The 77th Edinburgh Taxi Outing sets off

The 77th Edinburgh Taxi Outing sets off

The 77th Edinburgh Taxi Outing is taking place on Tuesday.
The outing is organised and paid for by the taxi drivers themselves and offers a fun day out for children with additional needs, life-limiting conditions and terminal illnesses.
The taxis are all decorated with balloons or as floats and assembled this morning at the car park at Edinburgh Zoo for judging and presentation of prizes.
The procession of cabs then left the car park under Police escort to make its way through the city and along the coast to Archerfield Walled Garden (between Gullane and Dirleton, East Lothian) with a stop outside Luca's in Musselburgh to refill the water tanks and to eat as much ice cream as possible.
Our galleries of photos from the Zoo car park and on Princes Street show just a few of the day's fun moments.

Dad makes baby 'apologise' to plane passengers 'for what she put them through'

After landing in Atlanta from London, dad Joseph was filmed cradling his baby daughter Ava who started smiling at all passengers disembarking - and her mum filmed the adorable moment A dad made his five-month-old baby"apologise" to plane passengers "for what she put them through" on a long-haul flight. Adorable footage shared on social media shows dad Joseph cradling baby Ava after leaving the aircraft when they landed in Atlanta, Georgia, from London, England. The little girl can be seen smiling as other passengers disembark and looks at them as they walk past with their luggage. ‌ The clip, shared by Ava's mum Hannah Chestnut, went viral on Instagram. On top of the video, the mum wrote: "We told her she had to apologise for everyone face-to-face for what she put them through on that flight." ‌ READ MORE: Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, TUI and BA rules for bringing babies on flights But Hannah, who is originally from the UK, said Ava "actually did surprisingly well on the flight." The proud mum also has another daughter - Ava's twin - and said that she and Joseph have decided to travel with their babies instead of being "deterred" by their age. Talking to Newsweek, Hannah said her daughters had not been "too fussy" on the plane, but since Ava "kept kept smiling at all the other passengers as they got off the plane" while the family waited for their pram, she decided to film it as if the girl was apologising to everyone who passed by. The mum said: "Ironically, on the flight right after the one we got off of in the video, Ava was super loud and upset, so that was the flight we actually should've filmed the video after!" After she posted the video on her Instagram account The Mum Crew, where she has more than one million followers, Hannah received many encouraging comments from other people. "I'll never apologise for a baby being a baby," one wrote. Another joked: "She looked at everyone like 'and I'll do it again, watch this.'" Someone else said: "With that cute face... No apologies needed." One more added: "I'll never be mad at a baby for crying. A kid that should know better is one thing, but an actual baby is gonna cry." But others were less impressed as one person commented: "Saying this as a new mum of a 4-month-old… NOBODY cares about your baby. Let them board the plane without you bothering them for social media attention." A viewer said: "What is it with parents thinking everyone wants to look at their baby." Responding to the reactions she received online, Hannah said: "It's been so fun to see the video go viral." She added: "We never expected such a silly moment to reach so many people so quickly."

Crosshouse Hospital hosts patch party to raise awareness of 'lazy eye' condition

Young patients got the chance to meet others with eye patches and play games. The Orthoptics team at University Hospital Crosshouse held the first ever Patch Party to highlight World Orthoptic Day on June 2. The team invited some of their young patients so they could meet other children with eye patches, play games, and do some arts and crafts, such as designing their own patches and glasses case. ‌ It was also an opportunity to create awareness of the condition Amblyopia, commonly known as 'lazy eye', and inform parents about the importance of patch wearing. ‌ Orthoptists are trained to offer a range of treatments in the management of visual development and eye muscle misalignment. This may include eye patches, eye exercises, prisms or glasses. Laura Lindsay, Senior Orthoptist for NHS Ayrshire & Arran said: "The party was a great success, it was lovey to see the children getting involved in the activities and realising that they are not the only ones going through the treatment. "It also provided a great opportunity for parents to provide each other with support and share hints and tips on making sure their child wears the patch. "I would like to extend my thanks to Crosshouse Childrens Fund for providing funding for arts and crafts supplies, snacks, and teddy bears, complete with their very own patches, for young patients to take home. ‌ "And thanks also to the Kilmarnock Odeon who have provided each of the families with tickets to see The Disney/Pixar film Elio, in which the main character wears an eye patch." To coincide with the opening of the film Elio, NHS Ayrshire & Arran's orthoptic team have an information stand about the Amblyopia and raise awareness for the see4school visual screening programme, at the Odeon cinema in Kilmarnock from Friday, June 20 until Sunday, June 22. ‌ Laura added: "Children undergoing patching treatment can feel alone, isolated and have reduced confidence. Hopefully the film will give children with eye conditions the ability to feel confident in themselves. "With the party being such a success we would love to host one annually."
