about respecting Venice throughout the entire planning process. 'From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events,' Lanza & Baucina Limited said in a statement to Page Six. 'Before the recent news of protests arose, we had worked for there to be minimal negative impact or disruption to the lives of Venetians and the city's visitors.' The company added that Bezos and Sanchez have donated funds to various Venice charities in the months leading up to the nuptials. Bezos and Sanchez have also gifted funds on behalf of their guests, Page Six reported. Others have also voiced support for the powerful pair - including one of the wedding's vendors. 'Events like this bring quality tourism to Venice,' Antonio Rosa Salva, the owner of Rosa Salva Venetia bakery, which is making pastries for the wedding, told The Associated Press. 'I don't see how an event with 200 people can create disruptions. It's responsible tourism. 'It's prestigious that a couple like this, who can go anywhere in the world, are getting married in the city.' Mayor Luigi Brugnaro also advocated for Bezos and Sanchez, telling The Associated Press: 'We are very proud. 'I don't know if I will have time, or if he will, to meet and shake hands, but it's an honor that they chose Venice. Venice once again reveals itself to be a global stage.' Demonstrators (pictured) have also been plotting to clog up streets and canals to throw off the wedding's events and hinder the roughly 200 guests from getting around the city Founded by Prince Antonio Licata di Baucina and Count Riccardo Lanza, the high-end wedding planning company has worked with stars including George and Amal Clooney, and Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault. With a celebrity portfolio, the Bezos-Sanchez matrimony - costing roughly $15 to $20 million - is sure to be nothing less than show-stopping. An Italian source previously revealed to they will say 'I do' on the island of San Giorgio, home to the famous Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, a 16th century Benedictine church. Bezos' $500 million superyacht, Koru, is to be docked on the island's harbor. The island itself will not be open to the public. The ceremony is just one of three events - all at different locations. It is believed that on June 26, there will be a gala at a private cloister along the iconic Lid, possibly at Chiostro della Madonna dell'Orto. And on June 28 there will be an extraordinary party at a church, the source claimed. The insider confirmed guests should be arriving in the country over the next few days and will likely leave by June 29. The guest list is thought to have less than 200 people, with suspected guests including A-listers like Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and even members of the Trump family. Musicians including Lady Gaga and Elton John are set to perform. 'Lauren wanted some big talent to sing for them and it just doesn't get any bigger than Gaga and Elton,' a source previously told 'It also helps that Gaga and Elton are good friends and were happy to do it together, which is cool. It will be like a mini vacation for the besties.' Around 60 of Venice's water taxis are reserved for the week, with some of the 400 gondolas on the island out of commission as well, according to the source. However, both city officials and wedding planners have debunked rumors that they had booked half of Venice's water taxis. Officials also denied that guests were blocking out rooms in ritzy hotels, and called any speculation of the wedding disturbing the city 'fake news,' according to a March statement. Yet, city's most expensive hotels are nearly fully booked with names from the star-studded guest list. Rosa Salva Venetia will be making pastries for goody bags for the over-the-top weekend. The menu items at the bakery include tiramisu, flaky, cream-filled pastries and fritelli, a traditional fried treat. The insider said a celebrity wedding planner, who is not a part of this event, has heard that guests will receive 'opulent' gifts just for attending. Roughly 80 percent of the money the couple is dishing out for the festivities is going towards Venetian vendors, according to The Associated Press.
