Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland hailed the Scope Awards as proving that the disabled community 'really are capable of so much more than others might think so.'
Chris, 47, a winner on the dancing show last year, scooped the gong for Celebrity Role Model at the awards last night.
The comedian said: 'It really is an honour to get to represent those of us with a disability on some of the biggest shows on the telly, and to get to show everybody else out there that we really are capable of so much more than others might think so.'
The blind comedian from Liverpool is currently on a UK tour and beat other celebrities, including campaigner Sophie Morgan and musician Jordan Stephens, to the award.
Chris lost his sight gradually due to a genetic condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and said last night, 'there really are no limits to what we can do' and joked in his acceptance speech: 'Although I do have somebody else do the driving on this tour, because there have to be some.'

Dave Myers' widow says memorial motorcycle ride has become ‘more than a tribute'

Motorcyclists returned to the TV chef's hometown of Barrow-in-Furness on Saturday, a year on from the first Dave Day, in memory of the 66-year-old who died last year following a battle with cancer. Myers was part of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo the Hairy Bikers with co-presenter Si King, who also attended the event at the weekend. A post shared by The Hairy Bikers (@hairybikers) 'It's magical and amazing. Last year we had the bike ride and then a concert, but this year there's been a lot more. It's been a full weekend of events,' Myers told BBC Breakfast. 'It just started with a bike ride. Started at Ace Cafe in London. We were in the sun. It was scorching hot at some points, water just dripping off all of us.' She added: 'The last stop that we planned, we couldn't do it because it was packed with bikes. 'So there were about 7,000 bikes in Burton-in-Kendal and we had to go past it. We couldn't stop. 'We got into Barrow earlier than we planned anyway, because of missing one stop, and we had about 40,000 bikes again on the roads this year. 'So many messages that I received from drivers on the other side of the motorways saying how amazing that was and how tearful they were to see the convoy. So (it was) really magical, beautiful. 'Then when we arrived there, we had a concert waiting for us. And on Saturday, a bike exhibition, bike stand, the Dave museum… It's so emotional.' She added: 'I'm on a high, very tired because I think I had a couple of hours sleep the whole weekend. But it was so uplifting and so wonderful to see all those people from all over the country coming to pay a tribute. 'And it became a little bit more than just a tribute. It was an occasion for people to manifest. 'Whether they were going through grief, through loss, whether they just needed a friendship, or a friend to talk to. 'I had a book signing, and I spoke with about 300 people that were there, and every one of them had a story about their health or about learning to cook watching Dave and Si on the TV because they've been part of people's living rooms for more than 20 years. And it's just amazing to see the legacy that they have.' Dave Day 2025 raised money for NSPCC Childline and CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria, an independent charity providing therapy and support to people affected by cancer. Last year the memorial ride raised £127,460.60, according to the Dave Day website. King and Myers were friends for more than three decades and fronted a series of cooking and travel programmes on the BBC from 2004. Myers' death came while the pair's last series, The Hairy Bikers Go West, was being aired – seeing them travel along the west of the UK from Scotland down to Devon. Outside of their travelogue series, Myers competed on Strictly Come Dancing and the duo published more than 25 cookery books.

Curtis Pritchard gets VERY close to EastEnders star he met when he was dating Ekin-Su as they leave show arm in arm

