Actor Madhoo on Deepika's exit from Spirit: Would've stayed if she really wanted it
Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit', where she was to star alongside Prabhas, has sparked debates across the industry. Many celebrities have come forward in support of the actor, and the latest to do so is 'Phool Aur Kaante' star Madhoo Shah.In a conversation with News18 Showsha, the actor said it was Deepika's personal choice and not something to argue about. 'It is not about having conflicts and constantly fighting. Everything in life is negotiation, and one must know their worth," she said.advertisementShe further added, 'Deepika is a new mother; she needs time, and she asked for it. The person on the other side didn't accept, so it didn't work out. If Deepika wanted the movie so badly and was willing to make other arrangements, she would have accepted it, but she did not, and that's her personal choice. So, I don't see a big reason for debate."
When asked whether other filmmakers would accommodate Deepika's eight-hour work shift request, Madhoo said, "I ask for something, you don't want to give it, and then you let me go. And that's it. That's the way I see this situation. If she wants an eight-hour workday, there are others who would be willing to take her on that call. And that deal will materialise. This deal didn't materialise. We negotiate every day on a project. Some people pay, some don't. And when you want it very badly, you compromise. When you don't, you say, 'Sorry, I'm not doing it.' It's a personal choice. It's a negotiation."advertisementFollowing the birth of her first child, Deepika reportedly exited Vanga's 'Spirit'. According to reports, she had requested an eight-hour workday, share in the film's profit, and an exemption from Telugu dialogues. These requests were declined by the director, which sparked widespread industry discussion.Madhoo also expressed her appreciation for women in the industry who are challenging norms, emphasising that their actions are paving the way for future generations. She is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming Telugu film 'Kannappa', directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh of 'Home Sweet Home' and 'Teacher'. The film features an ensemble cast including Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar.

Kuberaa Box Office Collection Day 1: Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa hit theatres on Friday and marked one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and co-starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, the film opened to largely positive reviews. Despite that, the film's box office opening has been modest compared to expectations. As per early estimates by Kuberaa collected Rs 12.98 crore on day one, falling short of Dhanush's previous theatrical release Raayan, which had an opening day collection of Rs 15.7 crore. The Telugu version of Kuberaa recorded an overall occupancy of 50.19% on Friday, with morning shows at 38.94%, afternoon shows at 54.58%, and evening shows peaking at 57.04%. Despite the slightly underwhelming opening, the film is expected to gain momentum over the weekend owing to strong word of mouth. In the Hindi belt, however, it faces competition from Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations, Kuberaa showcases Dhanush in the role of a beggar, a performance that has earned him critical praise for its depth and transformation. On Friday, Dhanush was spotted attending the first day, first show of the film with his son Linga at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. The actor was visibly emotional as fans cheered loudly, scaled theatre walls, and tried to catch a glimpse of him. Videos of him acknowledging the crowd with folded hands and emotional expressions have gone viral. His security team had to intervene to manage the crowd and ensure his safe exit. Interestingly, Kuberaa was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA certificate, but only after 19 scenes were trimmed. The total duration was reduced by 13 minutes and 41 seconds from the original cut. As Kuberaa heads into the weekend, all eyes are on its Saturday and Sunday performance to determine whether it can maintain its hold and close the gap with Dhanush's previous box office records. Kussh Sinha On Being Overshadowed By Dad Shatrughan's Stardom: 'Part Of My Life'
Kussh Sinha, son of Shatrughan Sinha, emphasises his independent journey as a director. Inspired but not defined by his father's legacy. Kussh Sinha may be the son of legendary actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, but he's clear about one thing – his journey is his own. In an interview with News18 Showsha, Kussh spoke about why he chose to be a director, the advice his father gave him, and whether he ever felt overshadowed. 'His achievements inspire me—they don't define me," he shared, saying that while he respects his father's legacy, he's carving a path that's entirely his. 'My decision to become a director was mine alone. My father is a phenomenal actor and politician, but filmmaking attracted me because I wanted to be part of the entire creative process. I studied film, worked with directors, wrote scripts, and even attended acting workshops. It's something I've worked hard towards independently," Kussh shared. However, how did his superstar father guide him to become a director? Asked about the same, Kussh added, 'He often speaks about the importance of patience. In a world where everything's rushed, he reminded me that some things take time. Another lesson he gave me: 'Either be better than the best or different from the rest.' I try to hold onto that." Kussh Sinha also talked about being overshadowed by his father's stardom and explained, 'It's a part of my life, and I respect it deeply. But my journey is my own. His achievements inspire me—they don't define me. Every person has their own path, and I'm walking mine." In the same interview, when we asked Kussh about his directorial debut, he replied, 'When you're starting off, you want to do something unique, something that stands out. I came across the script of Nikita Roy and although we reworked it quite a bit from the original version, I found the core character—this female amateur investigator—very compelling. She finds herself in a world and situation that challenge her entire belief system. The journey she takes, along with the people who join her, was fascinating to me. I felt audiences would find it intriguing too, so we tried to put it together in a contemporary and engaging way. That's why I decided Nikita Roy would be the right film to begin with." Kussh is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film, Nikita Roy, that stars his sister, Sonakshi Sinha, in the titular role. It also stars Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Suhail Nayyar. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on June 27, 2025. First Published:
