Hello everyone, I'm Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk.
The Springfield Cardinals continue their mastery of the Tulsa Drillers.
In our Cardinals Nation update.
Springfield shutout Tulsa 3-0 Wednesday, Leonardo Bernal provided the offense with a two run homer.
And lefty Brycen Mautz shut down the Tulsa offense.
The 23-year old from San Diego, California finally got his first Double AA victory.
Mautz's win comes in his tenth start for Springfield.
In the game, Mautz struck out nine Drillers in six innings of work.
He gave up two hits and no runs, his earned run average is 3.18.
The win was long in coming for the southpaw.
Mautz went on the injured list in late May, but is back and healthy.
And that showed Wednesday night against Tulsa.
Springfield has four more games left in this series against Tulsa.
And the Cards are 7-1 against the Drillers this season.
For more sports watch Ozarks First news at nine and ten.
And I'll see you then.

Cardinals No. 3 Prospect Dazzles in Double-A Return

Cardinals No. 3 Prospect Dazzles in Double-A Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports. St. Louis Cardinals No. 3 prospect Tink Hence made his first start with Double-A Springfield on Friday night after being activated from the 60-day injured list earlier in the week. Advertisement The 22-year-old held the Houston Astros' Double-A affiliated Corpus Christi Hooks hitless, allowing just one baserunner on a walk while striking out eight batters in 4 1/3 innings of work. Hence was limited to just 66 pitches in his first start since being activated, but he was efficient on the mound. Notably, the once-flame thrower's velocity was rather slow compared to what he was hitting on the radar gun last season. He only reached 96 miles per hour twice with his four-seamer sitting in the low 90's for the majority of the start - a large contrast from last year when he was consistently pitching in the high 90's while occasionally touching 100-plus. St. Louis Cardinals No. 3 prospect Tink Storry-Imagn Images The drop in pitch speed could potentially be due to a new mechanical approach that Hence is taking on the bump. Advertisement "I was kind of getting a little stiff on the mound (before the injury), so (I've) just been working on getting more athletic again," Hence told reporters on Thursday. The work seems to have blossomed into a new stance - and possibly a higher arm slot - on the mound, one in which the righty is more upright and less bent over while throwing pitches. "It was a really good reset for me to really learn (about) myself as a pitcher," Hence said of the lengthy IL stint. "I think it's paying off." The belief around the Springfield organization is that Hence will make just a few more "prove it" starts before being promoted back to Triple-A Memphis, where he was slated to start the year prior to his injury. Former Texas A&M Aggie Running Back Deneric Prince Is Trying To Find His Home Base in the NFL and Could End Up With New England Patriots

Former Texas A&M Aggie Running Back Deneric Prince Is Trying To Find His Home Base in the NFL and Could End Up With New England Patriots originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots are looking at a former Texas A&M running back - one who has been chipping away at getting on an active roster since starting his NFL career. Advertisement But the former Aggie was used to bouncing around before hitting the pros. Deneric Prince with the Kansas City Medley-USA TODAY Sports Deneric Prince was a 3-star commit from Manvel, Texas who originally committed to Texas A&M under then-head coach Jimbo Fisher. He received offers from Alcorn State, Southern University, Abilene Christian, North Texas, Louisville, UCLA, Pursue, SMU, Colorado State, Kansas, Arkansas, and Arizona. His single season with the Aggies ended with one game and two carries for 21 yards. Prince's final three years of NCAA football were spent at Tulsa where he played in 27 games, had 1,723 rushing yards, 314 carries, 14 rushing touchdowns, 17 catches, 162 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. Advertisement Starting his professional career with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft. But after impressing the Chiefs in minicamp that year, though, he only saw the field for 15 snaps on special teams over two games. Prince is credited as a Super Bowl champion for the win over the San Francisco 49ers in Feb. 2024. Before the 2024-25 season started, he signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad in hopes of getting called up, according to Texas A&M Aggies On SI. Unlike another former Aggie running back De'Von Achane, though, Prince had a ways to go before making the active roster. With the UFL's Memphis Showboats, he's totaled 337 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 110 receiving yards, and 219 kick return yards. Now the Patriots are hinting at some interest in the running back and invited Prince to a workout. The future of his NFL career, while still uncertain, may be turning around in his favor.
