Waqf amendment act will benefit poor Muslims, says Raghunandan
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP leader Raghunandan Rao stated that the Waqf Amendment Act is aimed at benefiting poor Muslims and accused some individuals of deliberately opposing it for political reasons.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Raghunandan said that the Act would ensure transparency and better utilisation of Waqf properties. He demanded that the Chief Minister disclose all details of Waqf properties in the Old City to the public.
He further mentioned that the BJP would take steps to raise awareness about the Waqf Act among the general public, particularly in Muslim-majority areas, to prevent misinformation and build trust.
Raghunandan emphasised the importance of reforms in the management of Waqf properties to ensure they serve the intended beneficiaries — the underprivileged in the Muslim community.

After an intense and tiring campaign in the hot and sultry weather, candidates from different political parties finally took some time off. While some leaders chose to relax and spend time with their families, others also held some informal interactions with their party workers. For Sanjeev Arora, whose campaign lasted over 3.5 months — as he was announced the candidate in the last week of February—Friday was a much-needed pause. 'I allowed myself a rare indulgence — I slept in and started the day slow. Upon waking up, I requested my team and the Municipal Corporation to begin the process of removing all campaign-related material, including posters, wall wraps, and stickers across the constituency,' he said. He added that he had a light breakfast. 'And more importantly, spent quality time with my family — something I had deeply missed during the campaign. I was finally able to be present with my grandchildren, Aria, Anhad, and Ivaan. Hearing them say, 'Dadu, it's so nice to finally see you — we were only seeing you on posters and hoardings!' was a heartfelt reminder of how much time I had been away,' he said, adding that they had lunch together as a family, and he took them all out to their favourite restaurant. Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who had a heated campaign, had a sore throat on Friday. He said, 'I am meeting all my friends who had helped me throughout the campaign despite all odds. But Friday's meeting was just a thanksgiving gesture. I wanted to have a cup of tea with them and we discussed nothing political.' Earlier in the day, he had also spent time with his workers at his office inside his house in Model Gram. Ashu, along with his wife Mamta Ashu, spent the evening with friends sipping their favourite 'kadak chai'. When asked about the outcome of the poll, he said, 'Will accept the result as it is.' BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta also spent time with his family, even entering his home kitchen to make a cup of tea for himself and his wife. 'We hadn't sat together for even 5 minutes in the past many days. So, we decided to drink tea together after a lazy start to the day.' SAD candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman, however, hit the gym on Friday morning—something he had been missing for the past many days. He said, 'I had been a regular to the gym for the past four years, either early in the morning or late at night… but as I couldn't exercise all these days, I want to get back to my fitness routine yet again. As I am a diabetic, I take care of my health by doing regular exercise apart from focusing on diet.' He said that he had presented his vision before the masses and that now it was over to the voters, with the verdict due on Monday. The bypoll for Ludhiana West Assembly, which was held on Thursday, saw 51.33% polling. Counting will take place on June 23. A post poll scrutiny of Form-17 A and other documents for Ludhiana West by-poll was conducted by General Observer Rajeev Kumar, Returning Officer Rupinder Pal Singh and the representatives of the candidates at Khalsa College For Women. The scrutiny was carried out to check the polling station where any significant event EVM related or otherwise was reported, whether polling took place in the absence of any polling agent, polling stations where the number of electors who cast their vote using documents other than electronic photo identity card ( EPIC) and exceeding 25% of the total votes cast in the polling station, polling stations where more than 10% of electors have been identified as ASD turned up to vote, polling stations where polling percentage is plus 15% or minus 15 % than the average polling percentage of the AC and others.

‘No polluter will be spared': Delhi PWD minister announces crackdown on industrial discharge into Yamuna river
Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Friday ordered a city-wide crackdown on the discharge of illegal sewage and industrial waste into the Yamuna, kickstarting an enforcement campaign to tackle water pollution in the capital. Calling untreated sewage discharge a 'crisis that can no longer be ignored,' Singh directed all departments concerned to begin immediate inspections across Delhi's industrial and commercial establishments. 'No polluter will be spared. We will act — and act fast,' the minister was quoted as saying, in the statement issued by the PWD on Friday. According to the statement, the drive will target all establishments legally mandated to install and operate Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) or Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). 'Comprehensive and time-bound inspections' are to be conducted to ensure these plants are both installed and functioning properly. The statement also noted that any non-compliance would invite strict legal action under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Emphasising a 'zero-tolerance' policy, the PWD said penalties would be enforced 'with no exemptions or delays'. The Water Act allows for fines and imprisonment for discharging pollutants into water bodies without treatment or consent. A real-time e-dashboard will be developed to track inspection status, record violations, and monitor corrective measures. Departments have been directed to submit bi-monthly compliance reports to the minister's office to ensure regular monitoring and accountability. The minister also stressed that 'departmental coordination is key' and called for 'seamless coordination among all enforcement and technical departments' to eliminate delays and ensure timely action. The crackdown comes amid longstanding concerns over the pollution levels in the Yamuna. Despite previous clean-up plans and multiple deadlines, large volumes of untreated waste continue to flow into the river, especially from unregulated industrial clusters and unauthorised colonies, as per government records. 'This is not a symbolic act. It is a matter of survival and legacy. Delhi must rise to this challenge,' Singh said. The enforcement drive begins with immediate effect, said the PWD. High-risk zones and habitual defaulters will be prioritised. Citizens have also been encouraged to report instances of illegal discharge through local helplines or municipal channels.

NIA framing innocent Muslim youths: Coimbatore Jamaath federation
COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Federation of All Jamaaths, Islamic organisations and political parties has condemned the recent arrests of two Muslim youths in connection with the 2022 Coimbatore car blast case, which is currently being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The federation alleged that the NIA has been framing false charges against innocent Muslim youths. In the car blast case, the NIA arrested four suspects, including two from Coimbatore, on Wednesday. These arrests were made in relation to recruitment efforts for the banned terrorist organisation, Islamic State (IS), bringing the total number of arrests in the case across the state to eight. The suspects arrested are believed to have been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, is accused of recruiting youth and subtly promoting Salafi-Jihadi ideology under the guise of teaching Arabic in the state. The arrests followed an investigation into the car explosion that occurred on October 23, 2022, near Sangameswarar Temple at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore city. Jameesha Mubin, who died in the blast, has been identified as an IS sympathiser by the NIA. The federation called for an urgent meeting on Thursday wherein it passed a resolution condemning the NIA for what they claim are false cases against innocent Muslim youths and unjust arrests related to the alleged IS radicalisation case. M S Sabeer Ali, a coordinator of the federation, told TNIE that one of the two people arrested in Coimbatore on Wednesday was innocent and was actually maintaining an Arabic college (Madrasa). 'He was previously investigated by the NIA as a witness and was pressurised to be a witness in favor of the agency. When he refused, he was framed in the case and arrested. The NIA is framing charges against innocent Madrasa students to prevent the bail proceedings of earlier suspects arrested in this case which is condemnable,' he said. The federation in the meeting also decided to provide legal support to those who were allegedly wrongfully arrested and to clarify the truth surrounding these arrests to the public.