NEWLY single Curtis Pritchard has been spotted getting very close to an EastEnders star, as they left a show arm in arm. Curtis, 29, was pictured looking cosy with Jazzy Phoenix, 23, who rose to fame for playing Nadine Keller on the BBC soap opera, EastEnders. 10 10 The pair are believed to have met when Curtis was dating Ekin-Su, as they were both on the same tour, named Come What May. In August last year, it was revealed that Jazzy had bagged herself a huge new role away from Walford, with the big new theatre role in Come What May. And Curtis also starred in the show alongside his Strictly star brother AJ. The tour ran from September 20th to October 24th 2024, meaning he and Jazzy knew each other before his Love Island All Stars stint, in January of this year. Curtis and Ekin-Su got together on All Stars this year, but recently split, with the pair announcing their break up via social media statements. Now, shortly after his and Ekin's split, dancer Curtis has been spotted linking arms with stunning actress Jazzy, while attending the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. The pair went to watch Strictly star Kai Widdrington's Evolution tour. Curtis was spotted looking casual in a white t-shirt and jeans as he exited the theatre with Jazzy by his side. She was seen showing the Love Islander something on her phone, as well as stroking the back of his head and linking arms with him. Ekin-Su and Curtis Pritchard SPLIT three months after Love Island All Stars Jazzy looked stunning in a grey jacket and tartan trousers, with her blonde hair down. She sported a glam makeup look and red lipstick for their theatre trip, and the pair looked in great spirits on the hot summer's day, laughing and smiling in each other's company. The Sun has contacted both Jazzy and Curtis' reps for comment. The actress, who was previously linked to another of her co-stars Bobby Brazier, was rumoured to be dating Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie Borthwick last year. Jamie continued to fuel speculation that the pair were an item after seemingly remaining close months after Jazzy left the BBC soap opera. 10 10 They were often snapped together on social media and this week was no different. The duo posed for a selfie, with the blonde actress captioning it: "The weekly gossip = complete." The stars then filmed a carpool karaoke as they sang a version of Nobody Knows Me Like You Do, from Disney film High School Musical, before finishing with a rendition of Start of Something New. Jamie, 30, and Jazzy previously sparked rumours they were dating back in December 2023. Jazzy shared a photo of her resting her head on Jamie's shoulder. The picture got fans talking, with some convinced that this is more than just an on-screen romance. One wrote: "They would make a great couple," while another posted: "Are they an item?" 10 10

Strictly judge Anton du Beke tells wife to 'grow up' over 'extraordinary' issue

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Anton Du Beke has candidly shared that he once told his wife to "grow up" after she confessed her difficulty with a task many find simple. Chatting on the My Time Capsule podcast, the 58-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge disclosed one of his biggest gripes, which centres around how people use their mobile phones. The ballroom dancing star is not at all impressed by folks who use their phone's loudspeaker in public places. He quipped that "everyone's got an earphone" and humorously noted that it's possible to "actually hold these things up to your ear". This led to a broader discussion about contemporary mobile phone habits. Anton observed that nowadays, people no longer "like to pick the phone up", something his own wife, Hannah Summers, also tends to avoid. Anton recounted: "Young people will be going, 'Phone calls? What's he talking about? We just text and email and WhatsApp. We never actually answer the phone. Are you mad?'" (Image: Anadolu Agency via Getty Images) He went on to say: "That's the new thing as well. People don't like to pick the phone up. I find that extraordinary. My wife is the same, though, really. She goes, 'Oh, I don't really like speaking on the phone'. "I just go, 'Grow up, I said. Grow up. Sort yourself out. What are you talking about?'I don't like talking on the phone'." Anton and Hannah, who tied the knot in 2017, first crossed paths at a golf club back in 2011. The couple resides in Buckinghamshire with their twins, George and Henrietta. In a bit of telly gossip, Anton, a stalwart of the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' since its 2004 debut, offered a glimpse into his family life, revealing that his children "burst into tears" upon seeing him on TV for the first time. He kicked off his Strictly journey as a professional dancer and once ranked 14th globally in ballroom dancing with his partner Erin Boag. In a twist of fate, 2021 saw him hang up his dancing shoes to take up the mantle of judge, stepping in for 'Britain's Got Talent' sensation Bruno Tonioli. (Image: Getty Images for Paramount Pictu) During a chat on BBC Radio 2, he shared: "It's huge. It is wonderful. The first time my children, when they were very little, they saw me dancing on television and I was in the living room, and they saw me dancing on television and they burst into tears." Anton said they "couldn't quite grasp the concept" of him being at home and on the television, as well as "this other woman in Daddy's arms", adding that the show is a "massive part of the family". On another note, Anton once confessed to making a rather "terrible" initial impression on his now-wife. Recounting the tale on the 'White Wine Question Time' podcast, host Kate Thornton quizzed him about his early attempts to woo Hannah. Kate recounted: "Apparently the first thing she said to you was weirdo. Because you were hanging around outside a toilet at a golf club event to try and catch her eye, she thought you were odd." He responded that she did something "that you girls tend to do", saying that she "didn't look at me but looked at me". Anton went on to say she "did that thing with the hair around the ears".
