49ers' John Lynch provides clear expectations for younger SF team
The post 49ers' John Lynch provides clear expectations for younger SF team appeared first on ClutchPoints.
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch made it clear that the upcoming NFL season is a pivotal one for the team, with an offseason emphasis on youth development and long-term championship goals. Coming off a disastrous 6–11 finish that saw the Niners finish last in the NFC West, the team is reshaping its identity around a younger, faster, and more resilient core.

In a recent piece by NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Lynch outlined his expectations for the 49ers' roster, emphasizing a balance of opportunity and patience.
'We'll be a younger team,' Lynch said. 'It's a young man's game. But you're probably going to take some lumps and it's going to take some time.'
Lynch's comments are especially relevant as the San Francisco youth movement accelerates. The 49ers intentionally moved on from veterans like Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw, and Charvarius Ward in the offseason, reshaping the roster with promising rookies. Among them are Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins, and linebacker Nick Martin, all expected to contribute immediately.
Despite the turnover, Lynch remains confident in the team's core vision.

'You're going to have to make some mistakes. That's no excuse. It's just a reality. I think we will have some young players playing, provided they earn those opportunities.'
Lynch's message comes amid lofty 49ers Super Bowl aspirations. He maintains that championships are the only acceptable standard—a stance reinforced by two heartbreaking Super Bowl losses to the Chiefs in recent years. The team is relying on elite players like Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa to help guide this transitional phase.
Coaching continuity is also a key component of the 49ers' 2025 strategy, highlighted by the return of defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. After serving in the same role from 2017 to 2020 before and spending three years as head coach 0f the New York Jets, Saleh is back in the Bay. His experience and leadership will be vital in accelerating the development of the 49ers' promising rookie class.
Lynch's expectations for the 49ers are grounded in realism but driven by ambition. He acknowledges the likelihood of growing pains and early chemistry issues but remains confident that the team's blend of youth and veteran leadership can evolve into a legitimate title contender.

With what's projected to be the NFL's easiest strength of schedule and no opponents coming off a bye week, the 49ers are well-positioned to capitalize on a fresh start in 2025.
Whether this young core can rise quickly enough to meet San Francisco's championship standard remains the defining challenge—and the ultimate test of the 49ers' bold new direction.

Terence Crawford makes bold claim ahead of Canelo Alvarez fight
Terence Crawford has warned Canelo Alvarez that he plans to be the first man to knock him out when they meet in their blockbuster fight later this year. The pound-for-pound greats will fight on 13 September in Las Vegas for Alvarez's undisputed super-middleweight world title. Advertisement Some are billing the bout as the "fight of the century" with the undefeated, four-division world champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) stepping up from light-middleweight to take on the Mexican great. There are questions about whether his power will travel up the divisions and Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) has never yet been knocked out in a professional career spanning 20 years. Jose Cotto rocked him with a first-round left hook early in his career back in 2010, while he has survived notorious power punchers such as Gennadiy Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol, although he did lose a decision to the latter. Yet Crawford is adamant he can end the 34-year-old's streak. 'Anybody can be knocked out,' Crawford said during a press conference to promote the fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 'Canelo's got a granite chin, he's tough, he's durable. But we've seen him hurt a couple of times and given the right circumstances, anybody can get knocked out.' Advertisement There are some in the boxing world who believe Canelo has been given the rub of the green by judges when previously competing in Vegas but the unbeaten American isn't worried about that. 'I can't focus on the judges,' added Crawford. 'I just gotta focus on doing what I can do and controlling what I can control inside the ring. And that's going out there and winning the fight decisively.' Canelo Alvarez will put his undisputed super-middleweight title on the line (Getty Images) Crawford is considered by many, including The Independent, to be the No 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world but the 37-year-old believes this super-fight in Vegas will be the pinnacle of his career. 'I called Canelo out, he is the last great fighter amongst the era that surpassed us,' explained Crawford 'The Floyd [Mayweather], the [Manny] Pacquiao, the [Oscar] De La Hoya. We both came up in that era and he got the chance to fight them. Advertisement "I wasn't able to get those mega fights, this is my mega fight. This is my moment. 'Over the last 20 years [in terms of biggest fights], I can definitely say it's up there. 'Me and Canelo are definitely making this event as massive as possible, given the body of work that he's put in the sport and the body of work that I've put in the sport. "The accomplishments that he has, the accomplishments that I have in the sport. When you look at it, we did this together with the work that he did and the work that I did. "Everything is up for grabs. Three-time undisputed, three different weight classes, going up two weight divisions. An undefeated fighter in the 168 division in Canelo Alvarez. Another all-time great, Hall of Famer in Canelo Alvarez. Everything is on the line in this fight.' Alvarez and Crawford will fight for the gold in a hugely anticipated bout (REUTERS) For his part, Canelo was equally confident of coming out on top – making a point of acknowledging his opponent's impressive record without being overawed by it. Advertisement 'He's a great fighter but he's not Canelo. I have the experience," Canelo said. "They only focus on my power but I have more than that. This fight is going to be one of my best fights on my record. 'He's not going to beat me, don't worry about it.' That drew a laugh and a smile from Crawford, who replied: 'For sure them belts are coming home with me.'

Commanders Reveal Injury Update on ‘Dog-Ass Competitor Noah Brown
Commanders Reveal Injury Update on 'Dog-Ass Competitor Noah Brown originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders at one time were thought to have suffered a major blow to their receiving corps after a key piece in the rotation went down during minicamp. Advertisement Multiple outlets reported out of the team's recent practice that Noah Brown went down with an injury and had to be carted off the field. There have been no official updates on the nature of the injury at this time. But … John Keim from ESPN has revealed that he is of the understanding that Brown's injury isn't of a serious nature. This injury came on the heels of Terry McLaurin's holdout from team activities becoming official as he seeks out a contract extension. McLaurin did not report to mandatory minicamp. Brown - labeled by coach Dan Quinn a 'dog-ass competitor' - caught 35 passes for 453 yards last season, the most notable of which came in the Commanders' stunning Hail Mary victory over the Chicago Bears. He spent five of his previous six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Houston Texans in 2023. Advertisement Washington has pieced together notable wide receiver depth through the offseason. The team drafted Jaylin Lane in the fourth round after adding Deebo Samuel through trade in March and signing veterans Michael Gallup and K.J. Osborn. However, Brown's loss would've been a considerable blow if the injury turned out to be a serious matter. The Commanders have centered their offseason on building a formidable offensive unit around Jayden Daniels. Brown's rapport with the young quarterback was a major plus as a returning piece. … and soon enough apparently will be again. Coveted Playmaker Delivers Unclear Message on Georgia Ahead of SEC Visit
Coveted Playmaker Delivers Unclear Message on Georgia Ahead of SEC Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the favorite for one in-state highly touted receiver. But the recruitment is far from finished even with his commitment day less than a week away. Advertisement Four-star wide receiver Craig Dandridge indicated in a conversation with On3's Jeremy Johnson this week that he is truly undecided and keeping an open mind with every official visit. Dandridge will visit the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend. The receiver stressed he has liked the recruiting process. 'I mean, a lot of people wanna say like, they're like really pressured with all the thoughts, but, I'm just enjoying it all, man,' Dandridge said. 'I really took the time to like, just think like, I'm blessed to be in this situation at all. Being able to pick from these top schools, I can't go wrong.' Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images While that's a great attitude to have, it's not necessary what the Bulldogs want to hear. Advertisement That's especially true of Dandridge's conclusion that he "can't go wrong" with his recruitment decision. The Bulldogs would prefer the Milton (Ga) Cambridge wideout feel that any choice but Georgia is the wrong one. Dandridge has a few more days to decide. The receiver will announce his commitment decision on June 26. Oklahoma will be the last school Dandridge visits before that commitment day. In addition to Georgia and Oklahoma, the receiver is also considering the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Tennessee Volunteers and Stanford Cardinal according to Johnson. The 247Sports Composite rankings rated Dandridge the No. 38 receiver and 26th Georgia prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. Advertisement Additionally, Dandridge is the No. 237 overall recruit in 2026. On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine projected Georgia as having a 35.6% chance of receiving a commitment from Dandridge.
